The January security update showed up on my phone Sunday morning. Hit update if it hasn't popped up for you yet.
-
A bit late on this. The December security update came down the pipe the week between Christmas and New Years. If it hasn't popped up automatically check for it manually.

I think that Sprint wants to elevate its market cap to approximately equal to T-Mobile's. Right now Sprint's is about $33-34B and T-Mobile's is $47B.
Related, didn't Marcelo have a large number of stock options that he could cash in once the stock price hit $8? I see the price is currently at $8.42/share. I wonder if we'll see an SEC filing next year regarding Marcelo selling stock.

I believe merger between Sprint and tmobile might happen sooner than people think. Fcc Wheeler will step down on Jan 20. After Wheeler steps down, there will be 4 republicans to 1 democrat on Fcc committee. Very likely, merger will be approved.
Aren't the commissioners always split 3-2? So even after Trump makes his appointment for commissioner it would still be 3-2 R.

Oh snap that is right, thanks.
Fixed. Added text.
Here's the John Saw transcript:

Reading through Light Reading's articles about Sprint, I came upon this nugget:
"...CEO Marcelo Claure told an audience of financial analysts in New York City that Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S) is planning to lease a tranche of its spectrum out to potential interested parties "as soon as possible."..."
I don't think that this is the sale and lease back of its own spectrum. So who might be interested?
That story looks to be from back in September. I think he's just referring to the sale/leaseback notes they put out.

Just recently my N4 has been informing me that I have "weak charging" - my phone draining faster than the phone can charge. I'v tried a new battery, but that hasn't worked. I've stopped using FB Messenger as that was a battery hog.
Is it possible that the software update introduce some bloatware that is using up my resources? Never had this problem before. Or is it likely that it is just an old phone that needs a repair?
I can't say I've ever gotten that specific message before. Does it give you the message with any charger you try to use or is it one specific charger?
-
If there's anyone on the Note 4 left besides me, here's some news. Another update is coming down the pipe. It's 370mb in size. Assuming its the October security update.

Yeah I wonder why they don't have any data roaming

Cost I imagine. Or it could simply be another incentive to get you to move over to post-paid.

Sprint preliminary results
The company sees FQ2 net operating revenue of $.825B, up 3% Y/Y, and wireless net operating revenue of $7.85B up nearly 5%.
Net loss of $142M vs. $585M a year ago, with this quarter's result boosted by a non-cash gain of $218M.
Operating income of $622M vs. a $2M loss a year ago, again boosted by that non-cash gain ($354M pretax).
Adjusted EBITDA of $2.35B up 17% Y/Y.
Adjusted free cash flow of $707M vs. a negative $100M a year ago.
Total Sprint platform net additions of 740K during quarter, including postpaid net additions of 344K, prepaid net losses of 427K, and wholesale and affiliate net additions of 823K.
Total postpaid churn of 1.52% slipped two basis points, and postpaid phone churn of 1.37% was lowest in company
Reading the 8-K filings it looks like total platform churn of 1.52% improved by two basis points year-over-year. So it actually decreased from the 3rd quarter number last year.
Here's the filing for anybody who wants to read: https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/101830/000119312516740226/d268385d8k.htm

Don't know. Don't even know what the cloud option is. Where do you go to check?
-
Is it Softbank creating a leasing company like they did to handle the phone leases?
No, it looks like Sprint is doing this on their own. Unless Softbank winds up buying the Notes.

aren't they selling it to themselves?
sounds like taking a loan on your 401k
Pretty much. I misread the details of the news release. Sprint is transferring the spectrum to three subsidiary companies that Sprint itself will own.
-
It's actually a smart move. What exactly binds the new owner from just leasing it to somebody else? Contract?
This sounds similar to what T-Mobile did when they sold their cell towers off a year or two ago and started leasing them.
I actually misread the news release. Sprint is transferring ownership to three subsidiaries created and by Sprint. They in turn are issuing notes backed by the spectrum holdings that Sprint is transferring. So Sprint still effectively owns the spectrum.

-
So does this mean that Sprint is using its spectrum as collateral for a loan?
Effectively, I suppose.

Well, here's the spectrum sale/lease announcement. $3.5 billion initial sale/leaseback.
A couple of paragraphs about what pieces they're selling.
The Spectrum Portfolio is currently utilized by approximately 77 percent of all of Sprint’s 2.5GHz enabled sites and approximately 33 percent of Sprint’s 1.9GHz enabled sites. The Spectrum Portfolio will be leased back to Sprint Communications Inc. pursuant to a long-term lease agreement, the rental payments for which are sufficient to service the Notes. Based on an independent third-party valuation, the central value of the Spectrum Portfolio as of June 30, 2017, based on the various assumptions and limitations set forth in the valuation report, is approximately $16.4 billion.- 3

New update showed up on my phone. Downloading now. Expecting it to be the August security patch.
Update:
The update is now installed and it looks like Samsung just skipped the August patch and went straight to September's. My phone is now showing a Security Patch Level of September 1, 2016. Don't know what else came along for the ride though.

Received the July security update on my phone today. Do an update check and see if it shows up for you. Nothing else noted beyond the usual "update may contain additional bug fixes...", etc.
-
I think since you are on a lease already you can just turn it in and start the new lease. I am not on a lease and don't reach the 2 years til Oct but I still have the option to start a 24 month payment plan or a lease.
I know that at the end of the lease I can turn it in and get a new phone or pay off the remaining balance and keep the phone. I didn't think they let you turn it in early. I was wondering if they were running some kind of promotion.
-
So I logged into my account just now and saw that Sprint is saying I am upgrade eligible. This surprises me since I still have 9 more lease payments left on my note 4. Is Sprint doing this for old Note users? Anybody else get a surprise upgrade eligibility?
-
If I just heard correctly, John Saw just said that Sprint will have a total of Five 3xCA capable devices....
Two are on the market now (S7/S7 Edge).... and three more are on the way.
I'll bet one of them is the iPhone 7.
Another is probably the Note 7.

So is this the May security update?

Just since the update to marshmallow, that's why I don't really think it's hardware related. I've done a factory reset and it didn't fix it.
Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk
I can tell you what I figured out. After the marshmallow update I set up encryption on my phone and mine would inevitably reboot about once a day after it was sitting for a while and I would pick it up and hit the home button. I think I finally figured out that Doze was putting the fingerprint reader and security processes into deep sleep. So whenever I went to wake up the phone once it was out for a while it would go a bit crazy trying to wake up and re-authenticate the security settings. I went into the battery settings and turned off battery optimization for all of the apps that seemed like they were security related. Since then my phone hasn't done a reboot since.
So even if you don't have encryption turned on or use the finger print reader you might want to check that out. Maybe turn off doze for every app and see how that goes. Then add doze back one app at a time.
