  1. If Sprint had any money they could have bribed Qualcomm to include WiMax functionality on one of their Gobi chips. As it is, Sprint couldn't afford it. HTC could include a separate Wimax chip, nothing stopping them.
  2. Hearing some rumors that Cricket is short on cash and will not be able to make its roaming payment to Sprint. Is that an added impetus for Sprint to put them out of their misery?
  3. How about follow the release of Qualcomm chipsets with 800MHz LTE as well as 2500MHz TD/LTE. Unless Apple starts making their own baseband chips, they are slaves to Qualcomm's schedule. Even then, they also tend to stick to their 12 month upgrade schedule.
  4. T-Mobile will definitely be a player for Metro. I don't think that AT&T will be a player for anything but Verizon's 700MHz A&B and AWS divestments. Cspire Wireless definitely will be in play and so will USCC. USCC might go to one of the big two.
  5. The usual suspects, Leap and Metro. I would throw in CellSouth. I'm almost certain that the FCC and DOJ would like to have 4 nationwide providers so T-Mobile is out.
  6. It depends on whether the chipset that the iPhone will be using will include the band or not. Something tells me that it won't. Sprint won't deploy 800Mhz LTE until the second half of 2013. So I would be very surprised if Qualcomm/Apple/Sprint actually included it in the 5. On the other hand, I expect them to include 800Mhz 1x Advanced and 1900Mhz LTE.
  7. Yep, that's what I thought, second half of 2013 for 800MHz LTE. I'm very happy Sprint is actually executing. Their stock should pick up later on this year/beginning of 2013. I expect them to start looking for acquisitions as soon as the stock recovers.
  8. CDMA 1x only I would think until June 30th, 2013. They also need to get chipsets with 800Mhz LTE on them, etc. They could have the hardware installed on the basestations installed earlier than that though just not turn them on until after that date.
  9. I haven't seen anybody with an IDEN handset in couple of years. I'm sure they exist .
  10. If by people you mean phone geeks like you and I, yes you're right! Regular people don't care and they certainly don't open up new lines on their accts just to get the latest and greatest handset.
  11. It might have something to do with the need to differentiate one's self from all the other manufacturers using the same platform. I do believe they need to slow down the torrent of handset releases to test each handset more thoroughly. This business of a handset/month has to stop to allow for more thorough testing.
  12. It might be my faulty memory, but I seem to recall that there was a lot of speculative buying of 900MHz B/ILT spectrum speculating that Sprint/Nextel would be forced to buy them out.
  13. You're right AJ! I bit of wishful thinking on my part. On the other hand I never understood why they did not move PS down to the 700MHz PS band that is right below the 800Mhz PS band.
  14. I'm hoping that they somehow or another convince the ILM customers in the 800SMR band to move to the 900 Band then move down into the 800MHz guard and expansion band and another 1MHz below that. That way they'll end up with 10+10Mhz in the 800MHz band.
  15. But, but, but .... Schedule 90. SMR spectrum is Schedule 90. Don't mind me, I'm pretending I'm a IDENite leaving in the past .
  16. Very well could be. I tried to do my drive arounds during high traffic hours in what I perceived to be high traffic areas (highways, downdowns, shopping centers, etc. I definitely did not claim it is scientific.
  17. I know, until last year they only had 1 1x channel and 1 EVDO channel in the majority of cities I visited, Again, this is a just my own experience and not scientifically based. In my hometown, they used channel 350 for 1x and 425 (I think) for years. In some of the sites that have added a second 1x channel. They have definitely added a second EVDO channel (1125). Now in some places they only have a 5x5 A-F channel and there's not much they can do. Other places they can. That was the gist of my question.
  18. I travel all over the country for work so chalk it up to personal experience. I usually check the channel assignments and I don't see more than two voice channels or data channels in most of the places I have been. Now in Manhattan, I'm sure they have more than 2 voice and data channels but definitely not out in suburbia.
  19. Which brings me back to my question: Why is Sprint not doing the same for 1900PCS? In 95% of the nation they are not using but maybe 5Mhz+5MHz of their spectrum. Are they waiting for carrier aggregation? They could still have two 1900Mhz channels even without carrier aggregation. Does carrier aggregation require new hardware?
  20. Sprint's BRS spectrum that they brought into the partnership is contiguous but channelized into 6Mhz channels. Sprint/Clearwire had to apply to the FCC to allow them to aggregate these channels into 10, 20 or 40MHz channels. Clearwire's EBS leases are a bit more scattered. If you want to know about a particular location you have to use FCC's spectrum tools to find out Clearwire's leases for that area.
  21. Where is the earpiece hole? If that tiny hole is the earpiece, where is the front camera hole? Probably a fake 3D printed part and not very well thought out either.
  22. I think that Dish should just buy both of them to just shut them up . Let me just say that I don't think that we need a 5th national carrier. The pie gets cut way too many ways for us to have 5 sustainable, nationwide operators. However, if Dish wants to use their spectrum to primarily service their OTT video ambitions and sell the excess to people like Sprint, T-Mobile and Metro, that will be fine. I also think that they should not attempt to deploy a brand new network and should piggyback on Sprint's NV. Much lower risk that way.
  23. Wimax by itself only implements the bottom two layers of the 7-layer IP stack. The other 5 layers are supposed to be provided by IMS or GSM MAP or ... LTE is a more complete standard.
