LG G2 -- the first Sprint tri band LTE handset (was "LG Optimus G2")

I'm interested in getting G2, but my wife is ready to get a Note 3, I'd love a Triband phone but Sprints $100 bring a line looks to be expiring the 10th. I know I can get a waterproof case for the S4, the only thing I don't know is if the S4 has 800 LTE. Looks like LG lost out on this one.

It sucks you are put into this dilemma but the GS4 and Note 3 only have LTE 1900 support.

The only thing I am skeptical about this 10/10/13 expiration date is that Sprint has been promoting this $100 port in credit since the GS4 and HTC One have come out.  I am sure that Sprint purposely introduce expiration dates to get the customers to trigger an impulse reaction thinking that a promotion is ending soon and they must upgrade now.  I wonder if Sprint is going to extend the $100 port in credit after 10/10/13.  I highly doubt this $100 port in credit promotion started in March 2013 and had an end date of 10/10/13.  My guess is that the $100 port in credit promotion in March 2013 had an expiration date of sometime in May 2013 and then the promotion was renewed every 2 months.

I know Sprint is still dying to attract customers given the lost business of iDEN wholesale customers plus Sprint customers defecting to other carriers due to slow data speeds and voice issues.

Well the wife wants to get a smart phone and her Casio Brigade (I think thats the model) is starting to die. I'd love a Triband phone, but I could easily settle for a Biband phone (800 Mhz)

The disadvantage for me in buying a phone brand new to market is after market support for a waterproof case

I'm also looking at Wilson for a Booster that works for the 800... or if I get a single band 1900 Mhz LTE since I already have a direction antenna mounted to my roof but I think that will be a while as well.

But as long as we're sporting 800 Mhz voice and 3G, I'll be able to live!

The Note 3 and GS4 both have CDMA 800 voice so you should be all good there.  In terms of LTE 800 for the Note 3 or GS4, you are out of luck unless you get the LG G2, Nexus 5 or the other 2 Samsung triband LTE phones.

I'm tempted.. Can't decide if it's worth getting on sprint or move to tmobile... Thinking I will give them one last year. I want to know more about the Nexus 5 though too.

If you are on the fence between the LG G2 and Nexus 5, you should wait until Google announces it at their next event for Android 4.4 KitKat and Nexus 5.  Although most of the specs for the Nexus 5 have already been leaked including the shape of the phone.  I think all of us are just waiting to have it confirmed by Google.

In terms of either Sprint or Tmobile is really up to you.  Since you are planning to get a triband LTE device, it is no secret that Robert has made a trip to Colorado and has confirmed that LTE 2600 is live and is all over Colorado with his triband LTE hotspot.  Not to mention that LTE 1900 deployment is already underway and LTE 800 is ramping up deployment starting this month.

If you move to Tmobile, all they have is high band LTE (1700/2100 MHz) since they have no low band spectrum.  While Tmobile LTE might be more consistent and faster at this point in Colorado, Sprint will surpass them in speed and coverage in 2014.

I'm in a little disbelief but I really do hope that's the case. I know Robert has mentioned it so that's good. I just need to see it for myself!

Btw is Nexus 5 going to be triband? If not then I will likely preorder the G2.

Not sure about the One up.. I do get a new device each year for work but I have an Everything Plus plan so I've not done the math to see if I'd save any money yet.

If the Nexus 5 is the device we think it is, then it most certainly is tri band

I understand that you can be in disbelief.  However if you had access to the Premier Sponsor information about LTE 2600 nationwide maps, you wouldn't be saying the same thing.  Basically Robert's trip validated that the info he received about Colorado LTE 2600 was correct and he posted screenshots to prove it.

As far as we know, the Nexus 5 will be triband LTE based on the latest FCC docs with a model of D820.  However until Google officially announces that the Nexus 5 device will be coming to Sprint, this is still just speculation.  But assuming it does come to Sprint and has a model number of D820, the Nexus 5 will be triband.
