  4. eHRPD is 3G EVDO that runs data through the LTE core instead of the 3G switch. It allows data to seamlessly hand off between LTE and 3G on a CDMA network. eHRPD must be installed and active in advance of LTE. So it means that LTE is coming, but not an indicator of how soon. Some places eHRPD goes live months in advance. And other places just days. Robert
  5. I don't think so. I'm not sure what the issue was. And I don't even remember how I fixed it. I could set up my second router as a slave to my main router if I plugged directly into it without any problems. Also, I could plug a computer directly into the Powerline Ethernet adapter anywhere in the house and it would work full speed, no issues. But if I plugged the secondary router into the Powerline Ethernet adapter, no bueno. I spent 8 hours searching the internet and finally found a solution. I just don't remember what it is. Robert
  6. I have a set up like this in my home. It was a huge pain to get set up. But works great. Robert
  7. Alexandria is in the Sprint Dakotas market and not in the Minnesota market. Basically, everything west of Sauk Centre is in the Dakotas market. Samsung will not begin Network Vision/LTE deployment in this market until 2013. Detailed schedules for 2013 markets will not begin until some time this Fall. There are some stop gap upgrades that are being done in advance of Network Vision/LTE upgrades to improve 3G performance in the interim. These are shown at network.sprint.com. These are the upgrades that the Sprint reps are talking about. Not Network Vision. Robert
  8. You have to set up the new account, get your $10, then you can call and have funds moved from your old account to your new device. You are unable to just move from one device to another without a new account set up on the new device. You have to have two accounts and transfer into the new one...at least according to the rep I talked with today. At least this way you get the benefit of the $10 bonus for each account. Robert
  9. Yes. I have a feeling you will continue to be jaded about LTE in the VI until the 4G icon appears on your device. Can't blame ya. Robert
  10. ES: Muchos de los clientes en PR se va a enojar acerca de este articulo. LTE no estara disponible muy pronto. Se sigue trabajando. EN: I think most customers in Puerto Rico are going to be pissed about this latest article. LTE is not coming very quickly. But work still progresses on. Robert

  12. No. LightSquared only initially planned to offer service over the Sprint footprint. There were discussions about long term expansion that Sprint was open to. However, those would have been funded by LightSqaured pumping in Billions of dollars to Sprint in hosting fees. But there would not have been expansion before 2015. Robert
  13. I suppose. The biggest difference is that Clearwire only covers 70 cities and Sprint covers over 1,000. But I guess there are similarities. Robert
  14. This is a nonsensical argument. Sprint will only add service where they spend more in roaming fees to other carriers than they would if they just installed service themselves. Sprint is not in a pecker contest to see who's is bigger. They are not trying to have the biggest network. Sprint is in no position to add service anywhere right now. They are losing money. And riasing roaming limits has a direct impact on increasing roaming fees. That's not going to happen. Sprint also does not move customers over to roaming because the network is slow. Sprint customers only roam when they do not have Sprint coverage. Sprint will not be adding any significant native coverage before the conclusion of Network Vision with additional sites. They cannot afford to. The only additional sites you can expect are ones that pay for themselves because of roaming fees are excessive in the area. No large U.S. carrier is actively expanding coverage now. It has been a long time since they have. AT&T and VZW only really expand coverage by buying out carriers. Robert
  15. You could buy a used Epic 4G Touch or Moto Photon to tie you over a few months until Sprint LTE becomes ubiquitous in the areas you frequent. I bought a Photon for under $175 recently. I think the E4GT is much less expensive than that. I don't think I would switch to a LTE device in the Chicago area right now if I was dependent on WiMax for my sanity, as it sounds like you are. As for AT&T and Verizon. Meh. AT&T only has 5x5 LTE in Chicago, but doesn't have the site density that Sprint has and they also have double the customers. This is not good for the long term. Verizon only has their one 10x10 carrier. I predict they will have a short term capacity problem soon in very dense areas (like Chicago) before they start actively deploying LTE on AWS. But they have yet to even release devices that run on AWS nor complete AWS LTE deployment plans. This will not start to occur until 2014 most likely. I think Sprint is a good bet for LTE, especially considering the cost and unlimited. It is going to be painful for a few more months in Chicago. But if you got into a new 2 year contract with ATT or VZW, you would be mad when Sprint gets LTE going in your area only a few months into your contract. I would definitely ride it out if I was in your shoes. But then again, I am a Sprint blogger. Dan Hesse could bitch slap me and I'd thank him for the privilege. Not really... Robert
  16. Why would they spend $60 Million (to use CS's numbers) in redundant coverage in the area, when they already have a mutually beneficial relationship with C Spire, including the possibility of LTE roaming? Also, C Spire would not welcome a competitor setting up shop all over their service area. C Spire and Sprint would have a completely different relationship if Sprint wanted to set up service side by side as a direct threat/competitor. This does not make sense at all. Sprint wants to Network Host for other companies who need a fast deployed nation wide network. They are not looking for someone to regionally host them. This is so far out of bounds for their plans. It's not even on the radar. Robert

  18. To clarify, most of the 3G issues are not spectrum deficiencies as they are backhaul deficiencies. Sprint is not exactly rolling in spectrum in Chicago, but only in some very acutely burdened cells have they used up all their spectrum. When Sprint deploys Network Vision backhaul over its redone 3G sites, this should fix most of the 3G problems currently occurring in the market. The schedule of deployment is so complex, that I cannot answer whether a specific area is actively receiving deployment around now. What I can say is that they are definitely working their way in. They are largely finished with exurbs, wrapping up the outer suburbs and now should be starting the inner suburbs and soon the Loop. Robert
