  1. But they also blocked its use via an OTA. You have to not accept the OTA and manually force the device to use LTE. And then you have to manually force it again every time you reboot. And you cannot use voice while your using it. So it's there in a limited way for some few die hard wireless enthusiasts. But most Nexus 4 owners never get to use LTE. All because it wasnt recertified to run LTE.

Which begs the question, Why didn't they just try to get recertification? Is the process difficult or expensive in anyway. Or was it a technical thing that wasn't worth tweaking the software to get it to work better. Seemed a little strange to neuter it. Didn't seem like the Google way.

  2. I wouldn't say that. There are still too many single band LTE 1900 phones out there so at least for the next 8 months or so it will still be congested. Unless there is a huge flux of Wimax customers who have upgrades and flock to the LG G2, Nexus 5 and perhaps HTC One Max (assuming its triband) I wouldn't expect to see any difference in overall network balance of LTE 1900. For a lot of Sprint customers that are not S4GRU members they will buy the Note 3 without knowing its not triband.

I'm just trying to look at the bright side here. Would've been huge for a triband gn3. For consumers and for the network. But oh well. I'm even glad the iPhone is at least dual band. Every little bit helps. Even if it means just one less phone streaming video on my sector, I'll take it. Every week should get better for the 1900ers. And who knows maybe by Christmas when all the new iPhones and Tribands are under the tree, all the 1900ers can enjoy streaming xmas logs with no issues. Including the gn3 adopters. Maybe. Doesn't solve indoor and fringe issues, but hey its something. No worse then the gn2 that people already love.

  3. It can be the best damn RF performer in the world but you will stuck using that one lane highway for the 2 years you have it and that nice 10 lane interstate is staring at you and you can't use it. No thanks. Then to further rub it in you can't use the 800LTE either.

Well at least interstate 1900 won't be as congested. All the cool kids with their fancy new toys will be on interstate 2600 and 800, they'll spend less and less time on i1900. So even though it's a one lane highway hopefully it'll move a little faster once more and more ppl use the other 2 freeways. :)

  4. Salt and straw, go take a waking tour of downtown. We stayed at the red lion quay in Vancouver, had marginal lte. Was more like a motel but it was close to pdx airport and the city and ikea. Near my friend's parent's deli in progress I was hitting 15mbit lte

Wow I just looked at a food tour and it was 75 bucks a person. Pricey for not a full meal.

  5. What part of town are you going to be in, downtown area or the 'burbs?

I don't have LTE at my place in SW Beaverton yet, but I get it most everywhere else I frequent. I do get LTE for the majority of my drive to work in SE Portland (on the East side of the Willamette River), which is great. Downtown is fairly well covered, but the signal isn't consistently strong yet.

Definitely give Sensorly a good look when you book your room! :tu:

Probably downtown. I'll for sure check Sensorly. Just wondering if you guys had any good experience with pdx hotels. Besides pine state biscuits and voodoo anything else I must have? Haven't started researching yet. I might as well start here since I already spend too much time on this site. :D

  6. I highly doubt it. I am not sure what the "ev" in "evleaks" is supposed to mean, but the name is obviously a copycat of WikiLeaks.

But these device leaks are not the kind of info that prompt law enforcement and/or prosecution. If anything, the OEMs enjoy the fevered anticipation and free publicity.

    AJ

I meant more like he wouldn't get as many leaks from his sources. But the article above reveals who he is finally. Ev stands for Evan. Interesting read. He still seems off on this one. Looks like he assumed 820 and 821 were the same thing.
