  1. I don't mean to be rude by saying this but I'm infinitely perplexed as to why you would even post this.  Clearly the information you seek is precisely the incentive for non sponsors to become sponsors.  That's like going to your teacher and saying "I need an A in this class because it's a pre requisite for my program but, hey, I don't wanna do any work for the A.  is that cool?"

  2. Now that the Sprint HTC One has received its 4.4 update to Kit Kat...anyone know when we single band S4 owners can expect it?  I was thinking that in order to not diminish the S5's appeal at its unveling later this month, Samsung may decide to wait to give the S4 4.4 until after the S5 is publicly available in March or April.  I dunno..just a thought.  Anyone heard anything?

  3. This is awful but something we all need to remember does happen.  It's an exceedingly dangerous job and sometimes we're guilty of taking our generally reliable wireless connections for granted.  So as we sit in the park playing Candy Crush Saga we should also remember the sacrifices it took to even enable the modern world in which we all live.

    Thanks for posting.

  4. Is it possible to generate a theoretical coverage map with 800 MHz fully deployed? It'd be really cool to see how much sprint is going to cover thanks to 800. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I thought I saw something like this toward the very beginning of the NV 1.0 rollout.  That is to say I'm about positive I saw a map showing the hypothetical 800mhz (presumably voice) coverage post rollout.  Does anyone have a link to this map?  AJ, Robert..anyone?  Or am I just imagining things?

  5. As far as I understand it, a client-initiated request for a new copy of the CDMA programming information for the device, including PTN/MSID, and more specifically, the Data Profile, including username and password, which governs EV-DO data calls.

Any information beyond that will have to come from someone who more deeply understands how CDMA works.

*KSSHT* AJ to aisle 3, AJ to aisle 3... *KSSHT*

    Thank you for the response.

  6. I apologize in advance if this is a silly question but I've always wondered. ..what, exactly, IS a "profile update"?

That's the error I usually see if, when trying to program and activate a device, something goes wrong. Similarly, if the esn\ptn\msid combo does not match.A refresh is usually just a remote-initiated profile update. If it happens again, try that first.

  7. Yes. Please limit the bugs this summer. Last summer's incessant rains and mild temps only provided the best possible environment for bugs to breed and thrive in. Here's hoping this winter's multitude of hard freezes only serves to hamper their reproduction!!!

  8. Yes but show-rooms are important.

Look at bank. Over the past twenty years, many people declared "the end of the bank branch" due to ATMs, online, and now mobile banking.

And yet theyre building more of them now than ever. Why? The storefront is a giant ad.

For cell stores, besides seeing the sign/brand on the side of the road every day, the store lets you feel the phones before you buy, and for many people, its an essential customer service / support area.

If the closest repair/help store is an hour away, you might not be so keen on the brand.

Also, I have a feeling people associate stores with coverage. "Therese 5 Sprint stores there and no Tmobile stores....Sprint probably has better service there"

Sadly I know that you are correct.  Most people really do have thought processes that basic, be it conscious or subconscious.  So I totally get your drift.

  9. Best Buy has $150 fee for damage not resulting from accident. So a cracked screen or water damage will result on this been charged. We used to have customers come in 3 or 4 times a year with damage to their phones. This definitely is not a money maker. This also aligned Best Buy with the rest of the market.

Of the few advantages is that Best Buy does allow for a 1 time battery replacement and charger and a loaner phone is provided should the defective unit be unusable. Replacement of defective phones is limited to 3 instances in a 2 year period. Not to mention many locations. With some of the carriers you actually have to send a phone in and or wait for the replacement unit.

All phones at all retailers and carriers are refurb.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am currently employed by Best Buy. The opinion herein is my own. They do not represent any endorsement of their services.

That's what I figured - that they now charge a deductible.  I knew it had changed, just wasn't sure entirely how.  That said, I was grandfathered in, per the geek squad rep who last replaced my cracked phone.  But, like I said, that was my third replacement with no deductible.  I definitely see why they changed it.

As an aside, I did finally purchase a Samsung case for the GS4 upon my last replacement.  I haven't had an issue since.  Funny how that works, eh?  : o )

  10. I purchased mine through Best Buy last spring.  It is a $10 per month, $0 deductible.  I have had 3 replacements.  The screen cracks very easily on the GS4.  Much more easily than on my GS2.  But I have paid Best Buy precisely $0 for any of the 3 replacements.  I just traded in my 3 cracked devices for 3 new (possibly refurbished, I don't know) ones.  It was a FAR better option than Sprint's insurance plan which was one more dollar per month and carried a hefty deductible.

I do think that Best Buy's plans changed last August and that they may carry a deductible now and you are also now limited to a certain # of replacements from what I understand.   Of course to get their plan you would need to have purchased your device through Best Buy.
