  1. Maybe consider a donation so you can look at the maps and get an idea of where your area is in the Network Vision rollout. I'm sure there is work being done, as to what extent, you can look in the sponsor area at how many towers are near you, which ones have work done already, and which haven't had any work done. Also the other perks that come along with being a sponsor. It doesn't take a entire paycheck...just a few bucks and you can 1)help the site by donating, and 2)see exactly what's happening.

    Something to ponder.

  2. I had an interesting talk with a CS rep today over the phone, I was told once my contract is up or 18 months had past that the "Spending Limit (when I signed up my credit wasn't great whereas now it's over 720)" would be removed from my account. Well apparently the CS rep I spoke to back in May was wrong, the only way to remove it is to sign up for auto-bill pay which I do not want. So in the end I got a semi-permanent $11 credit on my bill for the next two years to make up for it. Which brings my solo Framily plan down to $44/month + $20 for unlimited data. Though I am still not completely satisfied as I was lied to or was I?

I had been on ASL since I signed up with Sprint, and just never inquired about getting it removed...but after 6 years, I decided to just up and ask them "hey, can I have that $4.99 fee removed"...

Transfer to account services..couple minutes on phone with rep...no more ASL fee.

I never came close to hitting the spending limits anyway..but paying extra $4.99 monthly just for nothing...figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

  3. Public Service Wireless (http://www.psdatawireless.com/) should at least help with some of the rural Georgia ex-Alltel areas, although interestingly enough they seem to be a data-only provider; they have no voice network at all, although they do offer VoIP over LTE.

They appear to currently be operating their service on 10x10 AWS (1710-1720/2110-2120), but they also have 6x6 700 (mostly 710-716/740-746, a couple on 704-710/734-740), in the following CMAs.

    Both AWS and 700: 153 (Columbus, GA/Phenix City, AL), 261 (Albany, GA), 376 (Georgia 6/Spalding County - 12x12 700), 379 (Georgia 9/Marion County)

    700-only markets: 139 (Montgomery, AL)

    AWS-only markets: 138 (Macon/Warner Robins, GA), 314 (Alabama 8/Lee County), 375 (Georgia 5/Haralson County)

They also have EBS(!) in 17 west central Georgia counties, pretty much all rural (biggest city is probably Americus).

Is there a map of the area showing these markets? I'm curious on the Montgomery market...exactly how far north that may go.

  4. No, I read the spec on the Genie, but that was after I was already with Dish and didn't want to change. I saw it on a satellite forum I'm a member of long before it ever made the public eye...it looked promising, but so did Dirct's other DVR equipment. The one thing about Direct is you can watch online all you want. With dish, you don't have that option. I didn't know that when I switched...I used to watch online a lot before Dish..

  5. This might make being a Dish customer an actual 'enjoyable' experience.

I mainly don't like Dish simply because I don't like Charlie Ergen. But I don't like Direct pricing either, and both of the providers have SUCKY equipment. The hopper on Dish is a joke +1. And Hopper + Sling? Don't even think about it unless you got 30meg internet...it won't work worth a sh7t. I paid $50 for that sling adapter and it's collecting dust on top of the TV cabinet, not even plugged in. First time I tried to watch a football game away from home after I bought it, I realized what a gimmicky waste of money it was, and it's been unused since.

Maybe Softbank can bring something to Dish customers that adds value to being a Sprint customer as well... a synergy of sorts...Guess it'll be years before anything actually hits the ground, but it's good to know what the future might hold. There's no hope in Charter moving from 10 minutes up the road to our neighborhood with cable/internet access, so like many, I'll be on satellite and AT&T's petty DSL for X amount of time (I keep hoping the DSLAM will fail and they'll replace with an IPDSLAM instead of the ATM that they are using now -- which would mean u-Verse speed internet versus blah-speed internet)

  6. FBI surveillance van for SSID. I saw that SSID pop up on my list once.

    Sent from my Nexus 5

I did that for neighbors who may want to try and connect...doubt they'd ever figure out my password, but it makes people talk -- and in this small town, they need all they can to talk about.

  8. Pretty darn good. It actually didn't hold her attention very long when she figured out that it wouldn't come on, so she would just pick it up, look at it and try to turn it on, then toss it wherever she could *luckily not in the tub or water again*....

  9. I actually just turned it off and put it in a bag of rice and worked perfectly in the morning.

I actually just turned it off and put it in a bag of rice and worked perfectly in the morning.

    Deja Vu...

  10. I had my G2 since it launched back in Nov 2013...never a problem.. Until the day back in May when my 2 year-old daughter decided to grab daddy's phone from the porch outside and take it swimming with her. I was working on my old 1974 Ford F100 and I happened to think "I don't have my phone, where did I leave it"..then it was that 'oh sh*t' moment...and when I looked at her, she had my phone just dowsing it up and down in water.

By the time I got to her, it was off already....and I tried taking it from the otterbox and putting in rice.....left it for 3-4 days.

So I left immediately and went to get a GS5...

I nearly cried because I LOVED my G2..

I figured it was ruined, so I let my daughter keep playing with it. Tried a couple times, like a month later, to plug it in and charge it...no luck. Wouldn't even flash any lights.

So, you'd think after 2 months of sitting and you plug it in, and nothing happens that the phone is a lost cause, right?

Apparently not. I picked it up yesterday, just happened to "find" it because I really didn't keep up with what my daughter has been using it for (she's used it as a hammer, carried it around, played with it while eating sticky sh*t...literally just abused it like a 2 year-old would abuse anything electronic).....

And I found it, so I decided to hit the power button. It hasn't been plugged up to anything since June...and when I hit power, it came on.

Granted it only had 3% battery...it still came on..

So I plugged it in and let it charge. Located the SIM tray and card that it had in it...reinserted it while it was charging...

It hit 100% charge and I turned it on. The phone still has my number in the programming, so it caused my G3 to freak out for a minute...but I put it in airplane mode, and it's been on since yesterday around 11am. Right now, it still shows 72% battery..

Check out how long it says is left on the battery:

Now what do I do with this thing??? I hate to keep it as a spare, it still seems to be a good phone, and everything works (camera, mic, speaker, etc). I just got an extra phone now, thanks to just by chance turning it on to see what it would do yesterday.

  11. Social media showdown: Sprint's Claure fires back at Legere

Interesting to note that Marcelo is just retweeting other people tweets, not actually doing the tweet.

    TS

I haven't noticed where he's actually composed any tweets except non-Tmo stuff. And usually he does his R/T later in the evening...9-10pm. Or that's when I get notifications of his R/T's.

Re tweeting is subtle enough to get the point across. We all know how responding to trolls goes.

Sent from my iPhone 5s using Tapatalk

I actually like his approach. It's more tactical than Legere's rampant babbling...and his hair. Every time I see a photo of Legere, I'm reminded of the treasure trolls:

    Trolls_Not_Smurfs.jpg

It seems Marcelo liked your post.

I'm almost ready to turn off notifications for one of my tweets...this was R/T by Marcelo and about 10 others as well:

  12. Mysteriously, my G2 that my daughter dumped in the pool just started working again. And it seems like everything is just fine with it. Guess I have my backup device now

    LG G3

Is this common to see or just a fluke? I know for a fact there is no 41 here. Only 25, it's been 25 for a year now (around August 8 of 2013 when they turned on the one tower near me..still waiting on the other 3 to get it)..

The serving cell is correct for the band 25, as that's what I get on that side of town with band 25...but I know it's impossible that there was 41. Just curious why it showed up as 41?

I had to go back and edit, my phone wouldn't let me edit, and for some reason it posted twice, once with the pic, and once without. I tried to fix it via my phone, but Tapatalk sometimes -- most times -- sucks..and has problems that they aren't addressing in updates.

  13. I LOVE how he blocked you from following him, so funny...

I know rite..You'd think I spend every day harassing the guy and sending hundreds of nasty tweets to him. Truth be told, I've sent him maybe 20 tweets in my life, but they are calling him on his BS..like how T-mo just up and dropped roaming agreements here out of the blue. No warning, no rhyme or reason....one day tmo worked, next day it was GONE ...just like that. And never came back...

Used to, this area was ONLY Tmo..You could get 5 bars in the middle of Nowhereville, 35150...and other carriers fell behind Tmo. But suddenly, they just dropped off. I had Tmo, and had to let it go because they just quit working. Literally speaking, it worked, then it didn't. Then they sent me a bill for $13 for 16 months after I cancelled service because of their stupid billing system..

Granted, this was back in 2007..but still. I had to drive an hour to take phones back to Bham, and then I was without a phone until I found service. It's quite annoying to call up friends on your landline and say "hey, what service you got? Can you come to my house and let me see if it works here?"

So yeah, I felt a little burned by Tmo..back then. But I couldn't be happier now, and wouldn't even take the Testdrive thing if they offered (which I seriously doubt they offer for 35150). Last I checked the  Tmo coverage map, 35150 really sucked with big blotches of white all over ...very little magenta until you get near Bham or Mont..

Back on topic though...just thought I'd toss in some comic relief...Seems like John is a little more uptight these days. Maybe a change in hair gel is causing withdrawals, maybe his pink panties got thrown into the whites and came out with some yellow pee stains and it struck him the wrong way...Not sure, but he sure seems to have issues lately.

  14. On 8/22/2014 at 6:49 AM, S4GRU said:

I was speaking of individual plans...Framily is a group plan. T-Mobile plan is temporary and it's a $10 credit off a 5GB plan. Try again. Now most of us disagree with you too.

Face it folks. It's disruptive. If not, no one else will counter it at all. Let's see what happens this week. Oh wait, Tmo has already making pricing moves and Legere is constantly freaking out on Twitter. My point has already been made.

Tmo apologists say that when Tmo lowers prices, it's Uncarrier and it's driving the competition to go lower and Tmo is fighting for the people. Even though all they did was just move the money around with subsidies. Someone actually takes unsubsidized prices and lowers them further, and it's not disruptive. But if Tmo matches it and throws in dial up roaming in Botswana, that will be disruptive and the tech media will stroke Legere and all the magenta douches will dance around the fire tweeting hashtags until they all pass out from their ecstasy enduced love fest.

    Whatever.

Freaking out on Twitter is putting it mildly, Robert. Dude went apeshit on me, blocked me from following him and tweeted this to me:

I don't say much to the guy, but lately I've been giving him a hard time about his bs with Twitter. I can't stand a sh@tstain like him being all uppidy and acting like he's never called Tmo the best carrier ever. I saw his train T comment before folks here said anything because I just happened to be on Twitter when he posted it. Oh, before I forget, I must go weep with sorrow for being booted from the CEO's followers. Boo hoo.

I never win at those contests. As an aside to that,  I guess I get enough stuff doing the beta tests...I just signed another NDA this morning to begin a test this week on another "network" device

  15. An apparent outage this weekend on Sony's Playstation network was attributed to a hacker(S) group claiming to be "LizardSquad" ...

I read some of the story, but spent my entire weekend sick and in the bed, so I didn't even turn on my PS4. I just saw the story last night and remembered that infamous outage of 2011 when PSN was down for 25+ some-odd days due to anonymous taking aim at Sony for suing geohotz (whatever his handle/monicker was) when he hacked the PS3 then made it public.

seems like service has mostly been restored according to reports, I personally still haven't turned on my PS4 to see if that's the case in my area..but Sony says all should be OK again.

You would think these kids would have better things to do than to play robinhood from mom's basement...

Apparently, a fake bomb threat to a Sony bigwig triggers the FBI to act..

story with updates on network status:

    http://www.shacknews.com/article/85951/blizzard-playstation-network-and-more-under-wide-ddos-attack-update-fbi-now-investigating

"Blizzard, PlayStation Network, and more under wide DDoS attack [update: FBI now investigating]"

  16. I like the size of my G3 (it's what, 5.5 I guess?)..but I'm not against going back down to something in the range of the Sharp.

I'd like to see what they've got that ties it into the TVs (I have an Aquos Smart 60").

My Toshiba smart TV only lasted 11 months with mild/moderate use of the smart features..then hit and error that they couldn't even fix so I got a replacement and opted for the Sharp. Even though Sharp and Toshiba are Tier 2 tv sets, I think the sharp has a much better picture and the speed of the sharp in menu's is unreal compared to that Toshiba...

Back on topic though, I bet this is going to be an option for most people in the boat I'm in...I just replaced a GS5 on insurance because my daughter dropped hers out the window while doing 85 down the interstate (she was a passenger)...so there went $200 bucks to get another one.  Now if she does something to this one, it's either buy another phone off-contract from Sprint...OR, try Swappa or Ebay for a phone, which turned out pretty bad the last time I did it and it took me a week of calling to get the phone activated in my account. The seller was extremely nice and helped along the way, after the sell..but that was just luck. Usually, once they sell, it's on the buyer ... Unless it's changed.

So, instead of paying a $200 insurance deductible to replace another SGS5...I could just throw in another $40 and have this one.

This may not only grab new customers, but also customers who drop/break/lose a device that costs nearly this much in insurance to replace... And then you get a bunch of people with non-subsidy phones as long-term customers, and new customers as well, unless they stick easy-pay as the only option to get the phone for this price...which I can't see as being very practical.
