  1. I agree its a huge advantage. It allows people on AT&T to test out the Tmobile network with minimal investment. Unhappy with AT&T? Pop in the Tmobile $30 walmart plan for a month to see if the coverage is good enough or not. As Sprint tries to direct people to BYOD or easy pay, does it make sense, or is it even possible, to welcome in Verizon branded phones that are compatible with the network?
  2. I thought Gordon was dead... Just saw a commercial with him, the family, and the hamster, but it was advertising HD Calling rather than Framily. Maybe it's been airing for awhile, but it was the first time I saw it.
  3. Excellent Well phones of even the same standard rectangle design + bezel vary wildly in how well they survive a drop. I believe it was the Nexus 4 that would crack if a slight breeze blew into the room. Of course they addressed that with the Nexus 5. The lack of bezel makes me assume it will be more susceptible to cracks than your standard phone, but the question is how much so. I think surviving a 4 foot drop on carpet would be important, because in my person experience whenever I drop my phone it's always by my bed. I'm sure a reiew site will do all those drop tests. It will help me decide if I should recommend him to get this phone, or pay more for the nexus 5.
  4. Is there a rumored or predicted launch window for this phone? As long as it does well in drop tests, it looks perfect for my dad. The price is fantastic.
  5. Thats surprising. Does it mean too many people were trying it and not liking the service. Absolutely not true. My mom jumped out of Sprint last month into that plan. She never used more than 500mb a month, so now shes saving money and getting actual phone service. I was the one that got her into Sprint originally, but since Sprint hasnt managed to give Fresno NV 1.0, never mind LTE, she had enough.
  6. Yup, Im on that same plan because Framily would have been a price hike for us. I'd love to see Sprint throw in some of the fun tmobile stuff like free international texting. And maybe the new CEO, due to his personal background, will look at the rates Sprint charges for calls in/to Latin America and take a machete to them.
  7. Well hes saying exactly what Ive been saying Sprint should be saying... I always said that "pardon our dust" should have been followed with "heres $10 off for your understanding."
  8. Have they gotten better at giving them away?
  9. Does buying a Nexus 5 from the play store still require an annoying process to get a sim card, or has the process been made simple?
  10. Isnt 41 a big deal in other countries? Even if Sprint alone isnt enough to convnince Apple, surely the global market is
  11. That may be true (I dont know), but theyre still cheaper today than the long-standing competitors, and they are of similar quality. However, as Robert pointed out, it's not the same, aside from the fact that disruptive entrants into an industryr esult in lower prices.
  12. Nah Im looking for new but off contract. I see the Galaxy Epic wimax is still going for $250 new
  13. It just seems to good to be true. That was a one-off deal? I ask because my dad needs a new phone, and my sister used his upgrade. Hes using a Moto Photon - Wimax. I was thinking Nexus 5 but Im worried the new one will be out in 2 months.
  14. Uh what? Vizeio is a high quality brand that brought low prixes with good products. Read their reviews.. Dodgy? Please. Youve just destroyed your point. Vizio came in and proved that they could make a good profit with low prices and high quality. It was a huge gain for the consumer. I think theyre now #1 or #2 TV seller in the US.
  15. No, the average american does not travel. The average american spends most of their life within 20 miles of their home. What the coverage is like in bumbleville Alabama is of no significance to someone living in Kansas. What the network is like 40 miles out of NYC doesnt matter to Mr. Brooklyn. And when they do travel, they go to LA, NYC or Orlando. Tmobile has a weak rural network. Everyone knows that. The fact that theyre doing so well is because for most people, it doesnt matter. Mind you, Im on Sprint precisely because a large (roaming) network DOES matter to me. It also matters to people like Robert, who travel for work all the time. So theres certainly value in having an expansive network. That doesnt mean you cant be very successful NOT serving that market. I always thought those Verizon 4G network map ads were ridiculous. You want maps that matter to people? Show and compare coverage in their home and work area codes. A half acre dead spot by my favorite lunch deli is a problem. 100,000 acres of dead spot in west virginia are of no significance to me.
  16. RE: Stocks Im not sure if its a good time to jump in guys. Sprint was really overvalued because of the merger talk. The current price is still above where they were 2-3 years ago. The analysts expect that Sprint needs to fight back with pricing. I agree, Ive said Framily was a ripoff since day 1. Right now, Sprint is the most expensive provider in many configurations, but is not providing the best network. So lets say Sprint opens next week with new lower prices. Great for us. Not great for stock. Disclaimer: I'm not a financial specialist at all.
  17. I have no opinions on Hesse but Im very glad this merger is over. Honestly, I dont know how they thought they could get past the feds. Its obvious to everyone that the tmobile gimmicks have done more to improve the wireless industry than anything else in the past 5 years. I dont care if you think its an unsustainable business practice, you hate their CEO, or you dislike the color; for the consumer, it's been golden. Lower prices, new options and (gasp) competition rather than collusion. A merger would have killed that.
  18. Hm, well it was my first time hearing it, and I talk to my family weekly, and theyre on Sprint (same family plan!). This call essentially sounded like a Skype call to me. I even asked if she was using a headset or anything different.
