  1. That surprised me too. If you had asked, I would have even said that southern OC never had a lick of wimax. I also remember checking the clear website a couple months ago and it didn't show wimax in many areas. Did sprint get busy after buying the rest of clear or did they just drink the kool-aid because I want some of that.

I have a feeling they add some sites, because it is the same way in chicago too.

  2. You know apple won't change anything to show any differences. Sprint will do anything and everything for Apple.

anyone will do anything for apple, that is why sprint has to sign a commitment contract just to get the iphone. The funny thing now, is that apple wants every carrier to have the iphone, because other companies like htc,lg and Samsung have made better phones the iphone. Also this is why I don't own a iphone, because they have to do things so much different then everyone else and not always to benefit the consumer

  3. Thanks.

Been lurking for a few weeks and understand the issues surrounding eCSFB are not affecting the new tri-band devices here. I was looking at their newly updated coverage map earlier and have solid orange in my area (also solid yellow for Spark). Just having a hard time deciding on which device to get. I had Sprint before USCC and was having signal issues, so I am leaning towards the N5 in case things don't work out I'll have the option to use another provider. Keping my fingers crossed though that Sprint can actually live up to their claims this time.

signal issues are mostly a thing of the past with 1x voice on 800, but the n5 I hear is a nice phone. Can't really go wrong with any of the new tri-band phones :). 800 lte will be coming online soon, so that will help when u don't get 2600 lte or 1900 lte :)

  4. Still with USCC, but thinking of pulling the trigger on a N5 or G2 tomorrow. Testing the display models in a couple stores (Arlington Hts, and Vernon Hills) has my hopes up that NV + tri-band device will leave me a happy customer.

welcome to s4gru, make sure to check out the n5 or g2 article http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-357-nexus-5-and-lg-g2-experience-temporary-sprint-lte-connectivity-issues-due-to-circuit-switched-fallback-technology/. Shouldn't havent much problems in chicago, Also sprint just updated there coverage map with new spark map in chicago, check it out before u buy.

  5. I'm GUESSING the yellow coverage is where they have LTE in the 800, 1900 and 2500/2600 bands.

I was wondering the same thing, considering robert hasn't got any reports about 800 lte yet. I have a feeling it is just clear sites that have td-lte on them with 1900 lte. Because I notice some areas in chicago, that I know 800 lte would fill in really nicely. So that u would have best lte in a lot more places

  6. So I decided not to use my upgrade until 2015. I think that's when the spark phones will be out that supports carrier aggregation that can do up to 1gbps.

Just going to buy the nexus 5 and let that hold me off until then.

*i may use my upgrade for the iPhone 6 and then re sell it for profit*

Get it in gold, That seems to be the one making the most money. I wish I had the money to buy a few and put them on ebay when they first came out. I had no idea that the gold would go for so much lol

  7. For the Phoenix market, is Sprint upgrading all towers to LTE? Also, does this process add any towers to their count, or only retrofit?

I ask because my house on the outskirts of the southeast valley in Queen Creek (near Rittenhouse and Ocotillo Rd) where I barely get 1-2 bars of 3G service now. Knowing that the 4G service is on a higher frequency band I'm worried it might leave me with no data at all

This is where 800 lte will help u, u probably will get 4g outside your house from 1900. But 800 lte will really help in this matter, so I wouldn't worry that u won't be covered. It is the nice thing about sprint having three different specturms, 2600 for dense areas with high crowds, 1900 for small 1-2 mile cells and 800 to cover inside buildings and long distances. 800 voice can go for miles over 1900 sites, so as long as you are willing to upgrade to tri-band phone. U won't have a problem

  8. I spoke with a guy named Samuel at OpenSignal.  He was willing to help.  I believe OpenSignal uses user based Apps that run in the background to monitor wireless networks and send the data back to OpenSignal to catalog. Samuel told me he investigated speed reports from Chicago on Sprint and noticed a decline starting in September, though not to the point of complete crash we have noticed.  He asked if myself and others in this board would be willing to install the OpenSignal App to start feeding them so more data so he could investigate further.  I volunteered and said OK.  Will my friends Vtrossi, CubbieFan82, Drock2750, ChiWestLoop, and any others please follow suite and install the OpenSignal app?

U got it, more then happy to help out.

  9. I hope that Sprint draws up new territories for the Spark deployments. I haven't been in impressed with Alcatel-Lucent. I'm hoping we get a different vendor in southern California.

Even if they do have al as vendor for your area again, they only have to get permit and put the antenna up. The backhaul will already be there and will be upgraded before they put up the new antenna, I wouldn't worry so much about who gets what. Now Sprint also has tons of money to throw at this, things will get faster at deployment. Softbank isn't about to let the big two take its customers lol

  10. So given the opinion of many that there are and will be significant hold outs on the USCC shut down in Chicago, another used referenced those who held onto iDEN until the last moment, that means the theory of powering down some of the USCC sites on the B spectrum is probably out of the question.  Powering down, essentially pulls the plug, and Sprint has said they will keep service active until 1/31/15.  Could mean the interference is here to stay until at least then, which is unacceptable to me, but I certainly understand it.  Hope were wrong, and its not the interference from USCC sites, but something else Sprint can rectify as soon as humanly possible, pulled 39K download speed on LTE today at the Merchandise Mart with an LTE literally ontop of me....hooray!

Check your date? I am not sure if u meant to put 1/31/15 or meant 1/31/2014. We only got three months until the uscc shutdown finally

  11. I know that USCC is being shut down in waves, but do we know when Chicago specifically will go dark?

U.S. Cellular customers in St. Louis and Chicago don’t have switch over to a new carrier immediately, but it’s only a matter of time before their phones go dead. Sprint on Wednesday said it is setting a deadline of Oct. 31 to shut down U.S. Cellular’s towers in St. Louis. Chicagoans will get a few months reprieve: The network is scheduled to go dark in the Windy City on Jan. 31.

  12. "The CTA currently leases its subway cellular network to six major wireless providers." I'm assuming these six are the Big Four + USCC and Cricket? The latter two are going away so I suppose it will just support the bands of the remaining four. This will be pretty nice when it rolls out, but I hope people stay aware of their surroundings and don't walk on to the tracks or get mugged.

The Chicago market (which Robert had predicted would be 3G complete by the end of September) is tantalizingly close to being finished with NV 1.0 equipment upgrades. After the bunch of 9 3G acceptances from 9/25, I believe there are just two remaining legacy sites. I wonder how we can celebrate Chicago becoming the very first market to reach 3G completion?

That is the six providers, I think sprint should cover chicago with 800 lte. We already got 2600 covering most chicago market and not many cell sites with 1900 lte to get backhaul. Then we would could the first market to be on are way to nv 2.0 :-)

  13. So I'll ask you guys here. It's time to get a new cellphone. I am looking at the iphone 5s. For the purposes of living in Wisconsin, does it practically matter that it's not triband? I know it has 800 LTE, which helps penetrate buildings. Does not having the 2600(?) band matter if you are not living in a big city? What I'm asking is over the next year or two, but most likely one, will I even notice the phone is not triband? I'll probably wait to see what the Nexus offers when it's announced before pulling the trigger on anything though.

If that's the way you get down (with Apple products coming from Apple products), then it's a solid choice. You're right in that the important part is the 800LTE, after that, 2600 won't matter much. Especially in the upcoming year. Perhaps in several years when LTE advanced in launched? Unless someone wants to correct that.

And luckily the NSA will already have your fingerprint! So you won't need to go to a NSA fingerprint station in your city......just kidding, the 5S appears to be a great piece of tech. I'm an Android man myself, looking at my list of devices, but I do think they make great hardware. Just tiny screens.

Just like tommy said as I was writing my reply lol. 2600 isn't that big of a deal for people in smaller cities, it only helps in big events and big cities like Chicago for example. Also sprint is starting to get in das systems at sporting events and put in more micro cells and double density cell sites. Honestly if you like the iphone 5s/5c go for it, the big key like everyone said is the 800 LTE

  14. 3G will be on 800. CDMA (1x, voice) is a 3G technology. As is EVDO. Most people only think of EVDO as 3G, but that is not correct.

What you mean is that EVDO will be only on 1900, and CDMA will be on 800.

Be very leery of anything you hear from a support call. Most representatives you talk to don't actually have access to the NV time table. Sprint marketing doesn't even know which markets are going to launch in October, let alone which ones are going to launch in November. There may be one city in the market that is ready to launch in November, but the central Illinois market will not be launching in November.

Corrected post and I meant to put that in there. I was typing to fast for my own good again lol. Yea tech support don't know when anything is going to launch, network is spread out. It is hard to say that a market is going to launch at one time.

  15. Wow was really expecting an overbuild. Now hopefully ntelos gets its head out of its arse and gets onboard with NV.

Yea me too!! If it doesn't, u better believe sprint will over bulid. They arent messing around with network vision and now that they got a new sugar daddy. They are going to be in good shape in a few year or less :)

  16. So will Peoria get 800mhz soon too since we're getting lte?

Yes!! But u will see LTE on 1900 and voice on 800 go live first. The first markets with 800 lte are Chicago and Michigan in the Samsung market that are going to go LTE. I Have heard by the end of the year is the target date for get all markets with LTE to have 800 lte. It is coming, got to be patience . Sadly something that no one has anymore lol
