  1. What about being jail broken with a comm center patch? How do these people make their own custom carrier bundles? There has to be a way.

Hm. Maybe we should compare one of those custom carrier bundles to the official one and see what the changes are. I'll hopefully be able to do that tomorrow.

  2. Update - removed the app via cydia. Rebooted. Went back to cydia and reinstalled the package. Rebooted.

When iOS came back up, I saw a pretty new orange CellularInfo icon. :) Works fine now!

I was just looking into what could have happened. No idea where that white screen came from- sounds like a very old version of the app. Anyway, glad to hear it's working now!

  3. That's ridiculous that they think it's the network. I mean, it could be since other phones seem to have an issue with band switching sometimes, just not as bad as the iPhone. It's definitely something within 20.1. Don't we have someone smart enough on these forums that knows how to break one down, and re-write a carrier bundle? I'm sure we do.

Carrier bundles have been signed since iOS 3.1. Any changes would break the signature and iOS wouldn't accept it.

  4. USCC roaming... Oh my God I am so excited right now. I am leaving for a week of camping at a lake in central Oregon this weekend and USCC works better there than Verizon and almost as good as AT&T. I just bought a used Nexus 5 so I could throw a Straight Talk AT&T sim card in it and use it as a hot spot at the lake. Now I don't need it. Thank you Sprint and USCC!

Same here- I bought a used Nexus 5 recently and was planning on using it on AT&T as a hotspot during my week-long trip to a pretty small town in Kentucky. I re-checked the coverage map earlier today and to my surprise- 3G coverage! Even USCC doesn't have native service in this area.. possibly Appalachian Wireless? I guess I'll find out next week.

  5. I might have just figured out a way to downgrade carrier bundles.

    1.) download this file: http://nahum365.github.io/Sprint_CSIM_LTE_US_iPhone.ipcc

2.) enable carrier testing in iTunes

    On Windows:
Open iTunes via Command Prompt with this command-

    %ProgramFiles%\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

    On OS X:
Quit iTunes then run this command in Terminal-

defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool YES

3.) Plug your device in and while holding shift (Windows) or option (Mac) press Check for Update or Restore. When the dialog comes up, choose IPCC you just downloaded. You should then be on 19.1.

  6. Some good news. planetbeing never replied, but I've gotten CellularInfo to work on my own on jailbroken 8.4 with some fake code signing and entitlement magic. The app is working perfectly. I can't say the same for the widget though. iOS (even jailbroken) doesn't seem to accept the unsigned widget executable. I tried signing it with my developer certificate but I can't include the necessary app entitlement while legitimately signing the app. I'll look into it more, but for now I'll try to get it on a repo in the next week or so.

  7. Maybe for the 4th of July fireworks this weekend.

Good call by Sprint. Last year there was essentially no service in and around Brooklyn bridge Park during the fireworks. Even afterwards when I was trying to pull up a subway map to find another station & avoid the crowds, still couldn't do anything. Does anyone know if this COW has B41? Because I'm sure b25 & b26 won't cut it.

  8. My developer account expired today and I'm still on iOS 9. I'm so scared my phones gonna bug out.

You'll be fine until the beta expires, and that's quite a while from now. The betas only check the device's developer status when you first update and activate (and apparently in the iOS 9 beta it doesn't even do that).

  9. I noticed whenever I have my phone connected via bluetooth in my car, the dash shows the "signal bars" from my phone. Is it worth a shot checking the Core Bluetooth Framework to see if you could pull any signal strength data from there for your app?

I can get the number of bars from the public part of CoreTelephony, not the actual dbm signal strength.

  10. Check this out: http://9to5mac.com/2015/06/10/xcode-7-allows-anyone-to-download-build-and-sideload-ios-apps-for-free/#KzseKhTGaQ8RCMDO.16

Under iOS 9, anyone can sideload any iOS app using XCode 7. I wonder if this would allow us to get around any of the restrictions that CellularInfo has?

Tried it out already. The only way to get around the restrictions is by running the app as root, which is only possible with a jailbreak. Hopefully there'll be a jailbreak released with 8.4 on the 30th.
