  1. I'm also in Houston and have a line with both Sprint and T-Mobile. I've run into many places where I'm getting sub 1Mb/s download speeds on T-Mobile.
  2. You don't need a variable speed cap to adjust customers' speeds when it comes to wireless. The amount of capacity in a given area already does that. Putting a speed cap will only slow down things even further. If you're experiencing sub 1Mb/s speeds in a given area, everyone around you on the same network is experiencing the same and the network is being maxed out.
  3. I also posted this in the LG G5 rumors thread - looks like LG will be selling an unlocked G5 compatible with both GSM and CDMA. I'd like to see more manufacturers do this (similar to iPhone, Nexus devices, and Moto X Pure). http://www.marketwired.com/press-release/lg-brings-an-unlocked-version-of-the-g5-its-first-ever-modular-smartphone-to-b-h-2107323.htm
  4. So LG is selling an unlocked G5 model that works on GSM and CDMA. http://www.marketwired.com/press-release/lg-brings-an-unlocked-version-of-the-g5-its-first-ever-modular-smartphone-to-b-h-2107323.htm
  5. From what I read it seems that providers can opt out of BingeOn optimization (aka throttling) but it WILL use up customers' data allotment. New Options for Video Providers Today, T-Mobile announced yet another update and new options for video providers giving them more choice over how Binge On’s video optimization applies to their content. Now video providers can choose to have their content stream at native resolutions – including Ultra HD and beyond – without Binge On’s mobile optimization, using up customers’ high-speed data faster.
  6. Yeah I've seen that too. In my house I can get a weak b41 signal in some rooms and that'll get me about 10Mb/s download speeds, but uploads will be less than 1Mb/s or time out like you said. When I bounce off of b41 it'll switch to overloaded b26 where I'll get 1-2Mb/s download but uploads are about 4Mb/s. It's not a big deal at home because I have wifi, but when I go to the gym my phone will camp on a weak b41 signal that sometimes will time out if I try to speedtest (and I speedtest because websites aren't loading). Hopefully Sprint's densification project is in full swing and it'll solve the upload issue before it becomes a problem. But even then, you'd figure with enough densification and the amount of spectrum Sprint has that download speeds won't be an issue unless there's a coverage issue. Reading the NSN white paper you posted, switching configurations from Configuration 1 to Configuration 2 would mean 30% higher average download speeds but at a cost of half the upload speeds.
  7. One thing I'm worried about is typically when I see b41 indoors it's usually a weaker signal. A weak signal with a low theoretical max upload might make upload speeds look like 3g upload speeds.
  8. But Rootmetrics is biased against Tmobile and turns off VoLTE. Legere told me so and expect call reliability to improve in their new reports with VoLTE turned on.
  9. Nice. Hopefully this is just the start and we'll see inter-market PCS exchanges between the two companies. It'd be nice if Sprint trades for more PCS frequencies in markets that could use it (such as Houston) by giving up excess capacity else where.
  10. Do you have more information such as which markets are the priority markets? You don't have to tell us which markets, but a yes or no will suffice. I'm in Houston and Sprint has always taken care of Houston early. I hope that trend continues.
  11. *Not quite. On T-Mobile by default you have to go into your account settings and make changes if you want to watch 1080p video. It doesn't matter what the speedtests show. I'm just pointing out BingeOn.
  12. Since it has all the bands Samsung should sell an unlocked version compatible with all carriers like the Nexus phones and Moto X Pure Edition.
  13. Samsung should sell an unlocked version that works on all carriers much like the Nexus phones and Moto X Pure Edition.
  14. I'm sorry, but has Sprint introduced new plans that existing customers aren't allowed to switch to?
  15. Based on what you're saying, if Sprint eventually combines B41 and B25 for carrier aggregation, at that point B25 could be used for uplink and the downlink portion wouldn't be wasted, correct? And since B41 is TDD it could theoretically be configured to use all 20mhz for downlink wouldn't it? Of course if that's the eventual plan it will still be way down the line. ***Nevermind you covered it in your last paragraph. Sorry didn't read - thanks for already answering me haha.
  16. Now that we're in the first quarter of 2016, does anyone know if the densification project has begun or is currently active?
  17. From Rootmetric's Houston report: 114 indoor locations. 62k+ total tests but that's indoors and outdoors. Reading Sprints press release about the Houston results also looks like Sprint focused on improving indoor high traffic areas like downtown, both airports, malls like Galleria, and many other locations. Can't wait till they start the densification project because Houston always gets great treatment from Sprint.
  18. But apparently not when those results are from Rootmetrics. The more reliable results come from a random person in New York who cherry picks locations and does speedtests on rooftops next to T-Mobile sites. Because that's more representative of real world results rather than the thousands of tests within a city that Rootmetrics performs.
  19. Sprint tied for first with Verizon and AT&T in Houston. http://www.rootmetrics.com/us/rsr/houston-tx/2015/2H Sprint has a noticeable lead over all the others in median download speeds.
  20. I've seen a lot of people on Reddit complain about youtube buffering. It's almost as if T-Mobile prioritizes speedtests over a good user experience. Why brag about 50+mb/s speedtests when Youtube is constantly buffering?
  21. Remember those are median download speeds, not average. It's possible to be on b41 more than half the time and get more than 20mb/s and median speeds will reflect that. If nearly the other half the time you're on b26 and getting 3-5mb/s it won't be reflected in those median speeds. ***I'm not saying that's the case here, just pointing out median is different from average.
  22. That report doesn't rate actual network quality, but what consumers think of their carriers. All the major carriers ranked below Ting and Virgin Mobile(!) as well as other mvnos.
  23. Consumer reports didn't rate the actual networks, but consumer sentiment towards the carriers.
  24. That would be a reason, but he specifically states it's because the CEO and he feels T-Mobile cares.
