i was over by Roaring springs and I got 4g for about 5 minutes before it turned off. I tried to do a speed test but it was gone by the time I realized I was on 4g and tried to run the speed test.

EDIT: I just checked on Sensorly and my phone did report it today. http://sensorly.com/map/4G/US/USA/Sprint/lte_310sprint

If you zoom in to where Roaring springs is at you will see it.

It's happening! As I was driving home from downtown yesterday I saw Benchmark Electric working on a tower just off Emerald, next to the 184. I recognized the name of the company from the building permits linked earlier in this thread so I knew they were most likely working on one of the Sprint LTE contracts. Unfortunately my phone didn't connect to it though since it was most likely off while they worked on it.

I wrote a Tasker script a while back to alert me when LTE connects and to map it, (successfully tested in Utah last week). Still waiting for it to inform me of the good news here though.

Would you be willing to share your script? Does it require root?

While not a true "script" it gets the job done and is relatively simple. Root is not required, you just need to install Tasker (a paid app with a 7 day trial).

To set it up create a new profile called 4G Alert, then setup the trigger by selecting State > Net > Mobile Network > check 4G.

It will then ask you to select a task to perform. Create a New Task, give it a name, add an action. You have freedom to do what you want here. Since I wanted to be able to know where on the map it connected, I had it send me a text message with a link to google maps.

To do this click the + sign > Phone > Send SMS. Enter your phone number, and put this link in the message line: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=%LOC

When this runs it will attempt to grab your location from the gps and insert it where %LOC shows up so naturally you'll need to leave your GPS enabled (or you could write another action to turn it on for you).

That's the basic profile. You can add more complicated things like notifications with audio. That depends more on your comfort with Tasker.

Or.... you can install SignalCheck Pro which not only alerts you to LTE, but also monitors your signal status and alerts you to 800 1x as well!

This sounds like the perfect app for this topic. I wouldn't suggest that anyone get Tasker solely for the purpose of knowing LTE has arrived. Since I use Tasker for a host of other things it is the natural choice for the task.

On another note, it would appear that the tower I saw being upgraded is not yet LTE ready since I didn't connect on my way into work this morning. My drive on I-84 at Eagle Rd all the way to downtown via I-184 was on 3G the entire way. I now watch Sensorly daily to see the progress of LTE coverage.

Thanks everyone for the progress updates.

Tasker is a great app, I've used it before for a whole host of things, haven't lately though. Definitively a cool app if you're going to use it! But for simple LTE/1x800 tracking, SignalCheck is a no brainer :tu:

I got some more 4g data recorded today on sensorly. I got 4g right as i crossed the intersection of meridian and overland road. I am not sure how long it will take for it to show up but I hope I got a good maping. Seems like they have turned it up just south of the freeway there.

I was at the fair yesterday working and I was getting 4g all day. I also worked there last Friday and there was no 4g insight. Great progress.

Benchmark Electric was working on the Sprint tower by Allumbaugh and Fairmont yesterday afternoon:

This is the same tower I have mentioned in previous posts. Either they have a ton of work to do on that tower with multiple enhancements or they are just taking their time. In any case it's still not broadcasting 4G yet. I'm using the Sensorly app now to watch progress so hopefully my phone will catch it when that tower finally goes live.

I'm on overland and Curtis when will they be working on my area ????

They are working all over the Idaho market. Over in the Sponsor section we show maps of sites that have had equipment upgraded and which sites are live. For more info about how to become a Sponsor, check out this link: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/1195-information-about-s4gru-sponsorship-levels-and-how-to-become-a-sponsor/

My friends have told me that they got 4g at Glenwood and Chinden last night. Anyone else confirm this?

I've been tracking LTE with Sensorly on my commute from Star to BoDo, via Chinden. It was pretty consistent 4G for about a week, but not much this week. I take I-184/I-84 to Ten Mile and get 4G between Ten Mile and Robinson/Star, and Star heading north to about McMillan. I've also had spots in Nampa at CWI and near Edwards on Karcher.

I'm not sure how to post my Sensorly data, so any help would be great.

In sensorly go to Menu, Details, and look at "messages to send", it should be near zero as it uploads in the background automatically. There's an upload button on the top if you need to force an upload attempt.

  • 2 weeks later...

I haven't seen anything new in the Caldwell/Nampa/Meridian side either unfortunately. They added LTE to areas that aren't very populated. Hate to get discouraged but it seems like it's been weeks since any new spots have popped up.

    • After several months of testing, an update to SignalCheck Pro is rolling out on Google Play. It may take up to 48 hours to become available for download. Notable changes include: Added option to display site notes for NSA 5G-NR cells. Enabling this new option (Preferences > Display Settings > Show NSA 5G-NR Site Notes) will cause the app to make an "educated guess" as to what the most appropriate site note is linked to the connected NSA 5G cell, using the PCI and the device location. If it finds an existing entry that is likely to be relevant, it will display the note along with the distance from where the strongest signal from that cell was logged. While connected to NSA 5G, these notes cannot be edited; a valid NCI is required to add/edit notes and that information is not available on NSA connections.   Added option to log cells with missing/invalid PLMN (such as NSA 5G-NR cells). Users asked for the ability to log data for NSA 5G, so a new option (Preferences > Logger Settings > Log Cells with Missing PLMN) will permit this.   Added option to display LTE info above 5G-NR info. Enabling this new option (Preferences > Display Settings > Show LTE Cells Above 5G-NR Cells) shows the same information that is currently displayed, but moves the LTE information above the 5G-NR information. Other changes: Code optimizations and enhancements. Improved Android 15 compatibility. Overhauled Purchases module. Resolved force closes impacting some GSM/LTE connections. Resolved issue with improper 5G-NR PLMN display when NR/LTE PLMNs did not match. Resolved issue with improper PLMN display with single-digit MNCs. Resolved issue with incorrect 5G-NR bands displayed on some devices due to Android bug. Resolved issue with incorrect number of neighbor cells displayed when some cells were unknown. Resolved issue with missing 5G-NR data when sector display is enabled. Resolved issue with saving 5G-NR site notes when NR/LTE PLMNs did not match. Resolved issue with settings to log missing GCI/NCI/TAC/PLMN being ignored. Resolved issues with web data export function. Updated internal libraries. Updated provider database. Updated target API to Android 15. I appreciate all of your support, and a big thank you to the members of the Beta Crew that help with testing and feedback!
    • Oct security update is out.
    • Stopped by again today and the antennas are up but it isn't live just yet. If other Sprint conversions are anything to go by it'll likely take about a month for the site to go live.
    • It is an Android bug that was reportedly fixed in August 2023 but definitely has not been. I have implemented numerous workarounds in SCP to correct the NR bands the app displays. The OS ignores the possibility that many NR-ARFCNs are valid across multiple bands.. it reports the lowest NR band that is valid for the current ARFCN. In your example, channel 432530 can be n1, n65, or n66.. so the OS just (lazily) reports n1.   Awesome, thanks! I will add an n65 override also.
    • Yeah both of those instances were on my AT&T s22 ultra. Seems ro be working as intended today in latest release.
