The ONE, the ONLY LG Viper Ice Cream Sandwich Thread

After waiting all summer and only having the ZVD update for the Viper, which added the QuickMemo feature, it appears that LG is really testing ICS 4.0.4.

So far there have been 3 builds, all of them have been 4.0.4. Not sure why they haven't released a complete version yet, but hopefully soon. The Viper had lots of potential for a mid-range device, but the neglect from LG has really done great damage.

Just a theory:

Builds E and F were internal LG test builds builds G and H were the builds that failed certification on Sprint’s end.

Build I could be the winner.

I just completely made all of that up. Hopefully you get some ICS soon.

In other related news, the LG Lucid, Verizon's version of the 840, is getting ICS starting Friday. Maybe that means the Viper will soon get it's official ICS upgrade!

According to new rumors on the Android Central forums, it's very likely possible the Viper ICS update could begin to be pushed to user devices starting tomorrow. I will keep everyone posted, and even try to write up a review once it hits.

Over at Android Central one of the members posted a conversation with a Sprint Rep. Hopefully it's a legit conversation. They gave this individual a date of November 20th.

Today, Sprint on their community forums officially announced ICS for the LG Viper 4G LTE. Details can be found here.

LS840ZVI 11/1/2012

- Number of users displayed on Hotspot

- Upgrade of Google's OS to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0)

- Improved Lock Screen

- Home screen folders

- Improved Android Browser

- Improved Camera Experience

- Face Unlock

- Resizable widgets

I'm going to push hard to get this on my phone today and will let you know how it is once it's updated!

I know some are hesitant on LG products b/c of their poor OS upgrade history, at least that's what I seem to see while reading comments in the LG Optimus G threads (which is available for pre-order at Sprint now, btw). But, I cant help but wonder if LG's new relationship with Google/Nexus will give them a boost with future OS upgrade performance across all their phone models.

That would be nice. At least it's come instead of at the last minute Sprint and LG saying that they won't release it.

Nope. No luck yet. Appears to be totally random. :(

Have you tried the menu-settings-apps-all apps-Google services framework - clear data - force stop-

Then trying to check for updates?

Yep. Like 15-20 times today.

There is a way to do it manually now.

For those that don't want to wait, there is a way to do this. Check out this post at Android Central.

I'm tethering from my phone because I have no home internet anymore in Pahrump. This will take quite a while to complete.

I could download it, burn it to a disk, and then mail it to you faster than downloading it over Sprint 3g...

Haha. Nice try. I'm already at 28%. Current download speed is about as fast as my fastest dialup speeds, 30k, but it peaks at around 75k at times. I have about an hour and a half to go.

He would never make it that far on veggie power. Although I'd never make it that far on fried chicken power, either.
