  1. Wonder why there is a 1/2 and 2/2. Does that mean it is either a big file upgrade or they tried one and it didn't work or forgot to put something in it the first on and just made a second file?

That just means there are 3 files to download.  If you notice right under file 2/2 there is a ZVE kernel update file as well.  These are just source code files.  If you were a coder working on ROMS for the G2 you would need all three files. None of these are the update file that Sprint will eventually push out.

  2. I'll grant you the article is mostly about Verizon, but if you read far enough down you'll see the brief mention of Sprint looking into the same thing.  Not really a lot of details but interesting none the less.  I suppose this means Sprint and VZ both get tired of having to rely on contractors for cell site bandwidth?

  3. So now it is officially official.

Sprint (NYSE:S) confirmed it will shut off service on its mobile WIMAX network on or around Nov. 6, 2015, giving further clarity on its network evolution.

Sprint spokeswoman Adrienne Norton confirmed the date to FierceWireless. The date was first unearthed in an internal company email posted by the blog Android Central.

  4. Any word when the new update is coming out?? Should be soon since it is posted, right??

If you guys are referring to this http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/4886-lg-g2-users-thread/?p=368399 you should know that it just means sprint is testing an update for the g2.  This update may or may not be released. There's no way to know when or if Sprint will push it out.  It could be replaced by multiple other files first as sprint moves through is testing.

Best way to check is to go here https://www.lg.com/global/support/opensource/opensourceList?types=ALL&search=ls980  That's LG's open source page for the Sprint G2.  Once you see a new update post there it'll be pushed out by Sprint shortly after.  The Sprint update page is usually the last to be updated.

  5. Sprint and Dish have launched their fixed broadband service.

Dish Network (NASDAQ: DISH) launched fixed TD-LTE service in Corpus Christi, Texas, using Sprint's (NYSE: S) 2.5 GHz network and spectrum.

    dish-sprint.jpg

Dish's fixed wireless service relies on an outdoor router, right, that can work alongside Dish's satellite for TV service, left.

The companies first announced in December 2013 that they would partner on the pilot program in Corpus Christi. Dish had said in early August that it expected the Sprint trial to start within a month. Dish is also engaged in a similar pilot program with Sprint network partner nTelos Wireless using fixed 2.5 GHz TD-LTE service in Virginia. The trials are targeted at unserved and underserved consumers, especially those with slow or no Internet access.

Dish said the Internet service in Corpus Christi will deliver download speeds of 10 Mbps, and is available for $30 per month when bundled with a qualifying package of Dish's satellite TV service, or $40 as standalone service.

  6. Sprint's Boost/Virgin also don't have BYOD capabilities like MetroPCS, TracFone, and other GSM prepaid brands. Since most CDMA prepaid brands aren't allowed to activate iPhones, this is notable. What is odd, though, is that Virgin Mobile isn't part of this.

Boost may just be getting it first. VM later.  But, I have to think at some point Sprint will consolidate its prepaid brands.  What's the point in having 3? (Boost, VM, and Sprint Prepaid) Are there really 3 different market niches being served by those 3?

  7. His B41 changes are wise. Since he focuses on things laser like and quickly, this will help Sprint's image dramatically. And hopefully quickly. If they put B41 on every heavy usage LTE site first, in all markets, people will really start to see and feel progress all over.

The nationwide plan of B41 is Masa's by my understanding. The fact he had the cahones to to tell Masa, we must focus on heavy usage sites first is a very good thing. It also means Masa respects him to let him make a big change.

I'm getting more and more optimistic every day. I like that he says he's checking in on the network daily. Feels aggressive. I bet he is challenging no every time it's heard.

So basically he's saying we're going back to the original plan with 2.5? That was the original plan after clearwire purchase wasn't it? Building 2.5 hot spots basically to take care of capacity crunches?

Also, kind of tells you that Hesse was having to placate Masa for better part of the last year.

  8. This one's interesting.  According to Fierce Wireless now that a Sprint/Tmo merger plans are off a "major" wireless carrier is looking to acquire FreedomPop.  FreedomPop is a Sprint MVNO with nearly 1 million subs for its service.  So is the mystery carrier Sprint?

    http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/major-carrier-said-be-considering-acquiring-mvno-freedompop/2014-08-25?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Editor&utm_campaign=SocialMedia

A "major carrier" is considering purchasing Sprint (NYSE: S) MVNO FreedomPop, according to a person familiar with the matter. The talks started after Sprint reportedly discontinued its efforts to merge with T-Mobile US (NYSE:TMUS). The talks were described as "formal," although they are still in the negotiation stage and the transaction may not come to pass.

Could this be one more service offering to add to the new Sprint's quiver?

  9. I agree - outside of people  upgrading to iPhones, I suspect that equipment manufacturers are REALLY going to start competing on price.  I expect the samsung/HTC/LGs of the world are going to REALLY get squeezed - first from China's up and coming low cost manufacturers and second from a new demand for low cost phones that have a lot of value to customers.

The wireless world keeps getting more interesting.

Good.  I said this in the Aquos thread, but I hope Softbank works to bring over more asian phones that have high/mid tier specs at sub $400/300 prices.  I would love to see stuff from Lenovo, Sony, Huawei, etc. come over to sprint.

  10. And yes, we know this is not as good of a value as EDP 1500, with 4 unlimited lines. These are individual plans designed for one or possibly two lines. These are not family plans. And these are the lowest priced postpaid unlimited plans out there at the moment. Single line people have been screwed over the years. Now they have an inexpensive easy option, without trying to recruit friends.

Although, I may still try to join someone's nearly full Framily! That's still the best deal going.

  11. Here is the Sprint Individual Plan we've been waiting on.

    • $60 unlimited plan.
    • Available to both new and existing Sprint Subscribers

    http://newsroom.sprint.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=11517

They must've written this this morning.  They took a shot at magenta's recruiting offer in it.

Sprint’s new everyday price of $60 a month for unlimited saves customers $480 over two years against T-Mobile’s $80 everyday pricing. And, customers can save $120 over two years versus T-Mobile’s promotional price…and they don’t have to jump through T-Mobile’s hoops and recruit their friends.

Edit:  Dang. Beaten to the post again.

I wonder if they accelerated the announcement by a day once TMo made their's?

  12. So it look likes the competition has made a counter move.  Magenta is offering a year of free unlimited data to its customers who bring over someone from another carrier.  Both the current sub and the new sub get unlimited LTE for 12 months.  And their actually marketing against Sprint for getting rid of their unlimited offerings to families. The battle for the #3 spot continues.

Darn, go beaten to this.  Oh well.  Here's the androidcentral story.
