  1. Not anymore at least in my market. I have a soft cap with Comcast at 300 GB a month with 3 months of allowed overage followed by $10 per 50 gb bucket.

Ouch. I've never come close to even 50gb on my home wifi. I don't even want it anymore. My wife and I are such casual users at home, that buying 1gb hotspot from sprint would be fine for those two, or three times a month we use a PC or laptop. I really only have wifi because I haven't figured out a way to be able to backup our iPhones without wifi. If I find a workaround that doesn't involve jail breaking, I'm cutting the Comcast cord.

  2. Why is it that even after updating to the new crapatalk 3.0, my notifications still look like shit.

What is all of this crap and why is it still here. I figured after I updated to be newest crap version, they would've resolved this.

Go into the app settings, and under push notifications for this forum, make sure "subscribed topics" is turned off.

  3. I just sent a message to 808Bill. We'll see what happens...

The important thing for me, granted the prioritization concerns me no matter the plan, but the unlimited guarantee was told to me as a means of never losing that plan, where carriers can remove unlimited plans at any time without that guarantee. Sure sounds like a marketing gimmick, if they end up keeping the non-guaranteed unlimited plans, but if not, then there is a real benefit to the guarantee.

I wouldn't worry about that marketing gimmick of a "guarantee," nor would I base my plan purchase off of it. I think that was just a shot at other carriers, as in "they've taken it away, but we won't." Unlimited isn't going anywhere, at least for the foreseeable future. Look at Verizon and AT&T, they did away with unlimited years ago, but people still have it.

  4. I had to swap phones on my account and I'm not able to activate wifi calling on my iPhone anymore. Has anyone had this issue with getting wifi calling to activate on their iPhone?

It's hit or miss. It has something to do with the provisioning. Call sprint and ask them to add wifi calling, and to re provision your phone. Or, try and remove/re-add wifi calling online, then dial ##update# and ##clear# to re-activate your device.

  5. I am on iOS 8.1.2. This past winter, I jail broke the phone and installed the Sprint carrier hack from iTweak iOS. I am considering updating to 8.3. Do I need to install iFile and uninstall the carrier hack before updating? I'm scared that updating to 8.3 without removing the hack may mess it up.

Just make sure you do a full restore in iTunes. Nothing should get messed up, as installing a new OS will overwrite every jailbreak tweak you have. It will make it completely stock. You could probably do an OTA through the phone, but a clean wipe/install is always best.

  6. I might get some complaints for saying this, but I think if a network gets that bad during congestion where people are getting around 1 mbps or less, than that is a real problem that needs to be resolved by building a better network in those areas. With technology advancing as it is, I just don't believe that is acceptable.

It's a problem that will never go away. In fact, it's just going to continually get worse as smartphone content grows and grows. LTE is a shared medium. Spectrum is limited, and backhaul is, too. Providers can only build so many sites, and expand their spectrum holdings in a particular place so much. It eventually hits a wall. Smart cellular consumers have to know this, and accept it to an extent. If I'm at a football game with 35,000 people, and get pissed because I can't load up an HD video, then I'm uneducated.

  7. Poor Verizon and ATT, I'm sure they're the top two used networks for everyone their. I wonder if they have mobile cell sites somewhere

Well, they had that whole draft town set up in Grant Park or Millennium Park, I forget which one. I didn't go, but I can guarantee some, if not all providers had a C.O.W there. That seems to be the norm these days with large gatherings in cities.

  8. BTW Vince, have you been to the store on Ogden in Downers Grove? It is a corporate store and is very nice inside, great employees too!

I don't think so. The one in Woodridge is only a few miles from me, and I've had good experiences there, even though I've only been there twice. Once to buy my iPhone 6 in September, and once a month ago to re-activate a line.

  9. Over the air hd antennas are all that's required for these free channels. If you need an internet connection then it's no longer free. If you need an internet connection, you'll probably need a wired connection, and that means cable. If you expect cable companies to give you free channels instead of requiring a cable subscription that certainly won't happen.

I get free basic cable with my Comcast Internet. Not intentionally, but rather as a side effect of having a live line into my home. Shh, don't tell anyone. [emoji6]

  10. Don't forget, that with the tens of thousands, if not more tourists, players, media, and NFL people in town this weekend for the draft, every cellular network will surely be crushed downtown. They're all on their phone.

  11. When in my office building at the Loop or my apartment on the West Loop my phone keeps changing antenna connections and usually latches to seemingly congested antennas. In my office building my phone has a tendency to latch to a band 41 antenna with close to 0 throughput. In my apartment it usually latches to a band 26 antenna with a very good throughput but for some reason it frequently drops that connection and connects to a 3G antenna. It's kind of frustrating. Overall service is better but it's still not reliable, especially inside structures.

That seems to still be an ongoing issue in our market. The band switching/load balancing issues haven't been completely ironed out yet, on top of many sites/clusters not being optimized for the best signal.

  12. Anyone experiencing problems inside structures at the Loop and the West Loop? I just want to know if this is something that will improve in the months ahead.

    Thank you,

What kind of problems? No service? LTE->3G drops? Slower data?

  13. Hi S4GRU readers and members!

Welcome! I see you're in Burr Ridge. I live down the street in Willowbrook. The Internet is a small place sometimes. You should join the discussion over in the Chicago thread. We have several, but you can find our general discussion here:

    http://www.s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/1084-Network-Vision-LTE---Chicago-Market

There is nearly 3 years of discussion there. You will see the transition from the beginning of network vision, to becoming one of Sprint's best markets. We have a good group there of knowledgable and observant members from all corners of the market. If you have any Chicago market specific questions, feel free to ask us.

  14. I would post some screenshots but that appears to not be allowed in this thread. Most of my speed tests are coming in with pings under 40 ms. One speed test on CA today came in at 23 ms!

That's because you're postpaid. Go to www.iplocation.net and see where you're connected to. It will list a city. On cricket, it was always in California or Texas.

  15. Latency is significantly higher on AT&T than any other network. Consistently whatever market I go to. I don't get it.

It must be at the MSC/DDC level where it is occurring. For me, it makes no difference, though. It more than meets my needs. Anything under 180-200ms meets my needs. I'm not a gamer.

    Using Moto X² on Tapatalk

Especially Cricket with their proxy servers 2500 miles from Chicago. 130ms was the best I saw.

  16. AT&T is now running AWS on 10x10 in Chicago. The engineering screen on my phone confirmed it up the Skyway and around Bridgeport. They must've shut down the Leap network already.

Is that recent? B4 was only 5x5 when I was testing cricket last month. Man, I was thoroughly impressed with the strength and reliability of AT&T's network. The only thing that bothered me was the latency and the lack of an unlimited plan. If those were changed, my money would be going there every month.

  17. Vegas has a ton of band 41, and works fine off the strip. At least it did when I was there in September. I'm sure it has improved drastically since then. Sprint just needs two things there: first, they desperately need the SBC b.s. to wrap up and get band 26 launched and tuned. Second, they need to prioritize every single tower and DAS on the strip. Tourism is huge there, and as a tourist, I don't care if I get 60mbps in Henderson, but can't escape 3G on the strip.
