theDrizzle
I've noted in the past few days that I've seen increase in speeds in the Raleigh area. I think it may be an upgraded backhaul occurring in the area. My questions are these... If someone were to get say 5000kbps on a wimax phone that never experienced this speed before, can we conclude that an upgrade is infact occurring? Can this result be a fluke? Is the bandwidth directly tied together on wimax / 3g? If a train leaves station A at 3:30am and Sprint is doing upgrades, what time will the train arrive in Raleigh? S4GRU
Network Vision upgrades have no direct impact on WiMax. WiMax is deployed on Clearwire's network on their own sites. Where Sprint CDMA and Clearwire WiMax are on the same site, it is just conicidental. Their equipment is completely separate and they are connected to separate networks. None of the Network Vision upgrades will be done to WiMax equipment or the WiMax network. Clearwire will continue to maintain that network themselves separately. So anything you notice occurring with WiMax performance cannot be directly related to Network Vision deployment. Clearwire Wi-Max backhaul and Sprint 3G backhaul are completely separate. Data Speed upgrades are being done in the Raleigh area on existing Sprint sites now, even before NV work has completely ramped up. Those are shown at network.sprint.com but are only for Sprint sites. I don't think it's been reported on here whether or not Clear is updating any backhaul or not. My guess would be more people switching to newer phones without Wi-Max and potentially less people using the Clear towers.

RichardXy
Perhaps the increased speeds on wimax are the direct result of fewer people on wimax phones. Im sure a lot of wimax people already upgraded to LTE phones even if the network isn't up where they live.

I figured that's the reason why I've been getting kick ass wimax speeds lately, like consistent 12 mbps near downtown Cary. Makes it much easier to hold out on a phone that I really want. Im in St Louis and my WIMAX speed has been getting a lot faster and we are not getting NV anytime soon. I hit >10Mbps, and the average is getting better too. I think its a combination on less people and some Clearwire improvements.

Although not a perfect indicator, that's a good sign. And if you looked in our NV Sites Complete Map in our Sponsor section and seen a completed site in that area, I would take that as confirmation.
