  1. Just a note: Signal Check will provide signal data from a decommissioned phone: The phone still gets the data, it just can't connect to the cell. I was able to view 1X1900, EvDo, and WiFi information on my disconnected 0G EVO, and subject to its somewhat weak radio, it was giving me equivalent readings to my GS3 (obviously, minus the LTE and any 800).

But, my GS3 doesn't seem to beep, chirp, chime, belch, or otherwise call out when it connects to 1X800 - 1X800 shows on the display, but the phone is ominously silent.

But I still really, really like the app. Thanks again and again.

Are you sure that is reporting correct data?!?! I didn't think the OG Evo supported 800Mhz SMR voice.

  2. Excellent. How soon will we see an LTE connection in Delta Twp., would you estimate? Do you think it'll be a signal strong enough to get indoors?

No clue, the tower by the old GM plants was a month from panel install until LTE was live. However, the tower on the southside between Lansing Rd and Billwood Hwy was a week or two.

The Tower on Saginaw Hwy near Meijer (behind the buffet place) got new panels and RRUs on Monday & Tuesday of this week. I haven't seen anything on the tower down by Horrocks yet. I'd guess that the Meijer area will have LTE in the next month. As for working indoors, it will just depend on how far you are from the tower and what the building you are in is constructed from. Many things can limit RF propagation.

  3. Anybody on the southwest side of Lansing or maybe Diamondale with a quality camera? I need a HQ pic of the top rack of the Tower on between Lansing Rd and Billwood Hwy near the State of Michigan Secondary complex. You can get close to the tower off from Lansing Rd, turning right/north into an old Home builders lot just before News Rd.

I believe this tower has new NV antennas and Samsung RRUs, but the picture from my Note 2 is way too grainy when I zoom in. I need optical zoom, not digital zoom. You may be able to get close to the tower via Billwood Hwy, but the access road appears to be the end of a private driveway, just past the Lake Trust Credit Union.

Sprint Tower on Grand River Ave and Ingersoll Rd has new panels and RRUs

both of these sites were accepted for LTE :)

  4. Amazing post AJ...I always dropped calls on I-88 in the Sterling/Rock Falls, IL vicinity when going from the corp. network to iPCS network. When I talked with the iPCS engineers they knew about the problem and was told it was equipment incompatibilities. The write up above shows the complexity of switching a call between markets. I imagine it is more complex with another party involved such as Nex-Tech or one of the remaining affiliates.

Getting the same hardware in a region is just one of many complexities as AJ notes. Has anyone done any testing across NV OEM borders to see if there are any issues like the legacy Motorola equipment saw in Chicago?

  5. Whoops, but it in the wrong thread. Apparently there is a soak test on going for an upgrade to the Photon Q over at xda

There is a link over at xda for the soak test, it's 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. I've downloaded and will install it on my wife's Q tonight.

  6. I go on vacation, and this is the first thing I read when I get back. Oh, my God, no. This is conceivably the worst thing for Sprint. It would be better to go it alone than to be owned by Charlie. Charlie will destroy anything and everything at Sprint, both good and bad. And the debt burden would be very unwieldy. Making it difficult to spend the capex in the future necessary to stay competitive in the future. Ergen can't handle dynamic competition. He's used to a duopoly.

Charlie is a greedy bastard, he will impose data caps and will fleece every last penny from Sprint subs...

  7. I've had a problem with Sprint's coverage map since the Alltel debacle a few years back when the "On Network" coverage was reduced by something like 1/3rd over night with no real reason why. As we found out, do to the Alltel/Sprint network share agreement, Sprint was listing Alltel's network as "On Network" and it looked like Sprint Native coverage. When Verizon bought Alltel, just a ton of what was thought to be Sprint's network disappeared.

I really wish that Sprint would add a new color to the map for its partners where you are on a different network, but it appears as not roaming.
