  1. I have no insight, nor 4G. Only... Khlav Kalash!
  2. I do not have signal issues with my Galaxy S-III, nor do I roam anywhere that I didn't before. I keep my NFC on. It seems more likely roaming issues are more likely related to Network Vision work than it is the device. Robert

  4. by Robert Herron Sprint 4G Rollout Updates Thursday, July 5, 2012 - 4:49 PM MDT The next market in our Network Vision/LTE deployment schedule update series is...Southern Connecticut. The Southern Connecticut market has yet to be announced by Sprint, and may not be announced until as late as this Fall. The Sprint Southern Connecticut market encompasses Fairfield, New Haven and Litchfield counties. This includes the cities of Bridgeport, New Haven, Stamford, Norwalk, Greenwich, Danbury, Hamden, Trumbull, Waterbury, Meriden and Torrington. Sprint's Network Vision OEM Alcatel/Lucent is scheduled to begin mobilizing their subcontractors around the market in September. The first completed Network Vision sites are scheduled to start coming online in October. Anticipated Sites Complete at Market Launch. According to the Network Vision schedules that S4GRU has reviewed, if Sprint launched the market in January, these are the anticipated sites that would likely have LTE complete at that time. This would provide fairly good LTE coverage over many parts of the market. Schedule details and the bottom line Sprint has not selected a date to formally "launch" LTE service in Southern Connecticut, yet. It is difficult to try to pick a date now this far out, but we will try. In looking at the schedule as of today, it would indicate a January - February market launch (going on a 40% - 50% completion for launch). But there is no way to know if AlcaLu and their subcontractors will actually hit their schedule dates this early in the deployment for this market. We will be able to gauge better after a few months of production. Alcatel/Lucent needs to hit a production rate of only 25 sites per month to stay on schedule. This is a really low amount compared to most other markets. There is no reason why they should not be able to complete the market on time, and there is a good chance that they may even be able to get ahead of scheule. S4GRU has examined the schedule in great detail in this market and sees that most of the sites will be complete by July 2013. However, there may be a few sporadic sites that will linger past the completion. Photo of Stamford provided courtesy of Wikimedia Commons. 5. Well, I sound stupid when you say it!!! Robert
  6. If Adam RICHMAN says it, well then damn, I guess I've been out played. Robert
  7. It is quite neat to have so many devices all at once. I don't think it's a problem though. I can quit at any time. Really!!! I took the Photon with me to work today. This phone is actually pretty neat. I'm not sure why I'm always bashing on Moto devices. Robert
  8. Mogul Mouse (it's the name of a ski store in Reno, Nevada)
  9. No. I'm not going to expand at this time. I am considering an article about it. However, on another note, we are starting work on a radio performance article that compares signal on 9 different Sprint devices in several different scenarios. You will be able to compare the EVO LTE with 8 other Sprint devices. Robert

  12. Sounds like in building DAS. Thanks for the info! Robert

  14. by Robert Herron Sprint 4G Rollout Updates Thursday, July 5, 2012 - 12:26 PM MDT The next market in our Network Vision/LTE deployment schedule update series is...Northern Jersey. The Northern Jersey market has yet to be announced by Sprint, and may not be announced until as late as this Fall. The Sprint Northern Jersey market encompasses Hudson, Essex, Bergen, Union, Passaic, Morris, Warren and Sussex counties. This includes such communities as Newark, Jersey City, Union City, Bayonne, Elizabeth, Clifton, Passaic, Paterson, Hackensack, Teterboro, Paramus and distant Phillipsburg over on the Pennsylvania border. Sprint's Network Vision OEM Alcatel/Lucent is scheduled to begin mobilizing their subcontractors around the market in October. The first completed Network Vision sites are scheduled to start coming online in November. Anticipated Sites Complete at Market Launch. According to the Network Vision schedules that S4GRU has reviewed, if Sprint launched the market in January, these are the anticipated sites that would likely have LTE complete at that time. This would provide fairly good LTE coverage over many parts of the market. Schedule details and the bottom line Sprint has not selected a date to formally "launch" LTE service in Northern Jersey, yet. It is difficult to try to pick a date now this far out, but we will attempt to do just that. In looking at the schedule as of today, it would indicate a January market launch (going on a 40% - 50% completion for launch). But there is no way to know if AlcaLu and their subcontractors will actually hit their schedule dates this early in the deployment for this market. We will be able to gauge better after a few months of production. Alcatel/Lucent needs to hit a production rate of approximately 50 sites per month to stay on schedule. This market shouldn't have problems staying on time as 50 sites per month is a steady rate that can be achieved with proper planning. S4GRU has examined the schedule in great detail in this market and sees that most of the sites will be complete by August 2013. However, there may be a few sporadic sites that will linger past the completion. Photo of the Statue of Liberty and the Jersey City skyline provided courtesy of Wikimedia Commons. GPS on S3

GPS on the E4GT was fair, and got even better with radio updates over time. The GPS on the Galaxy Nexus was good in my observations, an improvement over the E4GT. However, the GS-III GPS so far has been very, very good. Robert
  16. Yeah, but that doesn't mean anything. This is the Sprint Campus. They can have Ericsson upgrade it any time they want. Also, our NV Sites map hasn't been updated since June 24th. Robert
  17. When you say in the Sprint Campus, you mean in the Sprint Campus. It must be DAS with LTE, around the whole campus. Do you get it everywhere around the campus? Robert
  18. It is my understanding that everything is being deployed now for one CDMA 800 carrier in Network Vision. However, 800 service has its own radio behind the panels. And in some deployment pictures, there are clearly two radios per panel and some clearly only show one. I think the ones with only one are not ready for 800 service, at least not with the RRU's. I imagine it's possible to start shutting down iDEN sooner if there is no one using it. However, officially, Sprint has said they will turn off the entire iDEN network on June 30, 2013. And everything I have seen behind the scenes supports that date. No move up yet. Also, everything I have seen doesn't have LTE 800 work beginning until the 2nd Half of 2013. Even if the iDEN network is decommissioned earlier than 6/30/2013, Sprint may not be able to accelerate LTE 800 to be sooner at that time as the schedule may be too well defined by the point they decide to pull the plug earlier. Also, since the device ecosystem for LTE 800 will not be ready until probably some time in 2013, there is no sense of urgency to speed up LTE 800 deployment at this time. Right now, there are so many variabilities, it can still go any way. LTE 800 FIT's are supposed to begin some time this Fall/Winter in the New Orleans market, and some secret location in Montana.
