Yup! I'm sure a lot of people are LEAVING sprint right now too, so it sort of benefits us both ways. Less customers to bog down the towers, but better quality towers to lure in new business.
I feel bad for the uneducated that are dropping Sprint without knowing what's really about to happen!

Upstate NY Central
Status: GMO’s Under Way/Full Builds Site Deployment Beginning
NV Sites Accepted = 57%LTE Sites Accepted = 0%
Anticipated LTE Launch = TBDOriginal Scheduled Completion = Q1 2014
Current Production Rate Completion = January 2014None of this being anywhere near Binghamton, correct? I'm dying here!

Definitely, I wish their commercials got a bit more aggressive. This is what they should do for marketing Sprint after NV is complete ... take identical phones and show side by side how Sprint will always win :-)
This is faster than any of my friends' Verizon phones have EVER been. It's hard getting people to believe you that sprint's network will actually be of a better quality than Verizon in a year's time. (In most areas)

Verizon (white) vs. Sprint (Same server)

Whoa, it's back!
The speed was so quick that it seemed to *slam* into a cap at 300KB/s, is this the theoretical limit for whatever technology we are currently using?
-
I remember last year getting speeds like 1-5-1.6 down near the Home Depot on Lehigh St. Now speeds there soooooooo slow.
I also got something crazy like 2.4 down in the parking lot of Rite Aid on Tilghman Street & Route 100 some time last year. Never happened again!
Lehigh street Home Depot was horrrrrible for me too, I'll check again later today maybe.

Just got 1.8 down over at the Allentown wegmans, indoors. Not bad at all, maybe it is post network vision after all....or should it be even faster all said and done?
-
I'm over near "Bicentennial" and got 2.2Mbps down 1Mbps up a few months ago, haven't seen it since though. Your speedtest results happen pretty regularly around this time of night for me, I haven't noticed a huge bump in speed since I was pulling down 300Kb/s a long time ago. Not sure why it was so fast, but it hasn't come back.Allentown right off of 78 Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Just now, 1.33 down 0.92 up. Pretty normal for me here. Not awful, but not network vision either I don't think?

Nothing out of the ordinary going on here, the timeline for NV and LTE rollout is well documented on this website. It extends into early/mid 2014 for some markets. Read some of the stickied posts and you'll see that we're a 4th round market. (last)

Check the Sensorly maps, it looks like Allentown is getting some blips of LTE in various places. Shouldn't be long now!

This is a colossal waste of time. All efforts should be focused on the new operating system to stay on top of Apple's releases. The number of users staying on iOS6 for purely aesthetic reasons is MINISCULE compared to the amount of users that will be able to take advantage of an iOS7 jailbreak.

Springtime bump for the Binghamton area! Fourth round market
I've noticed some odd 1x areas (that are always 3G usually) the past few weeks around the Endicott/Endwell/Binghamton area recently, but no obvious NV speeds yet. Any word if work has progressed considerably around this area yet?
LTE would be cool, but I'm not holding my breath just yet
-
How are 3G speeds there? Has Allentown gotten any NV upgrades aside from LTE?
Where Lehigh Street and 78 intersect is a complete Sprint dead zone. Not that there isn't any signal, because there is, but I think it's so congested from highway traffic the network is 100% unusable. Can't even run speedtests usually. The network gets better once I hit Emmaus, or go the opposite direction towards downtown Allentown.

I hate to be a smartass but Billy Joel's song Allentown actually isn't about Allentown... Its about our neighboring town of Bethlehem. But anyway back on topic, speed tests in Allentown im only getting 0.29 mbps down and 0.66 mbps up
I'm not very familiar with the area yet, but I'm about half of a mile North of the Allentown Airport (Not LV International). Maybe only one of the towers was affected, or perhaps even after NV my tower is getting bogged down during the day? I'm sure as hell not getting 300KB/s down right now :-) 4AM was a different story.
-
This is great news. Hopefully we'll see it popping up here in Allentown soon!
3G in Allentown is absolutely blazing right now! Last week this exact location was completely bogged down. I would have full bars, but the backhaul seemed nonexistent. Network vision must be complete or nearing completion, I hope :-). Unfortunately I do not have an LTE device to test with.
-
Agreed! I was getting 150-200KB/s down in Bethlehem a few weeks ago, it was delightful! I wonder if they got any NV upgrades.

Wow I remember Sprint would be 1X after the Lehigh Tunnel on 476. I haven't had Sprint since 2011 so I naturally figured it was EVDO by now. Good to know, thanks for the info.
Nnnnnnope! Just drove through it at 5PM, kept my eye out for all of the pitiful, pitiful towers on 476. Was able to stream Pandora on Hi-Quality today despite being on 1X... it really must be maxed out to do that. Skips occasionally though.
Once in 5 bars of EV-DO south of the tunnel, it's still horribly slow. My guess is that the towers are completely saturated from Allentown users.
-
Careful with the 3G comment or AJ will correct you! 1X IS a 3G technology, just not one that is very good at moving large amounts of data! But yea, not used to being in non-EVDO coverage when traveling.
Being a member here certainly involves a learning curve, I'll get the hang of it over the next few weeks

Incorrect. That IS corporate Sprint. Luckily, this will be converted to at least GMO 3G by the completion of NV. It appears Sprint never saw it as cost effective to upgrade these areas to 3G. It's a PITA for me as I travel all over PA for my job.
I feel you - even trying to stream Pandora is a struggle on 2G most of the time!
I certainly woke up to much more information than I expected, thanks everyone! It looks like this will iron itself out over the next couple of years. The areas around the highways in Northern PA certainly are very rural, with low population density. It baffled me that most of the turnpike was not upgraded to 3G though, I always thought major highways got priority.
-
I've been driving through what appears to be a very neglected portion of Pennsylvania. I commute from Binghamton, NY to Allentown, PA once a week and the 2G is really killing me. Made me question what was going on around that area.
I'm having a hard time finding any areas on the East coast with such widespread 2G-only service left. Is there a reason for most, if not ALL of Northern PA to not even have 3G yet? My initial thought is that the mountains must have something to do with it - maybe Sprint is not willing to add the amount of towers they'd need for good coverage through this area? Seems like everything North of the Lehigh Tunnel (Goes through a huge mountain separating N and S PA) is 2G while everything South of it is 3G.
Network Vision will convert these 2G sites to a minimum of 3G when completed, correct?
-
Excellent! It's the 6th now, any idea how that went?
Any more information on the Greater Binghamton area would be very much appreciated

It will be a huge bummer if the iPhone 5S didn't get a tri-band chip in time for this
If Sprint said the devices will be launching "Late 4Q" as said above, the iPhone's got no shot.
