  1. I think that would be a mistake. Other major national and international carriers are moving towards vertical consolidation with wireless, wireline/cable and content providers. If anything, Sprint should look to combining with Centurylink/L3C, etc.(whoever has minimum overlap with Sprint) or one of the cable companies. If you want to be a big player, you have to play big games. Edit: Above is in addition to acquiring US Cellular and other rural roaming partners.
  2. ^ Thanks, that's a lot of de-spreading gain, especially for the military version.
  3. Interesting. Just out of curiosity, what is the typical bandwidth and chip rate for GPS?
  4. What is the typical signal strength of satellite signals on the ground? -90dBm sounds rather strong for something coming from space.
  5. Is that also what will enable Sprint handsets to be carrier unlocked starting 2015, as announced?
  6. My favorite tweet: " T-Mobile's got so much EDGE, it almost got acquired by Gillette." [emoji3] https://mobile.twitter.com/JohnLegere/status/501718230730166272 Also I see many more tweets critical of T-Mobile's coverage, so people are starting to see through John's fake swagger and calling him out.
  7. Wow, I know about CoWs and CoLTs, but they have an entire zoo! Horses, goats and crows...[emoji106]
  8. That is because the 3G Air interfaces are generally not "forward compatible" with LTE, so any periodic better system scans have to be implemented at the handset, not forced by the network. If the handset is in an active connection on 3G, it cannot scan for 4G until it goes dormant for x seconds, usually 4, 7 or 10 sec.
  9. Sprint is purchasing Cellular One's tower leases in Montana/Wyoming: http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/cellular-one-shutting-down-service-montana-wyoming/2014-08-13
  10. From a signal attenuation standpoint, I would think laying the fiber underground allows it to remain straight as much as possible, as opposed to on a pole, where it would sag under gravity as well as due to snow, wind, birds, etc. I'm no expert on fiber optics but imagine the more a fiber bends, more is the signal loss due to dispersion, etc.
  11. Like the one where they cancelled corporate discounts, thereby *raising* prices, yet T-Mo fanboys lapped it up as another "uncarrier" move.
  12. I thought 495 was the way to bypass the mess [emoji12]. But yeah, they need a bypass for the bypass!
  13. Among all the deal news, not sure if Q2 financial comparison was posted anywhere. http://www.fiercewireless.com/special-reports/how-verizon-att-sprint-t-mobile-and-tracfone-stacked-q2 If one can look beyond the Magenta dog-and-pony show, the EBITDA Margins chart is very telling. Sprint and T-Mobile have divergent trajectories where it matters, for any business.
  14. Also you should see slightly better Latency on eHRPD as compared to EvDO. Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk
  15. Per my completely unscientific comparison, battery life does seems to be slightly better, but I will watch for a few days to confirm. Knock Code seems to be working only half the time, but I think it's more a matter of training my fingers to get the timing and pressure right. Does seem to need more deliberate gestures than the quick double tap that worked with Knock On. Also good to see that the fake Bluetooth 5% entry on the battery usage screen in gone. Has anyone seen any improvement on GPS performance? Was inaccurate and slow to lock on, making it mostly useless in ZVC.
  16. I know the signal is hot close to the site, but this takes it to a different level altogether
  17. Agreed, that's a well-made video, almost makes it difficult to believe it's from Sprint
  18. I wonder if FCC's speed test app is exempt from the data cap as well. It would be awkward for T-Mobile if it isn't.
  19. Well, what do you know, Sprint just moved from fourth place to second place at Chicago O'Hare airport according to Root Metrics' latest rankings! DL speeds increased from ~2 Mbps in 2H 2013 to 30+ Mbps in 1H 2014, beating out AT&T and T-Mobile. http://www.rootmetrics.com/us/rsr/ORD-airport To answer the question above, expect to see Sprint beating or pulling even with competition in many more places this year
  20. I believe Samsung is also a vendor for Reliance's upcoming 4G launch in India.
  21. Well, at least he can dip into T-Mobile's cash to defend himself when he gets sued. http://www.lightreading.com/mobile/4g-lte/is-softbank-ready-to-reunite-with-legere/a/d-id/707433 "Legere reportedly used $500,000 of company money from Asia Global Crossing without first obtaining board approval to settle three sexual harassment suits against him."
  22. In my opinion, that graph is a great example of an optical illusion. By indicating overlap areas using Purple color, which belongs to the same color group as pink/magenta, T-Mobile's coverage seems to be visually reinforced. I bet Sprint and T-Mobile coverage areas would look much more balanced simply by using a neutral color such as blue or black. Heck, if they used Orange to indicate overlap coverage, the perception would be reversed.
