  1. That is a stupid argument. It's like saying, since cheaper cars are available from Scion and Toyota, buying a Lexus from the same company is the worst deal ever.
  2. Because a "massive price war" would be unsustainable over the period of several years it would take for Sprint to get as big as the other two. As has been now shown by T-Mobile, it can only be a short term strategy. Sprint would have to somehow get within striking distance of AT&T and Vz before it could launch a price war for that final growth burst to catch up with the two.
  3. While at home and connected to the Airave, put the phone in CDMA mode.
  4. If I remember correctly, the answer is yes - CA uses a 'primary' cell which serves as the anchor for the connection and one or more 'secondary' cells to be aggregated with the primary, and the secondary cells need not come from the same site as the primary.
  5. So, I don't know if this has been posted before or not, but this Lightreading article has some serious allegations against Legere's past, including misappropriating company money, sexual harassment suits, etc. http://www.lightreading.com/mobile/4g-lte/is-softbank-ready-to-reunite-with-legere/a/d-id/707433
  6. I agree, I think the Framily commercials do their job. But then again, I find it difficult to judge the new commercials objectively - the previous ones with the two veteran actors talking gibberish were so bad that anything else is an improvement.
  7. I'm not an expert on this subject, but are you possibly referring to Sprint Connection Optimizer that comes pre-installed on all Sprint phones (non-Nexus)? That is the only thing I can think of that can affect 3G/4G/WiFi connections.
  8. Not the worst result possible, considering the volume of change the network went through. It should only get better from here on. It always annoys me though when bar charts have their axes shifted to magnify differences. Things would appear more competitive if all bars started from zero.
  9. Dish is interested in the 1900 MHz H Block because they already own spectrum adjacent to it.
  10. Would be in interesting to see who are the invitees and would it be open to the general public, would anyone from the FCC/DoJ or other telecom. industry players would be there, etc.
  11. These days I consistently get 3G speeds of 1Mbps or more, sometimes even 2+ Mbps. Coupled with low latency on eHRPD, I find it to be eminently usable for most purposes. Most Sprint critics won't believe, or remember, but around 2007-2008, Sprint's EvDO network regularly beat out all three competitors. Back then, HSDPA wasn't a thing, so all GSM carriers had was EDGE. It's good to see Sprint's 3G network back performing the way it should always have.
  12. Interesting. Wonder how Ericsson's Dot compares to Artemis' pCell: SoftBank Trials Ericsson's Dot Indoors http://www.lightreading.com/mobile/small-cells/softbank-trials-ericssons-dot-indoors/d/d-id/707906
  13. Interesting. In addition to % LTE deployment, this could also indicate that Verizon and Sprint have set their hand over points to 3G to be very low, so as to squeeze every last bit of traffic on LTE before user is bumped down to 3G. This could be another reason (in addition to % LTE deployment and smaller bandwidth, etc.) why Sprint LTE speeds come behind AT&T & T-Mobile in several reports - some carriers might retain less users on LTE in weak signal conditions than others.
  14. Great, thank you all for the case recommendations!
  15. Seeing Sprint Spark pop up at several locations in Northern Jersey, even though it's not on the launch list. If initial Spark markets are all Clearwire sites, I'm wondering if Clearwire's definition of New York City market, unlike Sprint's, extends into NJ? Got 48 Mbps down at the Newport Center Mall yesterday. A few days before that, pulled 8 Mbps down on B41 with -111 RSRP. Not bad
  16. Hi all, Can someone summarize the various cases that are available for the G2? This thread is nearly 200 pages long and any keyword search I do brings up all kinds of unrelated posts.
  17. I want to know if there is anything technically unique about this product that separates it from 'plain vanilla' Small Cells/HetNet, CoMP, etc. solutions being built into upcoming 3GPP releases. And if there isn't, what is to stop the ALUs, Ericssons, Airvanas. etc. of the world from offering identical products that also integrate better with their existing deployments?
  18. It jumps into hyperspace. Not joking, that's what my previous phone said on the debug screen. Actually I know how it works; the reason I don't trust it is because, coming from a carrier, I think it could be over-eager (read: more frequent checks) to bump me off 3G/4G and onto WiFi compared to a third-part app. Maybe I'm just being paranoid .
  19. I'd think it's similar, but I've disabled Connection Optimizer so don't know. The description is too vague and there are no controls, so i don't trust it enough to use it.
  20. Yeah, it can be a bit overwhelming at first. You can create an event in the Events tab by choosing conditions (e.g. between 11 PM and 7 AM) and actions (turn off 4G). Or you can create/edit an existing profile in the Profiles tab. The app tries to learn your location by noting the towers the phone connects to in a particular location, so the next time it sees that tower, it knows you have reached, say, home. You can then configure it to trigger a particular action, such as turning on WiFi or changing ringer volume, etc.
  21. If you're asking me, the answer is yes with Llama - you can set it up to turn off 4G automatically at a particular time or location, or manually when you change profiles (Home, Work, etc.). I have an Airave at home but the G2 frequently loses signal and drains battery when connected to it, so I put the phone in CDMA mode. Same goes for the wife's Nexus 5. I guess the Airave does not work well with eCSFB devices.
  22. Thank you all for the welcome . For those who don't know, Captain Slow is the nickname for James May on the hit UK car show Top Gear . Back to topic, I just moved from the Motorola Photon (WiMax) to the G2. Photon was a really solid phone and served me well - strong radio and loud speaker. I wish Motorola hadn't left this phone hanging on Gingerbread 2.3.5 though. Really liking the G2 so far, especially the battery life and Knock On. Occasional B41 connection is always nice too.
  23. Any news on the final tally for this auction? How much did Dish win, and what is the difference between their wins and $1.56B?
  24. You can use Llama, which is free. P.S.: Hello everyone! I've been a lurker on this forum for over two years and a Sprint user for nine. Enjoy reading the technical and business discussions here and hope to contribute whatever little I can.
