  1. Everyone says how great the RF performance is with this phone but mine has been really terrible. At work and at home - places I had a strong LTE signal on my GS4 - I'm stuck on 3G. I do get 1.5 - 2 down on NV 3G but why is this phone's RF performance so awful? I am now rarely on LTE where I used to be over 90% of the time with my GS4. what gives?

  2. One last idea.  Return the Nexus 5 and get another phone, on April 10th or whatever day it's going to be in stores return the 2nd phone and get the M8.

    I love the way you think ; o )

  3. The reason I asked is that I was seeking to return my N5 and I only have 3 days left to do it.  I was thinking of switching it for the new One.  But I see that won't be possible as someone already described above.  I only wish the guy that stole my GS4 had waited a few more weeks!

  4. Which means if you wan't to buy it on Easy Pay (as an existing customer) you are out of luck until April.  For whatever reason only new lines can use Easy Pay online.

    I see. Thank you.

  5. Anyone know anything about the Sprint blank text messages from "9479" issue?  I tried searching this topic using keyword "9479" but no results were found. I really don't have time to read 256 pages of dialogue to find out so if anyone could point me in the right direction or provide a possible alternate link that may shed some light on possible resolution, I'd be thrilled.  Thanks!

  6. It's known from Sprint PR that Nexus 5s were being used for Band 41 testing at a NASCAR event a few weeks ago, so the updated radio is surely ready to go unless they found new problems in the meantime.Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Well my god it can't come soon enough. Band 25 is getting rather bogged down here in Atlanta and we could seriously use some offloading to free up some bandwidth. The more Spark enabled phones, the better. This electronic freeway is starting to look like rush hour on the Downtown Connector!

P.s..anyone know how to sync fb contacts to the N5? My old GS4 did this flawlessly. I didn't realize it wasn't baked into the 4.4 OS!

  7. Egypt Sherrod has made me well versed in the neighborhoods of Atlanta. :D

I had no clue who she was until I looked her up after reading your comment. Yeah there have been numerous HGTV type shows featuring homes all over this city the past few years. Not to mention a ridiculous number of major Hollywood movies being/been filmed in part or completely here. This has as much to do with the generally agreeable weather as it does with generous state and municipal tax incentives.

  8. Recent sighting of 1x800 here in the midtown Atlanta area.  I work in an underground office, and previously only received one bar of Verizon roaming.  This morning I'm receiving three of sprint!  Here's the some screenshots of the engineering screen.

Is this indicative of testing on one of the downtown sites?  The maps on S4GRU only show 800 upgrades to the southern and eastern suburbs.

Midtown Atlanta?  Now you're talking my language.  I live between Midtown and Buckhead off Peachtree.  But I noticed the same thing.  All of the 800 acceptances thus far (at least that we know of from Robert's source) have been outside the Perimeter (I-285 for those not familiar)...off to the south and east.  However, the reach of 800 is greatly improved over the propagation characteristics of a 1900 mhz signal so it's possible you connected to one of those. But I think the more likely scenario here is that new towers have had 800 voice activated closer to or within the city and that is what you are connecting to based on your signal strength deep inside the building you work in.  I just don't think you'd have had such a strong signal from a tower so distant and outside the urban core.  I would also venture to guess that even though 800 covers a pretty large area that the RF engineers have adjusted the downtilt more (in those southern and eastern suburbs) than those towers would be if they were in a truly rural area.

All of what I'm saying is pure conjecture at this point and I guess we'll have to wait and see what the next round of 800 voice acceptances shows when Robert posts it.

That said...I just updgraded to signal check pro to see if I could get 800 voice and...so far, not yet.

  9. These days I consistently get 3G speeds of 1Mbps or more, sometimes even 2+ Mbps. Coupled with low latency on eHRPD, I find it to be eminently usable for most purposes. Most Sprint critics won't believe, or remember, but around 2007-2008, Sprint's EvDO network regularly beat out all three competitors. Back then, HSDPA wasn't a thing, so all GSM carriers had was EDGE.It's good to see Sprint's 3G network back performing the way it should always have.

Yes I remember the "Sprint Speed" commercials back then when I was living in Cincinnati. It really was industry leading at the time and, yes, fast (relatively speaking).

  10. Whatever Robert and AJ suggest is likely spot on.  In fact, it IS spot on.   So consider their awesome information wisely.

On another note, I was at a Sprint store in Buckhead last night here in Atlanta (had to get a replacement battery because my significant other decided it'd be fun to dunk my GS4 in beer at my birthday party on Friday night) and I had the chance to try out 3 spark enabled phones.  All of them were connected to band 41 at the time even though Atlanta hasn't yet officially launched as a Spark market.

The three phones were: the LG G Flex, the Samsung GS4T and the Samsung GS4 mini.  All were pulling download speeds in excess of 42 mbps with the G Flex topping the list at over 49 mbps.  I was BLOWN away.  I got my new battery and fired up my GS4 (on only 1900 mhz) and was still impressed at around 9 mbps.  That's more than enough for anything you're gonna do on a cell phone but to give you and idea of what can be...well, 40+ mbps is what can be!

You've got a decision to make.  Hopefully the info you've gleaned here as well as from the Sponsor maps will aid you in your decision making progress.

    Happy Wednesday!

  11. Just good, old fashioned, they can't seem to get it done.  The 'brown dot' sites are still not converted to Network Vision and probably have a variety of permitting, owner or contractor issues.  The red/light blue marker sites (3G only) are suffering from backhaul install issues.  It's just a mess.

    Robert

Great. Because Capitol Hill needs yet one more way in which to remain disconnected.
