  1. Hey did you ever make it out to Ithaca Saturday? The LTE was lit up all weekend....major tease though, seems like it off today....that sucked I was hyped there for a while. Ran some speed tests using sensorly

I'll be up there this coming Saturday, but will be on a wine tour bus, so I can't really determine my own path unfortunately. But I have signalcheck set to notify me upon new LTE connections, so I'll make sure to stay alert for them.

  2. Hopefully that means Binghamton isn't far off from getting 800 too. Upstate NY has been dry as far as 800 acceptances are concerned. Once it gets turned on I can finally get my girlfriend's family to leave Verizon, their house is on the fringe of 1900 1x and it's only partially usable.

Going to be in Ithaca on Saturday, I hope that intermittent LTE site is on full time by then.

  3. So I tried to get my wife to pick up a sim card from the Corp. store by her work. They told her they can not give her the card and that I have to take the phone to them to get activated. From what I have read they should have been able to give me one.

Looks like I will have to wait for the back order one to come it.

Not true. My local store actually told me the Play store was cheaper for the phone, and if I got one from Google, to just come into the store and they would give me a SIM.

Technically you can activate the phone without a SIM even installed beforehand. But, I'm sure they would want to see the phone just to make sure you aren't using it on AT&T or T-Mobile before they give you a SIM.

  4. On W-CDMA, yes.  On CDMA1X, doubtful.  Where did you find evidence that any iPhone implements support for EVRC-NW?

    AJ

Edited original post. But I've heard other members say it was functional, I think? Is this evidence in the wild, or is it totally unknown for the iPhone 5, 5C, and 5S?

We know the Nexus 5 supports EVRC-NW 100%, correct?

Last night I placed a call between two Nexus 5's in my Upstate NY market (Same room as each other) and it was definitely not HD Voice. ALU not supported yet, or is it just my group of local towers that don't?

  5. I don't really care about the subsidy at this point, to be honest. I won't be buying the $500-600 devices, but rather staying in the $300 range. (My 5C, NEW on eBay was $349… thanks to it being a Sprint model) N5 is $349 as well. Plus, I'm open to buying a lightly used device as well if the opportunity arises. (Anyone have an N5 they don't want?)  ;)

  6. Just what I wanted to know. I didn't think any major advances were on the imminent horizon, now seems as safe of a time as ever to buy a new device. Now if I was considering a Nexus 5 in November '14… I might have a bit of buyer's remorse. I suppose I could enjoy an N5 for all of 2014 if I got one now, though.

Can't wait until 95% of sites are triband… what a beautiful world that will be. Constant LTE on road trips, seamless handoffs. Ah!

  7. This question involves no phone in particular:

Since the current triband offerings are among the first Sprint triband phones on the market, what technology would I be missing out on if I waited until the Summer/Fall to buy a new device? Is being an early triband adopter a bad thing, or will everything stay pretty much the same for the foreseeable future?

For example, will devices released in Q4 2014 have any additional wireless technology that is compatible with the Sprint network? (Based on rumors that Sprint may utilize a new wireless technology/feature, or devices may implement a new wireless technology/feature that improves speed/range…etc.)

  8. So basically at this point, it can be gathered from this thread that:

    • HD-Voice can work on 1x 800Mhz or 1x 1900Mhz
    • HD-Voice functions on iPhone 5+.

    Lingering questions I have:

    • Does it require new antennas, can it work on legacy hardware?
    • Is it functional between two markets? Or is it really a regional thing? (One market can have it turned on while another market 10 miles away with the same vendor's hardware will not?)
  9. I am not sure Sprint would activate a device that wasn't purchased from them. That's why I got my iPad from them.

Pretty sure you don't need to buy an iPad from Sprint in order to use it on their network. The plans are all activated through the devices - at least that's how my Verizon iPad 2 was.

If you get a Sprint SIM, it should work. All of the new iPads are unlocked.

  10. I've always been curious as to exactly how much coverage Verizon has, based on their site placement.

Are there resources like S4GRU out there for other carriers, specifically VZW? Whenever I see a "hole" in Sprint's coverage on the sponsor maps, I wonder if Verizon has a few sites out in the boonies that would serve potential customers there.

Tracking T-Mobile and AT&T would be interesting too if anyone knows of a source for those sites, but Verizon has been piquing my interest as of late.

I've already used things like Sensorly to view user sourced content, and have checked each carrier's vague coverage maps. I'd really like to see actual site placement though if it was possible.

(I'd never, ever switch since my Sprint coverage is fine, just curious)
