  1. I think this is only going to work on iPhones and Windows Phones. Some of the articles and press releases talk about using Boingo's "Passport Secure" application. Looking at Boingo.com and the Passport Link you will see this;

"Start with a device running iOS7 (or higher), OSX Mavericks (or Higher) or Windows 10. Passpoint works with all Hotspot 2.0 capable devices running Windows 10, iPhone 5 (or Higher), iPad 3rd Generation (or Higher), iPad Air, all iPad Minis, and Macs running OSX Mavericks (or Higher)."

So maybe no love for Android Phones here.

OFF TOPIC - I wish this software would allow me to post Links, Pictures and other things like it use too. :td:

I asked Marcelo on twitter which devices were supported. Specifically if the LG g2 was and received this response from a sprint rep.

    @AdrienneNort

@marioc @sprintnews @boingo Nearly all of our Android-based devices are supported

I think as someone stated elsewhere this goes through the sprint connections optimizer app.  No separate app is needed.

  2. Yes, but they don't send Airaves out of service areas, and it will not work outside of Sprint markets. I'm hoping the router could be different. But not likely so.

Yes, but this isn't a pico cell.  It's just a wifi router that prioritizes Sprint wifi calls. So maybe.  Doubt it has a gps receiver built-in.

  3. While I believe that 80% figure, and the second graph from this NYT article: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/11/travel/where-will-americans-travel-in-2015-.html?_r=0 seems to confirm that, there are some notable countries missing that I hope are some of the ones targeted for inclusion by the end of the year.  Even if they don't match T-Mobile's impressive list of countries, getting France, Italy, China & Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, India, the Bahamas and Caribbean countries, Australia and New Zealand would be huge for business travelers and vacationers.

I'm sure more will be added with time.  I notice that most of the initial batch were central and south american countries.  This ties in with Marcelo's push to win larger portion of hispanic customers.

  5. So sprint is joining the home wifi router club.  From new Stephen Bye blog post.

    http://newsroom.sprint.com/blogs/sprint-perspectives/connecting-customers-to-the-best-available-network.htm

    In-Home Coverage
Today Sprint launched WiFi Connect, a consumer WiFi router that prioritizes Sprint specific WiFi Calling over all other WiFi traffic and includes Smart Connect technology that dynamically manages 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi bands for optimal WiFi data performance, delivering a great Sprint customer experience in homes or small offices.  The solution is available free of charge to qualified customers.

This to go along with the news about free airport wifi through Boingo.

  6. This would have been nice a few years ago when they stared upgrading their networks. However, now people expect Sprint to have ubiquitous LTE throughout airports in primary and secondary markets. But it will be welcome at some places.

Better late than never. Personally, I always prefer wifi to LTE. One, it doesn't eat my data allotment and 2 it doesn't eat my battery as fast.  Unfortunately I don't travel much for work.  So I hope they expand the wifi option more broadly in near future.

  7. LOS ANGELES & OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), April 30, 2015 - Boingo Wireless, the leading DAS and Wi-Fi provider, and Sprint today announced a multi-year Wi-Fi agreement, enabling access to seamless and secure Boingo Wi-Fi networks in 35 major U.S. airports. Leveraging Boingo’s industry-leading network technology, connecting to Wi-Fi will become as easy and safe as cellular.

Sprint devices within proximity of a Boingo hotspot can automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network seamlessly, providing service at the fastest speeds available, be that cellular from Sprint or Wi-Fi from Boingo. The auto-authenticating Wi-Fi connections are available at no additional charge to all Sprint customers with capable devices, and usage while connected to Wi-Fi does not count towards a customer’s monthly service plan. Sprint and Boingo conducted successful market trials with millions of Sprint handsets, which demonstrated the consumer benefits of effortless authentication onto Boingo’s network.

Edit: Only thing I don't see is a list of what devices are "capable".

  8. So Marcelo is really looking to make Sprint #1 with hispanic customers in US.

Sprint (NYSE:S) announced today the appointment of Roger Solé in a dual role: senior vice president for the Hispanic market and senior vice president of Innovation.

Solé, who will report to CEO Marcelo Claure, assumes a newly created role to lead all functions in Sprint’s new Hispanic business unit. Sprint sees the Hispanic market as one of the fastest growing segments of the U.S. population and an area where the company can gain leadership. On the innovation front, Claure said, Sprint welcomes an established global leader with years of experience in bringing new and different products and services to light.

Solé also will assume the role as president of Sprint Puerto Rico. All business functions in Puerto Rico will report to Solé, including general manager Patricia Eaves. Puerto Rico will be the hub for Sprint’s Latin creativity and innovation.

  9. How come when I go to update it, on the screen it said waiting to download? Any reason why is waiting? There aren't any buttons to push to initiate update...

Just give it time. It's probably a big file.
  10. ZVG is up there now. Is there a way to check if the OTA is up without flashing to stock? Post if you've got it

Sweet. That means the code is finished. So now it's up to sprint to hit the button to push out the update. Probably will see it next week.

Once the update starts going out I'm sure someone will release an update zip file on xda.

The guy talking is not a very smooth speaker.

    Basically

    1. We've made the chicago network great.

    2. will be spending more to make it better

    3. Opening a bunch of new stores this year to give customers a great experience.

    Jobs Jobs Jobs.

FYI - Convenient with Chicago mayor's race in runoff election.

  12. Seems pretty clear that it's only for those new plans, not just a general "free" phone offer. This really is just a play with numbers. Regular unlimited plan is $60, plus $20 phone lease. Or get an $80 unlimited plan with added perks of annual upgrade and free data roaming in 15 countries.

If you are on the cheapest Framily plan ($25/line), with unlimited data, it's still slightly cheaper to just lease the Galaxy S6 than get the new plan at $80.

I'm sure it is. But I'm greedy. I want the free lease too.

  13. Sprint is leasing the Galaxy S6 to new and existing customers for FREE after monthly bill credit

    http://newsroom.sprint.com/news-releases/free-samsung-galaxy-s-6-only-from-sprint.htm

    http://newsroom.sprint.com/news-releases/free-samsung-galaxy-s-6-for-the-family-only-from-sprint.htm

It also looks like they're introducing a new "Unlimited Plus" plan for individuals, priced at $80/month.

They also added free unlimited 2G speed international roaming for Western Europe and Latin America

Just posted this same thing in the Galasy s6 thread.  What isn't exactly clear is whether the offer is only for those that sign up for this specific plan.  I would take this in a heartbeat if they offered it on framily plan lines, but I doubt it.

  14. So this is an interesting offer.

    http://newsroom.sprint.com/news-releases/free-samsung-galaxy-s-6-only-from-sprint.htm?ECID=SM:TW:E:Samsung:032615

From reading it I guess it's only going to be offered for that specific plan.  But to get the phone for "free" is interesting.

Update: Interesting.  I think this was released early.  When you type in the web address on the press release it just redirects to the pre-registration page for the S6.

I attached the image in case it disappears.
