It's still is...
Correct, miss the ergonomic design but since I upgraded to the MXPE, it was a good phone.

FYI
Sprint has FINALLY released Android Lollipop 5.1 along with Stagefright plus other enhancements on 8 December 2015. I was up late at night downloading and installing due to the file size. Afterwards as always I did a hard reset to manufacture specifications to purge the systems and start fresh. It's been fantastic and way way long overdue.
* Have at it and enjoy it
Nice, the Moto X 1st Gen was such a good phone.

And also my experience a few days ago.
Anyone experienced issues on the MXPE while using Open World?
This is the first time using my phone over in Mexico with Open World, previously had Global Roaming on my Moto X 1st Generation and had no issues. This weekend had to visit Mexico for a few hours and my phone took a while to connect to Movistar after turning off the phone a few times. Voice and text was working well but data was not registering as I had the exclamation mark show up. Support advised to go into settings and select the carrier "Movistar" manually in order to register data. After 2 tries, data started working fine.
Under Cellular Networks> System Select you have to select Automatic and under preferred Network Type select Global and turn on data roaming.
I believe the MXPE is compatible with Movistars LTE but was connected to HSPA all the time.

Would you folks test your 3G data connection on the MXPE and report whether or not it works? Also, report if you are using Sprint directly or if you access their network through an MVNO (I use Ting).
DC
My 3G works on the MXPE but I'm on Sprint.
After owning the Moto X 1st gen on Sprint, I noticed that 3G is a bit weaker on the MXPE and get full bars with the exclamation bar very often. I had no issues whatsoever on the 1st Gen and believe LTE was a bit stronger as well.

Looks like the 2nd carrier for B41 is beginning to show up in Orange County. See attached screenshot, noticed this as I was exiting the 5 freeway at Culver in Irvine earlier this evening.
Since I'm on Project Fi now, I don't run speed tests anymore, but I'm sure this 2nd carrier is plenty fast. I'm actually rarely connected to Sprint these days (I'd say 85% T-Mobile, 15% Sprint)...but more importantly, I stay connected to LTE 100% in all places I frequent and data works plenty fast for what I need it for.
What's that Sprint icon on the notification bar?

I tried Sprint Global Roaming for a week and it wasn't that bad at all. Mostly for texting purposes and lite browsing. Now on Sprint Open World but have yet to try it. Will report back.

So keep it on and activate the Moto and everything will be fine?
Sent from my HTC Evo 4G
Well try to activate with the add-on and report back how did it go. If Sprint already provided a fix, then you should have no issues.

-
So open world (etc) will kick the activation off. But if I don't have those on my account (that I know of) would it go through or would I still have to chat with support.
Sent from a Note 4
It should go through. Some users have reported no issues while activating.

Still working with Sprint support, was told today that a fix for the Open World program could go in as early as tomorrow for the Moto X Pure
I would assume the fix is on Sprints side? or any details of what they stated?
-
Question: i have it on now with my LGG3. When i start setting up the Moto pure, will the add on be an obstacle to activate the Moto on Sprint, or will the activation go through fine and the the add on will cancel automatically?
Sent from my HTC Evo 4G
If you try to activate online by entering the IMEI and SIM Card, the system recognizes both but after submitting the request it will prompt you to contact sprint via phone or chat.
The rep will advise that the service(s) Global Roaming and/or Open World are not compatible and will need to be removed in order to active the Moto X Pure.

Sweet, thanks. Many times I've need to use my note as a flashlight( for a few seconds or temporarily to find a actually flash light) I'd have to wake the screen, unlock it, then turn it on. Witch takes around 5 seconds give or take.
Sent from a Note 4
No problem.
You can also pull down the quick settings bar and turn on the flashlight as another option.

Also, the chop twist gesture to turn on the camera flash as a flashlight. Dose that work with a pin/pattern lock?
Sent from a Note 4
Yup, the flashlight works when the screen is off, or the phone is locked.

Point well taken, AJ. But I wish they would have told me the situation instead of promising it will be taken care of. I wasted several days on the word of that rep I spoke to on Monday.
That $25 solution sounds good. I wish I knew more about it. Is there one provider I should consider over another? Where do I purchase that sim at the airport (Gatwick)? Can I talk in addition to data? Will that sim work in Paris and Germany as well?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not posing these questions at you, AJ. These are the things I'll have to research. Thanks for the reply. I hope if anyone has any luck with Global Roaming, they'll post here.
I travelled with my Moto X 1st gen to Europe last year and had no issues swapping sims, call Sprint and have them unlock your moto first.
In Germany you can purchase either from O2 or Vodafone. In france you can try Orange, theres a sim that I bought in Germany that didnt work but I cant remember the company name... I'll see if I can find out.

Yes. What a tragicomedy. Sprint has insisted at various times that the phone is an LTE device, but "isn't 4GLTE" so isn't compatible with Open World; doesn't contain gsm radios; or contains gsm radios but doesn't support international frequencies. No response when asked which frequency bands Sprint requires to provision the Open World feature that this phone doesn't support.
With persistence, they're now communicating with internal technical support to figure this out. I'm also going to let Motorola know about this issue. Maybe they just need to hear from more of us so they'll fix their system? The problem isn't with the phone.
This is exactly what I got from chat support and replied back to them stating that the Moto X 1st gen has the same capabilities as the Moto X Pure so it should work the same when roaming in other countries supported by the plan. They stated since it was a CDMA phone it would not work because we connect to GSM networks while roaming lol
I will try to call them tomorrow as was a bit busy at work and haven't had a chance to follow up. Have you received any other updates from Tech Support ?

EDITED:
I THINK I just added both on my line with my Moto X Pure 32GB. When on the Sprint website, does it show your device like this?:
I immediately received an email stating the following "Added:International:Sprint Open World ℠ - $0.00/mo**
Added:International:Activate international calling (required for Sprint Open World ℠ add-on) - $0.00/mo**"
10 Minutes later I received a message saying my order has been canceled. So it could be currently incompatible. I really don't understand why. Sprint needs to get itself on-board with unlocked device support soon. This includes VVM and SprintZone standalone apps in the Play store.
I hope you are able to get it added soon.
Did what you suggested, went online to activate myself and got the exact email that the changes were made last night.
I checked this morning and no changes were applied to my account. Didnt get a cancellation notice either. I will call them personally and see whats going on.

Seems like Global roaming and Open World are not compatible with the Moto X Pure, as Customer service is not able to re add the services on my account after activating my Moto X Pure. Worldwide support supposedly contacted tech support and they stated that the plans do not work. Anyone experiencing the same issue?
-
Seems like Global Roaming add-on nor the Open World Plan are not compatible with the Moto X Pure, as customer care is not able to add it back to my account. Any other users having issues adding these back to their account ?
I know there's a thread for Open World already but this also applies to the Pure. Feel free to move if needed.

Then it sounds like the radio on this phone isn't as good, which AJ pointed out in the testing numbers.
Well I remember that the Moto X 2014 had antenna enhancements.

Do you get b41 anywhere else??
Sent from my LGLS990 using Tapatalk
Yes, there's a few towers that are B41 enabled, and was connected to a few of them on my way to work.
-
Finally activated my phone, went online to activate and the IMEI was recognized, entered the UCCID and hit enter, got the message to contact chat support. Spent around an hour to get it activated and its finally working. The rep had to remove the Global Roaming add on in order to activate.
Only thing is that I no longer get LTE 41 at the office, used to be able to connect with the Moto X 2014 so stuck in 3G

Ok, I've been out of the loop for a bit. Now, with the Moto X Pure, when I was reading the specs I saw all of Sprints LTE Bands shown, I'm going to guess all of Sprints CDMA bands also are on there. My question is if this is truly the case for this phone?
Yup, The Moto X Pure works on Sprint.

Had this issue last night, data would not authenticate neither voice, and was unable to use my phone at all. My MXPE would be connected to Movistar but it was pretty much dead. Any thoughts?
