Finally getting 4G on the island!!!! Seemed to turn on last night as I pulled out my phone to pull up a youtube vid and it started playing immediately -- that has never happened before on sprint here LOL...... I am getting a good LTE signal outside my house, and even a decent signal inside if I turn wifi off.... Only one of the two island towers are showing 4G though, and I am a little closer to the one that is not yet lit up with LTE, so I think it may even get better when the other tower upgrade (the one near 361/SPID) is complete. Speeds are good but not great. Getting 4-7mbps down and 3-5 up. Hopefully they ramp it up a bit. But for now, I am actually pleased with Sprint for once. Hopefully the LTE signal/speeds are more consistent than the 3G was.... Finally should be able to get my moneys worth from my cheap skate $35 Virgin mobile plan LOL..... -Dave

I drove right by it and did not see 4G. Even rebooted the phone. They may be doing more work on some of the towers here, I usually pick up 4G somewhere in the bluff but did not see any until I got closer to Rodd Field. And I couldn't get data to work on 3G near Waldron. -Dave

Well the tower near Sea Pines on N Padre Island is getting its upgrade right now. Big crane over there lifting up shiny new 4G equipment. Voice and data are spotty at the moment as they complete the upgrades, but our LTE upgrade is finally underway! The other tower near 361 is next, supposedly. I'm still showing 3G but as soon as it lights up I will post here. Anyone else seeing 4G yet on the island? -Dave

Yes, there are two on the island on that map. I only knew about the first one. I will keep an eye on both. I'm not very good at tower spotting but if it would help I could take some pictures of them? I'm literally right around the corner from both. I was looking at the NV Sites Complete map, which explains why they weren't listed. Hopefully they are going to light up soon! thanks for this site. I was really close to jumping ship before I found this and saw that the upgrade is imminent. -Dave

Thanks. I checked the NV sites google maps here and it shows most of the other CC tower sites, including quite a few lit up with LTE, but doesn't show the one on the island at all. The network.sprint.com site does show one here and says it recently got a data speed upgrade. I'm assuming just because the NV map from S4gru doesn't show a tower doesn't necessarily mean that its not scheduled for an update, just that data isn't available? I drove around the island with sensorly and logged that 4G is only available from the tower(s) on the mainland, so it fades as you get close to the bridge. I think I know which tower it is (there are two right next to each other), I will keep an eye on it daily when I drive by.... I would not want to be up there when we have our usual 30knot spring breeze ;-) Thanks. -Dave

Does anyone know if/when the tower on North Padre Island in corpus (78418) will be bumped up to LTE? I am ready to ditch this slow 3G..... I can see LTE signals down SPID through flour bluff but it falls off when I hit the causeway. I'm not sure data is fully activated on those LTE sites though as I am not seeing any speeds faster than 3G and occasionally I can't get any data over 4G. Seems to be sporadically working further in town though. I just sent a paypal donation so I'm sure I can probably answer my own question soon but I'm curious if anyone else lives out here that can share some intel. Thanks! -Dave
