  1. I might be late to the table on this but have you tried a full factory image restore via adb fastboot? I had some wonky behavior on another Nexus 5 that was fixed by a full factory restore via adb fastboot. This is different from a factory reset.

No, I haven't. Out for dinner and clearly overpriced margaritas with friends. When I get home I'll try it out.
  2. So I went back to my local Sprint store. Spent at least an hour talking to these guys about Sprint, network vision and nv 2.0. They were amazed to hear how much I knew about Sprint's network improvement plans and even more shocked when I explained to them that all of my knowledge came from s4gru.com. so...don't be surprised if you've got some new members very soon! P.s... Yes.. My phone is jacked. They proved it...finally. At least now I know I'm not crazy!

  3. Well Sprint has a 14 day return policy, not Google.  There is a 1 year warranty on the Google Nexus 5, from what I've been led to believe.  So I'm well outside of Sprint's but well inside of Google's.  It's just so shocking to me to hear people say that this phone "is an RF beast" over and over when it is, by far, the worst RF performer of any phone I've ever owned.  Something inside of it must be super jacked up.  I'm sure there are bad batches of any product produced, cell phones or otherwise.  And mine definitely came from one of those batches, if what everyone else is saying is true.

  4. I thought maybe mine was defective, I know band 17 should be able to be held onto all the time. I'm having it swapped for the backlight bleed so we'll see if its the phone or not.

Mine definitely has a lot of backlight bleed as well. I've also been experiencing severe data connectivity issues. Maybe our phones both came from the same bad batch. How did you go about seeking a replacement?
  5. Well I currently carry the n5 and the m8 and haven't had any issues at all. Now specifically to the n5,it is easily the best RF performer when it comes to being able to pick up lte. I would even say that if the n5 doesn't pick up lte then there is no lte to be picked up. I haven't had any issues with band 25, 26 or 41. It could be possible you maybe experiencing ecsfb issues but here on the south side I haven't had any issues like that at all. If you can confirm that it's not ecsfb then I would definitely say that something may be wrong with your device.

Wow. You get band 41? Very nice indeed. but thank you for all of your input. I will definitely take all this into consideration when I talk to sprint tomorrow.

  6. Currently the speeds I get when connected to band 25 lte at the tower closest to my house still comes in at sub 5mbps but luckily this tower is also transmitting band 26 and when I am connected to band 26 my speeds are a lot higher and more consistent.

Been meaning to ask you.. you have a N5 and are in the Atlanta area and have had other LTE phones before the N5, same story as me.  However my question to you is this:  Everyone says how great an RF performer this phone is but, in my experience, I do not get band 25 in all the places that my S4 did.  It seems my S4 always had a strong LTE signal (it was the single band version) everywhere I went and my N5 rarely wants to connect to band 25 at all.  Right now I am bouncing between 3G and band 26 LTE.  How has your N5 experience been?

  7. I'm tossing this out into the universe and hoping Robert or someone else can shed a little light on this for me.  I know that Atlanta is essentially complete and only the problem towers remain.  One of those is right across

Is there any way to find out why, exactly, this site has yet to be upgraded to LTE?  It is a problem for us in this area due to the sunken nature of the topography here which prevents those of us in this little depression from connecting to more elevated towers to our north, south and east. OF COURSE it's the tower closest to me!  lol

  8. Come to think of it, the issue could also be that of capacity.  I have noticed some towers on my side of town will still give me 25 to 30meg down during the day but other towers in more conjested areas would barely get me to 2megs down during the day.

Yeah.  I live and work in Midtown and Buckhead and the towers here typically give between 2 and 4 down.  Just a lot of people on them.  Though my friends on other carriers in the exact same areas get about ten times faster DL speeds.  I dunno.  But the speeds I get are at least usable and far better than pre NV conditions.

  9. If you forced LTE Only it should not have fallen back to 3G, even after an airplane toggle. If it lost LTE signal it would show no bars at all. That doesn't make sense. Sure you enabled LTE only in the right place?

Sorry..no I just left that part out when I was typing.  LTE only did nothing at that point so put it back on LTE/CDMA Auto PRL.  That is when I thought I saw a flash of LTE.  Then I toggled twice and go those two results mentioned above.  Sorry..got ahead of myself while I was typing.  But right now it's back and forth between 3G and LTE on B26.  If it falls to 3G  and i toggle airplane mode, it jumps right back on b26.

  10. Dumb question, but have you tried updating profile? I had issues a while back and that helped me in the past.

Ya know what?  I was at first like, "yes, I've done that a thousand times!"  And I have done it many times.  However....I did it again just now and for the very firs time I connected to Band 26 at home.  Freaky but awesome!  Maybe after I adjusted the band priorities according to a previous post today and then did the PRL update it might have made B26 look more appealing to the device than band 25.  Huh....whatever the reason I'm definitely stoked!

  11. That could be the hard part. I'm confident there is an issue. What this issue is, I'm not sure, but it sure is acting weird. Just keep trying until you get an knowledgeable repair tech. And don't let them get off with the "towers are being upgraded" or "wait until the network is finished" because we already know that it is finished.

Alright.  It's walking distance and I need to stop by the CVS next door to it anyway.  So I'm gonna buck up and walk over there and try my best not to be sarcastic in my dealings with them (personal fault, I know).  ...evolving story.

  12. That is normal. Give B41 & B26 a 1. It will scan for those two first.

Alright.  I did that and then I forced it to LTE only.  It didn't find a signal (there is LTE here in this location).  So I toggled airplane mode and for a brief flash of a fraction of a second, it indicated a strong LTE signal (full bars) before immediately falling back to a moderate 3G signal.  So I toggled it again.  Same thing.  Brief flash of LTE and then back to 3G (with really decent speeds on 3G, mind you).  I'm on wifi at home of course and so it's not the biggest issue right here.  But I wanted to share my findings.

Also while at work yesterday I did force it into LTE only mode and DID connect to LTE but not nearly as strong of a signal as my GS4 picked up in the exact same location.  I will try talking to Sprint again in the store nearest me but the last 2 times I went in they seemed to not even know what ecsfb is nor anything about network vision 2.0.  The tech wouldn't even look at my phone. He just said, "oh yeah, just give it some time.  Once the towers are upgraded it will be fine."

That's why I let it ride out so long.  Unless they can demonstrate that the phone is, in fact, faulty then I can get a replacement from Google.  But I need them to definitively tell me/prove it first.

  13. It does have a designated semi-private spot on my nightstand. It's not mixed race, it's 100% black. I always take my N5.. but the wife usually comes too. I've let my N5 play on T-Mobile, but only briefly, and it made me uncomfortable. Hmm..

Side note: Just saw the details about Sterling's punishment, nice to see the maximums applied. Interesting that he hasn't said a word this entire time.. guess he finally learned to keep his mouth shut, just a little too late.

    -Mike

    "100% black"

    ^^this!!

  14. When you set them you use ones and zeros. I have noticed that after changing priorities it only switches to saying 1-2-3 after connecting to LTE. So I'm assuming that its the network saying, "Hey that's wrong. Here's your priorities idiot."

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

    LOL!  You're probably right!

  15. All the priorities do is tell the phone what to scan for first. The network actually decides what band to put and keep you on.

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

I took the advice and grabbed that app as well.  However I, too, noticed the issue with the app setting the priorities differently from what i originally had in place.  I wonder why that is.  Also, if I actually go in using the*#*#3282#*#* method, the only choices I get for band priority are 0 or 1.  There is not even an option for a 2 or a 3 and all 3 bands I have set to "enable."  Is that odd or is that normal?

  16. You thought I was being sarcastic?  I was not being sarcastic.  I will have to work on my tone.  I was trying to get across fatherly and direct.

    Robert

Ha well thanks. I am not as tech savvy as most in this forum (which is why this has been difficult to grasp for me) but I'm still the king nerd in my circle of friends.
  17. Why is this difficult? Put into LTE Only mode. Drive around. If you are getting normal LTE signals where you go, the problem is CSFB. Also, you can compare with other Spark devices. It won't hurt anything. Because if it's CSFB, it will affect them all, not just the N5.

Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

Whoa..relax guys. Seriously. I appreciate the input and will do as you guys say. I definitely appreciate the input for sure but not the sarcasm. Geez!! I'll report back my findings later today.
  18. It doesn't have to be a nexus. Wouldn't any triband device provide the same result? Spark update or not. Shouldn't matter.

    Sent from my Nexus 5

I don't think so because it wouldn't be apples to apples, right? Because this phone really isn't triband yet. Not until the update. I may be missing something...?
  19. Then I highly doubt your phone is defective. That sounds like ecsf/csfb issues or they're doing some sort of tower work. If your location is supposed to have ecsfb/csfb live and working then I'd swing by your local tower and see if they're doing work, and I'd call Sprint customer care or whatever it is to let them know what's going on(granted they're usually useless but its still worth it).

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Cool. Thanks for your input. It's been going on for more than 6 weeks but perhaps you're right. I did call them a few weeks ago but they said no tower work was going on.
