Network Vision/LTE - South Texas Market (Corpus Christi/Laredo/Rio Grande Valley)

The two towers to keep an eye on are located behind Seashore Learning and the other is just north of the 361 turn to Port A.

I am anxiously awaiting the full rollout of LTE on the island.

I did see a bucket truck at the tower behind the Seashore Learning Center this morning.

As for the LTE in Corpus Christi, I have been utterly unimpressed.

It seems to overload, then I get speeds of .01 mbps.

Do we just have too many sprint users on our network?

Good News and Bad News.

Cricket uses Sprint currently, and is moving to ATT

But

Clear is moving to Sprint.

I do not know how that will affect our speeds.

I enjoy this forum.

I hear you. I was at Cabaniss Field last night and on 4G and I was getting 0.4mbps. I power cycled my phone then started receiving 4-5mbps. Not sure what was causing that. Anyhow, I find myself getting frustrated when I'm indoors near a tower I know is broadcasting LTE and the phone is on 3G. Very discouraged at this point but I'm holding out hope that once all the towers are 4G the propagation will help.

LTE performance is signal strength dependent. If you have a weak LTE signal, you will have reduced performance. This is true of all LTE carriers. Most Android phones mis-state their signal strength and only show the voice signal. So many people mistakenly think they have a great LTE signal when they don't. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/2040-bars-lie-for-lte-signal-strength-how-to-determine-your-actual-lte-signal-strength/

Well the tower near Sea Pines on N Padre Island is getting its upgrade right now. Big crane over there lifting up shiny new 4G equipment. Voice and data are spotty at the moment as they complete the upgrades, but our LTE upgrade is finally underway! The other tower near 361 is next, supposedly.

I'm still showing 3G but as soon as it lights up I will post here. Anyone else seeing 4G yet on the island?

Just had 4g at the edinburgs children hospital

I guess it's finally making it's way into Edinburg!

I spoke to a Sprint tech last week and she told me that 4G should be about 100% live everywhere by the end of the year. Let's see how true that is.

I drove right by it and did not see 4G. Even rebooted the phone. They may be doing more work on some of the towers here, I usually pick up 4G somewhere in the bluff but did not see any until I got closer to Rodd Field. And I couldn't get data to work on 3G near Waldron.

Finally getting 4G on the island!!!! Seemed to turn on last night as I pulled out my phone to pull up a youtube vid and it started playing immediately -- that has never happened before on sprint here LOL...... I am getting a good LTE signal outside my house, and even a decent signal inside if I turn wifi off....

Only one of the two island towers are showing 4G though, and I am a little closer to the one that is not yet lit up with LTE, so I think it may even get better when the other tower upgrade (the one near 361/SPID) is complete.

Speeds are good but not great. Getting 4-7mbps down and 3-5 up. Hopefully they ramp it up a bit. But for now, I am actually pleased with Sprint for once. Hopefully the LTE signal/speeds are more consistent than the 3G was....

Finally should be able to get my moneys worth from my cheap skate $35 Virgin mobile plan LOL.....

This weekend I caught some decent LTE coverage on 10th street in McAllen. Speeds and strength varied a whole lot as I drove down 10th, but from Dove down to around Business 83 things were pretty solid. Screenshots are both from the same location (Lone Star BBQ, about half a block south of Nolana.)

I've also been able to get an LTE signal south of Business 83 over the past couple of weeks, but never with working data.

Dave,

The map shows the other tower on the Island was upgraded to LTE. You may start seeing some LTE speeds all over the island very soon, if not now.

  • 2 weeks later...

I know:/ how is the rollout for edinburg? I have not had one 4g signal in all of edinburg yet except for the childrens hospital (which I pass through there all the time and only that one time I had 4g). The wait is really killing me....

Two sites "in progress" in Edinburg are at 1) UT Pan Am and 2) N McColl/W Schunior
