  1. I agree with a lot of the sentiment behind the true 4G comments. However, IMHO, the standard the ITU requiring a 10x increase in theoretical speeds for each subsequent generation is a little ridiculous. I think now with the really high speeds we are starting to get, it is unreasonable to expect a 10x jump in speeds. I think a tripling of speeds, or maybe quadrupling would be sufficient to mark the next "G." But to me, no matter how you slice it, HSPA+ is 3G. Now, dual carrier HSPA+ could be considered a 4G technology by a tripling standard. Robert
  2. Pardon my poor choice of words to describe a difficult situation. My word selection was partly caused for the need of brevity in reply on my part and partly due to ignorance. Thank you for the clear explanation and the very easy to understand analogy. Robert

  4. Bummer. But thanks for the update!!! Robert
  5. I also got my EVO LTE overnight. Robert
  6. It would only be a very general guideline. AJ recently posted that Nextel iDEN 800 produced a pretty poor signal and could not be useful as far of a distance as CDMA on 800 will. Additionally, Sprint CDMA 800 (and ultimately LTE 800) will have RRU's which will also have greater signal gain. Robert
  7. I was hoping this was evidence of the blockade had been broken.
  8. I know of no resource now that shows Nextel sites. Robert
  9. Sprint will not broadcast 800MHz from Nextel towers, but rather from Sprint towers. But hopefully you will still get coverage from the 800 on the nearest Sprint site. Robert
  10. Network Vision 3G signals will travel up to 20% farther than legacy 3G signals. The reason is Sprint is using RRU's, which are remote radios right behind the antenna panels. How much will actually be noticed at a site varies from location to location. In some cases, the coverage distance may increase up to 20%. However, every antenna panel has downtilt. If the downtilt is at a rather steep angle, then there will be virtually no increase in coverage from that site. However, the signal within the coverage area will get up to 20% stronger. No matter how you slice it, Network Vision will be bring more coverage area and stronger signals. How much stronger is highy variable based on where you are at. Robert
  11. There are lots of reports of eHRPD going live well in advance of LTE in many markets. eHRPD needs to be completely deployed on all the sites around a live LTE site for it to work correctly. So they are typically bringing up eHRPD over a whole market before even the first LTE sites start going live. If Shentel is so close to going live with LTE around Harrisburg, their eHRPD either needs to be up now or very soon. It would also help serve as validation of the info. Robert
  12. I have a couple of big issues with this article. They are so bad, that it throws everything they did into question. Here is Quote #1: Are they serious? Sprint is spending a billion dollars on 3G enhancements ahead of Network Vision. That's what network.sprint.com tracks. Also, Network Vision has billions of dollars in 3G enhancements, including DO Advanced. They should have called me for a quote. It's true they abandoned WiMax, but not 3G. This is journalistic malfeasance. Here is Quote #2: What? They criticize Sprint's slow 3G speeds with 1.4Mbps and 1.69Mbps download speeds? What? Those are great 3G speeds. And those are screaming 3G speeds compared to most urban/suburban locations on the Sprint network. If we all could get that, none of us would be complaining. Those are even good speeds on VZW 3G. It's obvious that if they post things like this, they put no value in trying to investigate the issues they are reporting about the EVO LTE. No credibility in my book. The way they "scientifically" tested the devices is so poor, that they should not have written an article about it. Did they verify if the EVO LTE was changing towers? That would be the most likely reason for changes in signal strength, not antenna issues. Although I wouldn't rule out issues with the new EVO, but there is no way I would conclude there is based on this piss poor article. Sorry to rant, but I have major heartburn with the piece. Robert
  13. Thanks Roy. We need a certain percentage of new members to become sponsors to keep paying for our growing expense curve. So as much as we don't want for people to bypass sponsorship and get free info, we also don't want to piss off newcomers. I also do appreciate the sense of humor. It also enhances the board and makes the established members feel a part of the community. We just need to try to incorporate all three of these aspects in our posts. I appreciate everyone's help here to maintain the right tone. Robert

  18. *sigh* You guys can't start picking on every new person who comes along asking a question about LTE. We have a thread where we keep track of market schedules. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/212-network-visionlte-deployment-running-list/ We have a jovial crew here. They can be a little enthusiastic in the way they greet new people. Robert via Galaxy Nexus using Forum Runner

  20. If that is the scope of the LTE Connectivity issue, then that doesn't sound like a big deal. Hopefully an OTA will fix it. And that isn't any reason to hold up opening up the LTE network, IMHO. Robert
  21. It may be faster, but the 4G icon on the GNex is much sexier. Robert
  22. These guys are doomed. I'm sure Apple is patenting the idea right now. Just the idea, mind you. Details of how to do it can be filed later. Robert
  23. The transmit on a device is already pretty weak...hand placement over the antenna may be able to reduce it enough to slow it down. Robert
