What kind of impact will this have on the frequency of updates the NV Sites Complete map will get over the next 4-6 weeks?
-
Anybody know the backhaul timeframe for the Binghamton area? As far as I know, there are only a small handful of sites that aren't 3G accepted yet, so we've been running the new equipment in 99% of Broome County for some time now. Is backhaul the only thing preventing a few of these sites from lighting up LTE?
Not expecting a full launch until 2014 at least, but a few towers at least testing it out would be cool :-)

2600 is already live, 800 isnt
Yes, but only in a very limited number of markets. Won't 800 surpass 2600 very quickly once it's deployed?
-
Won't it be years before 2600 is deployed to the extent that 800 will be, though? 800Mhz LTE is simply a "flip the switch" rollout, whereas 2600 requires additional tower hardware, correct?
If that's the case, my area probably won't see 2600 support in the next few years anyway, so I could care less that the 5S and 5C don't support it. It sounds like there's a much better chance of running into 800Mhz in the next two years than 2600.
At least both phones are dual-band LTE. 800Mhz LTE support was the deciding factor for me to be on board with a new iPhone this year, anyway. So I'm pleased!

Gotcha. Looks like I should have done a bit of research before buying the app. It's still somewhat useful though.

In the WiMax protection sites map, it shows 6 WiMax sites in the Albany/Schenectady area.
-
Interesting... Do the Sprint sites give off very rough coordinates as to their location? Is that the issue with the bad location data?
-
I've been using the Signal 2 app on my jailbroken 4S to see which towers my phone has been connecting to. For the most part, it sort of works. The tower locations are way off on the map, but after looking at the sponsor maps, you can get an idea of which towers you're connecting to, even if the dots in the app are half a mile off.
I was wondering if anyone else was having this issue with Sprint + Signal 2. Does this app work better for ATT/VZW customers, or is this just a flaw in the app for Sprint customers?
It would be cool if there was user access to the database Signal 2 gets its data from - I'd love to help make it more accurate, sort of like Wikipedia.

2.7Mbps!! Maxed out the theoretical cap of Sprint 3G next to the WSKG building tower in Vestal.

Took the first one yesterday afternoon, so right around 24 hours.

Whoa, is it just me or does it look like they did that between the time I took both pictures?
It must have happened early this morning. Coincidence!
-
This is a different site with a different issue. Sorry for the confusion. Please do not merge! It might make my other thread confusing.
I will stay in my market's thread from now on, this forum topic has been resolved Learned a lot!
I did just revisit this site, and there is indeed another antenna on the backside. Good call digi.
-
I will go back and take another look today, and get a picture if I can get around to that side of the tower. I could've sworn that there was only one new antenna but will double check to be sure.
-
Thanks for all the feedback. I can confirm that this is the only site that serves the majority of my town, and have verified with the Signal app that I am connected to it and nothing else, despite living behind the new antenna and not in the "line of fire."
Are you guys saying that the single NV antenna visible in the photo has the capability of serving users BEHIND it? There is only one new antenna mounted on this site. Digiblur, what do you mean by sector? Each RRU is for providing the antenna with different bands, correct? One for 1900Mhz LTE, and the other for 800Mhz?
This is the only site that serves my house right now, and I'm a few miles north of it. The new antenna is points South - so the legacy gear *Must* be still powered on unless someone can confirm that the single NV antenna is a 360º type deal.
-
Here's a site near me.... It is a 3G accepted site but I do not believe they are utilizing the NV hardware yet. (Speedtests are mediocre, even late at night) Are the three smaller panels the legacy antennas? If so...
Why would only one NV antenna be installed, when three legacy panels were installed previously pointing in all directIons? Is it typical for them to come back and install more antennas when they remove the legacy hardware? If they come to remove the legacy antennas and don't replace them with anything else, my town will be screwed for sprint service.
This tower has looked like this for a very long time, it just seems they're done here. But the legacy panels must come down, right?

It will also improve if you use punctuation in your next post

Can someone identify which set of panels are the Sprint Legacy panels? One set is another carrier, I just don't know enough to tell which one. There is a much smaller set below the large ones, and they only point in one direction I believe.
This is the Endwell, Robinson Hill tower.

Oh! I did see the site's number written on the side of the ALU boxes. Didn't know that was a Sprint specific number, figured it was the whole tower.
In that case, awesome! Thanks for the identification guys. This is one of the few towers in my area that isn't 3G upgraded yet, so I really can't wait until it goes live.

Hoping someone familiar with actual site upgrades can share some input.
Got a picture today, they actually delivered more boxes, on a Saturday oddly enough. The box on the left is the Ericsson crate I saw yesterday, the ones on the right are all labeled Alcatel-Lucent! Are these familiar to anybody?
-
I drove down a dirt road to a local Sprint tower here in Endwell today. (Upstate NY Central) I know the tower is shared with either AT&T or Verizon, just not sure which.
This tower has not had any upgrades done, not even 3G yet, per the maps in the sponsor section.
When I looked behind the fence, I spotted a huge wooden crate at the base of the tower with Ericsson stamped on the side. It looked like it was a shipment. Is it possible this was a crate full of antennas for the impending upgrade? Or, since this is an Alcatel/Lucent site, perhaps not involved with Sprint at all?
Maybe I'll get a pic tomorrow. Don't know why I didn't today.
-
That tower still isn't NV upgraded yet, even for 3G Most of the other towers in the area have been upgraded, while this one isn't. Not sure what the holdup is, I drive by it every day and haven't seen anyone there in awhile.
From what I can see, this tower points directly at Vestal and serves most of the parkway near the town square mall.
-
Interesting!
170Kbps = 21KB/s so, I guess not a huge upgrade from where we're at. But, 1x data should become a little harder to come by so I suppose there's not much to complain about.
-
Still learning as I go, so bear with me...
Once I have a full 800Mhz tower upgrade in my market, what would a 1x speedtest produce? As we all know, 1x data is just terrible, only achieving a few KB/s on the upload and download.
And to clarify, 800Mhz upgrades are for 1x and LTE only, correct? Not normal 3G.

AL33XC519 in Endwell, NY appears to be getting some work done today. A bunch of trucks at the base, and some town trucks in the road. Perhaps some more fiber....?
I contacted the town and Sprint's building permit was approved on 6/10/13, so this very well might be NV.
Look closely and you can see a man in both pictures. :-) It appeared he was running a cable up the tower, but I couldn't tell for sure.

iPhone 5S signal strength in dBm
in Apple/iPhone/iOS
Posted
I just got my 5S today. My 4S was jailbroken, and I had my signal strength shown in dBm. This seems to have automatically carried over to my 5S without me having to do anything, other than restore from the 4S' iCloud backup.
Say I do a clean restore, is there a way to get this back? I've searched, but it seems people are having trouble getting the numerical signal strength to 'stick' on iOS 7.
