Looks like China Mobile is seeking for a stake in the United States. Can it be Clearwire?

Interesting.

If they buyout Clearwire's shares(and the soon to next cable operators), this would really help both Sprint and China Mobile. I do see, however, if this does happen, Clearwire's network will have to remain separate from the NV tower architecture to avoid any problems from the DoD, since they see any Chinese company with direct access to a major U.S. telecom network as a threat to national security.

 

Overall, Sprint would no longer have to worry about keeping Clearwire afloat and the expansion of the TD-LTE network throughout Clearwire's footprint. However, this will bring competition to Sprint's front door.

If German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom can serve T-Mobile in the United States, I believe China Mobile can make it happen in the United States also.

There was a time when United States didn't like Germany during World War II, and now they are accepted to have a business in the United States. It is possible that China can change in the future.

The fed's don't see it that way. Thus Sprint was(for the most part) forced to decline Huawei and ZTE's Network Vision bids.

It might work out for Clearwire as they use Chinese Vendors to supply most of their equipment.

So does many smaller carriers. I don't see China Mobile getting too much trouble buying into Clearwire.

Their goal is to promote TDD LTE which Clearwire is planning to use, and Clearwire really needs the funding.

I just do not see sprint letting another carrier or outside party buying out clearwire. I think sprint would reject any bid that anyone would have. They need that spectrum for capacity, but probably do not want to look like they have a huge spectrum holding for future spectrum auctions.

If it ever came to a shareholder vote to sell out to China, I would vote a resounding NO! And yes, I do hold a few shares of Clearwire.

Deutsch Telekom is NOT making it work.. They have been trying to unload T-Mobile for the last year.

Actually, i heard rumblings about 4 or 5 years ago about T-Mobile. It just took until last year to put a deal together.

I think buying clear would be smarter. If they bought clear, they would not need spectrum for a long while.

I doubt the DoJ would block sprint buying clear. They have no reason. No loss of carriers and sprint has always been one of the better networks when it comes to wholesaling. The only problem I see is the FCC wanting them to sell some of the spectrum, so they do not hog it like att/Verizon. Or blocking sprint in future auctions.

 

Sprint could keep the PCS spectrum and divest the AWS, or the other way around. And I don't think they would be blocked from future auctions if they abide by the rules.

Exactly. Outright ownership of Clear's spectrum would preclude Sprint from ever being able to jump on the "spectrum crisis" bandwagon that ATT and Verizon are whining about. All the whining and padding of Senator's pockets (John Kerry is now a Lightsquared fan?) will eventually pay off for them. I don't want Sprint to be stuck out on an island with its "new spectrum" being cost prohibitive to expand with.
