  1. I think a lot of people that writes these articles are failing to realize that NV 1.0 is substantially complete. Which was the bulk of the work and spending. Now as sprint goes back and activate 800mhz services and 8t8r the cost to upgrade sites are a lot lower since cell sites has the new base station gear which is supposed to save Sprint money anyways being that the equipment is new and modernized.

  2. In New Mexico, sites VZW took over from Alltel have two legacy panels and one new LTE panel. Original VZW sites only had one of each. I don't know if VZW took over Alltel in your area, but this may be the case. Otherwise, they may need more CDMA carriers than one legacy panel can handle.

I believe that VZW took over alltel here too. Also do you know if VZW LTE panels are multimodal? I'm in a xLTE market but none of the equipment has been changed out.

  3. I haven't spotted any more 8t8r installs. I have been seeing that Verizon as been adding new sites, redoing their racks to support more weight, and adding LTE panels to sites that was legacy only.

My question to the folks that has Verizon knowledge. How come some sites have 2 legacy panels (1x and EVDO) and a LTE panel and some sites have 1 legacy panel (in which I assume its for 1x) and a LTE panel?

  4. I would say it has to GMO due to the size of the antenna mounting section. The top is a 36" diameter / 6 silo pole. Sprint would need to lease an additional silo to mount the RRU's in if they would fit.

Not sure why it's so close to the other two tower sites, but there is a gap in coverage between there and the Parkridge tower.

Knightboxx to Old Jennings is bad, Especially if you go into WinnDixie right there.

I wonder if they are only going to install B25/B26 with a single RFS antenna for each sector as there doesn't appear to be room for a B41 antenna in the same space. Unless they are leasing another silo for that antenna as well.

Hopefully, Sprint will add a site on the tower on Knightboxx they have permits for it. If they go through with it Clay County will be completely filled in except for County Road 218 between Henley Road and the Ravines subdivision.

  5. Anybody got any good case recommendations for this beast (iPhone 6+)? I prefer going nakey, but I keep feeling like I'm gonna drop this beastly thing.

Spigen makes some nice cases. I personally like the Neo Hybrid Series. Protective and doesn't add much bulk at all.

  6. That's the perception that I can't wait for Sprint to change. In my experience, T-Mo has gotten more of the ghetto trash lately, which is great.

I agree with you. Even most ghetto people I know doesn't use Sprint or any of its prepaid brands. Just MetroPCS and T-Mobile.

  7. Interesting. This tower isn't on the Jacksonville Sponsor Map. The Site ID is JA75XC004-A.

For those interested, you can look at the plans on the Clay Building Permit site.

    http://www.claycountygov.com/services-we-provide/public-records-search-1/building

Type in address of 3364 OLD JENNINGS RD

The first set of plans (13 pages - permit 10050571) are the site plans from the original owner Wireless Towers.

The second set of plans (12 pages - permit 10100143) are the Sprint/Nextel plans by KCI Technologies.

There are structural plans and other items as well.

The tower changed ownership to SBA Towers in 2011 just after being built.

The tower applied for FCC license, but it was terminated after not being required

I wonder if this site is a full build Ground Mount Radio site. With the amount of sites in the area it was probably put there for capacity.

  8. The company that owns it primarily leases their towers to Sprint.

Last year I had a person on the engineering side mention that was going to be a Sprint tower, and the escalation customer service has also mentioned it.

That tower is around 1 mile from my house and it would help fill in the signal holes there.

I drove past there again this afternoon. The crew is still there but they've installed a new base station with ground mount RRUs. I can't tell what type of equipment it is and the panels are hidden.

EDIT: I guess it is a Sprint site.

  9. I don't think the tower I'm closest to, and use the most, is broadcasting B41. But I did ride around the OP/NAS JAX area and picked up some B41 connections. What areas have you caught B41?

Downtown is blanketed in b41. Blanding in OP is covered from the mall down to Kingsley. Roosevelt near i10 and near the Publix near San Juan. Jax beaches is covered pretty good.

  10. frequency scan shows no signal being broadcast. it appears like tybo indicated that they are waiting to fire up the new 8t8r all at once. it's gonna be nice when those turn on. I'm on the road (in Valdosta now) and wasn't sure which clear tower I saw near 295.

How's the coverage on the road? Last time I went to Valdosta I had LTE until I hit i75 then I roamed for about 10 miles. Then when I got to Valdosta I connected to LTE and got my first dose of 1x 800 before it was live in Jax.

  11. I'm new to this Band 41 stuff so that's why I'm asking. If I'm getting B41, what equipment is being used to broadcast it?

Its OK I didn't get band 41 for a while on my N5 waiting on the firmware update for tri-band to work correctly. You can ask all the questions you want that's why we are here. If you are connecting to band 41 most likely its clear b41. I have yet to connect to sprint b41 and I drive past 3 known sprint installs daily.

  12. Awesome. This normandy/fouraker tower is the one I use the most. I just drove to other sites on the OP/NAS JAX area and was able to catch B41. But this tower normandy is suppose to be a colocation clear site and I'm not seeing any B41 from it, but everywhere else. Lemme know what you find. But even if the 8t8r equip isn't active yet, shouldn't the site still be broadcasting B41 on the old clear equip?

All the colocated sites I've seen with Sprint b41 is not broadcasting band 41 on clear gear.

  13. Can you link me to the thread on what ours are going to look like. I guess I could start checking around.

What I do is pay attention to known network vision sites. Most sites here in Jacksonville has the legacy panels removed and only has the 1 NV panel with RRUs. Whenever a second panel is added its the Sprint band 41. Shorter panel than the NV panel with 1 RRU behind it.
