Downdetector.com shows relatively few complaints but definitely some issues. Quite small compared to AT&T's reported national issues a few days ago with VoLTE. Covered in last conference call. It is part of the April 2017 expansion where they purchased the Sprint sites / customers in the Cumberland/ Frostburg area (part of Sprint Western PA market), Marietta, OH/Parkersburg, WV and Gallipolis, WV (Sprint West Virginia Market), and Portsmouth, OH (Sprint Columbus Market). My guess is the remaining counties of the Sprint West Virginia market will be merged back into the Columbus Market. A few sites in this area may already have been upgraded equipment-wise, but it may not have been turned on yet (one found, others checked, some photos still being reviewed). There was discussion of adding / upgrading 88 sites in the prior conference call. They said they will release their capital expansion budget once they decide on the details. Currently each one of the areas is being handled differently.

I have had issues with annoying echos on my phone during voice calls. Started a few months ago and has been getting worse. I can say an entire sentence before I hear the echo. It does not affect Wi-Fi calling. Anyone else seen or heard of this?

Softbank did provide various amounts of capital to Sprint it the earlier years https://www.reuters.com/article/us-sprint-softbank/japans-softbank-snaps-up-sprint-in-20-billion-deal-idUSBRE89A0I520121015, and more through indirect channels in recent years. Look back at this: http://www.barrons.com/articles/SB50001424053111904034104578060690989363534 You forget about Tiger teams with the softbank engineers going to numerous individual sites. To achieve what you wanted, Sprint would have been fully merged into Softbank communications division. Don't forget that Softbank overall is best described as a conglomerate/venture capital firm.

I have a different take. Announcement of a non-merger is unusual, therefor take T-Mobile and Sprint at their word. A deal with a cable company makes sense if Softbank is constrained in making further investments in Sprint given its ownership level. Beyond that I am uncertain. Yes there is content rights, backhaul, and customer base but also a lot of items in a mature industry that may not be of interest. Hopefully what ever additional happens, occurs soon, so the main focus returns to improving service/revenues.

Hopefully we come out with better roaming from this exploration, between T-Mobile and Sprint.

They believe their network is equal to or better than national carriers. Shentel launched their biggest advertising in their history and the end of September to show LTE and new coverage. Store traffic has picked up. They are almost doubling their typical advertising.

My gut feel is Softbank is very limited in what it can do with Sprint given the current ownership level and structure. Setting up an antenna company is quite clever. It can provide more capital to Sprint indirectly in conjunction to the Australian firm or to a new T-Mobile entity including Sprint (it can reduce debt if needed for a deal). If the T-Mobile deal goes through it could buy more share (via treasury stock for more capital or market). It will cost lots of money to build out a nation-wide network, 5G, and merger two firms/networks. This increase in money runs up against DT being able to claim T-Mobile as a whole owned subsidiary, yet without an increase in funds the opportunity to beat the duo could slip away. I also agree that a merger has a lot of risks. It will have to go through all the dealmaking steps before we would know if it is viable. If making the total deal takes too long, the underlying assumptions could also change. Fascinating to watch. ::popcorn::

As of September 30, Shentel has upgraded 854 sites to 4G LTE, added 800 MHz coverage and capacity; decommissioned 99 overlapping sites; and added 2.5GHz capacity to 197 sites. As planned, Shentel will have built 60% of the 220 additional coverage sites in West Virginia and southern Virginia by year end 2017, with the remaining 40% to be built in 2018. By the end of 2018, Shentel will have the largest 4G LTE wireless coverage area in its West Virginia and southern Virginia Affiliate area." "The Company is pleased to have migrated approximately 65% of the prepaid and 73% of the postpaid former nTelos customers to Sprint, while at the same time having rebuilt the entire acquired network." It is almost true that they have upgraded the entire nTelos network. In the end, a lot of mergers are driven by egos. Softbank is willing to invest more, it just has to be the right vehicle. DT wants a highly profitable subsidiary. With some structural creativity and patience they can make this idea work.

Verizon gobbled up a lot of high band spectrum earlier this year. AT & T also added some.

T-Mobile seems to have WV in its sights. Some Shentel tower hands I talked to gave their T-Mobile work to some sub contractors. I later talked to some for T-Mobile who said they were on site 5 of 6. They would not comment on 600Mhz.
