Network Vision/LTE - Upper Central Valley Market (Sacramento, Stockton, Redding, Eureka & Reno/Lake Tahoe)

I think that unless some other Tri-band goodness makes an appearance the reworked S4 will be the one I'm waiting for... The LG G2 is tempting but the lack of a removable battery and SD slot kill it for me. The other announced Tri-band phones aren't appealing to me either...

The article goes on to say that it would be a niche product. Why would such a product be considered so? I think that it is the way of the future.

They probably said niche because hardly anybody will be able to utilize the full capabilities of a Tri-band phone anytime soon. Or maybe because most people won't know or care that there is a newer tri-band S4 coming out.

I'm showing "extended" on my phone in Elk Grove today. Can anyone confirm LTE work is being performed?

Depending on where you are I wouldn't doubt it. Plenty of issued permits all over the place.

Could be. Tower to the west have a permit issued for a while. Don't know about the stealth tower by fire poppy drive & elk grove though.

If you're referring to the evergreen tree tower, there is no work being performed there today. I didn't check the tower inside Laguna West community. I'll try to snap some pics if I see any work being done.

New tower by where I live. I went and checked it out but it didn't have the name of any carrier on it so it's mysterious on whose is it. About 400 yards west there is a new LTE tower but that one had the name AT&T on the cabinets. And about 1/4 mile East there's this new tower being built and it has the name Metro PCS on it.

Here are some pics and a screenshot from signal check pro:

So...we are getting close to the end of October, and the rumors were that we would be seeing a lot of 4g lit up this month.  Does anyone have any updated info about it being pushed back or should we be expecting a lot of activity in the next few days?

I'm getting kind of nervous that LTE service might not be conning to lathrop in the near foreseeable future. Lately I've been roaming constantly roaming in my house, which I thought was a good sign. Then I decided to call sprint and follow up about it and was told, "we do not have a date when lte services could be up but we will send you an airave for the time being". Doesn't sound so promising now does it?

Sprint will not give you any information on when LTE is coming nor do their people actually know, in fact they will just tell you anything to end the conversation because they don't actually have time-frames or dates. Your wasting your time calling them. The best information on the Sprint NV rollout is right here from this website. Just keep checking back and become a Sponsor if you want to see the NV Sites Completed/In Progress Map.

I'll donate later and it doesn't surprise me that they (customer service reps) don't even know. But what did surprise me is they blatantly offer the airave. I've asked for one before but they weren't too keen on sending one without me having to pay for it. Maybe they got the message when I put an enterprise prl on the family's phones so we could use Verizon's 3G network and started incurring a massive amount of roaming minuets and data. :)

At this point we're just in the waiting game. Hundreds of sites are physically completed and dozens are being worked on at any given time somewhere in the market. It's disappointing to see our info regarding sites going live be incorrect (so far) but nothing we can do about it now. It's up to Sprint and Ericsson network management teams to go out there and inspect sites / accept them / integrate them.

That's what I thought.  Hopefully we will wake up some morning in the next few days to a bunch of towers lit up.

Mapped some blips of LTE in Reno Downtown. Looks like they're starting the testing phase..

Ericsson? I thought Samsung did the inspections.

Haha Samsung inspecting their own equipment? There's a reason Samsung markets don't have things called donut sites or digiblur sites or 1x800  handoff issues.

Network Vision upgrades. Permits issued and work probably has begun! Take some pics.

This is labeled Generac which makes generators and stuff. I'm almost positive it's a recent addition and I know they have been messing with it. I called sprint a while back because of degrading service and they did say there's a known power issue with the tower.

If you zoom in closely on this pic https://www.dropbox.com/s/gx3acug690fsf8r/IMG_20131025_152149.jpg the end of the row have what appears to be extra cabinets when compared to google street view and a new gps antenna with the red tape. Might be worth investigating.

    • Was in Red Hook again and I swear there are more Link5G sites as there are Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T small cells combined in the entire neighborhood. It seemed like every other street I turned down had one installed. Hopefully carriers will start hopping on them soon. Seems like a lot of effort to go through for no one to use them.  — — — — — T-Mobile converted the Sprint site on top of NYU Langone Brooklyn in Sunset Park. I first mapped one sector of it back in November 2023 but I thought it was a small cell so I never pinned it but I ran into another sector today which caught me off guard. I'm unable to find a permit for the conversion so it's definitely a surprise. There's another T-Mobile site 1 block away that T-Mobile initially installed back in 2019 so I'm kinda surprised they're keeping both considering the Sprint conversion is on a much taller building and could potentially provide much better coverage to the entire area.  — — — — — The old permit expired for this site without any work being done but a new permit was just approved a few days ago for a T-Mobile site at this address. Description mentions 3 antennas with 2 RRUs per sector. My guess is they're doing something similar to what they did at 360 Furman St in Brooklyn where they broadcast Band 2/66 and n25/41 from one antenna. It's a bit of a downgrade considering the site it's replacing was a full build with Ericsson 6449s.
    • Still not seeing any ULS postings for pending T-Mobile UScellular merger in Dane county Wisconsin.
    • Came across another Crown Castle Solutions multi-tenant oDAS node in Brooklyn. Located at 40.7002286, -73.9612666. Nothing on T-Mobile or AT&T so I'm assuming these are all Verizon nodes that Crown Castle is anticipating another carrier will hop on down the line.
