el1117
Several years ago, Nextel built a tower about a mile from my house. I assume it carries Sprint now, but there has been a few ownership changes and I cannot determine for sure. Can anyone help with identifying which carrier is on this tower? I am really curious to know the probability (if it is currently Sprint) of them switching it over to Spring 3G/4G from Nextel. Of all the websites to look up tower info, I cannot find any clues as to which carrier is on this tower. Thanks for your help! Here is the tower info: Antenna Structure Structure Type: Free standing or guyed structure Location Latitude / Longitude: 39.909000 / -84.668000 Street: 2236 Holtzmuller Rd. el1117
It is not listed on the interactive maps. Hence, the reason for my post. I cannot find any info anywhere online for it. I'll try to stop by tomorrow and take a few pics.

The building at the base is a brown and tan rectangular building. nyman, how did you conclude it is definitely a Sprint tower?
el1117
Here are the pics of the tower, building and sign on the fence. Sorry for the poor quality of the pics of the antenna. My GS3 is all I had with me to take pics. So....is this an old Nextel tower that will be converted to Sprint 4G? If so, how do you tell? Any information about this tower would be GREATLY appreciated!!
strumgewr
Here's something I've been wondering. Why are carriers spaces so far apart on lattice towers, but so close together on monopoles? There's a 280' lattice by me, with verizon and t-mobile way lower.

There's a 280' lattice by me, with verizon and t-mobile way lower. Monopoles are usally under 100ft. everyone wants to get at the sweet spot around 60-100ft so spacing is tight., Tall towers (anything over 90ft is considered something that need a Beacon on it) Higher is not always better unless it s low density site trying cover large distances

Looking at the original regional maps, this address/location is not listed as a known sprint site being upgraded. The building looks like many of the Verizon or former Nextel sites in Michigan. The picture of the antennas isn't the best, try to get a bit further away and then zoom in with an SLR. Based on the 9 antennas, my guess is a Verizon CDMA/EvDo site. I wish I had a SLR, or even access to one, but I do not.

There is a map in the premier sponsor section with all historical nextel towers. If you can bump your donation total up to that $100 mark, you'll get access to that, plus other great stuff in there. el1117
Well, my whole reason for becoming a sponsor was so I could find out info about this tower, but I can't see spending $100 to know. It's not likely that it will be converted into an NV site, there's only a small handful of sites that are being transitioned.

Now that I think about it, back in about late June there was a crew there doing some work. They replaced the lights on top. The red light and white strobe are much brighter now. I can't see it being completely taken down with that work being done. Maybe another carrier will be on it now. Who knows. What happens after that is up to the tower owner.
