  1. I was looking on Yelp and there's a place in Barrington that fixes iPhone screens (and has a $10 off coupon!) so I may check them out later this week.

If the price is around what Apple charges, I would go to Apple. At least you know you're getting a genuine OEM replacement, and work done by a knowledgable technician. Plus, if they screw up, they might just swap the phone. I have a hard time trusting those strip mall cellular shops that sometimes use knockoff Chinese parts from eBay, and charge OEM prices. That's just me, though.

  2. I use the Apple leather case on my 6+. It's solely for adding grip for the phone. Plus, I do really like this case. I had one for my 5s and love how it adds some grip and some nice style to my phone without making it bulky.

I don't think I've seen one for the 6+ in person yet. I also had one for my 5s and liked it, even though it was damn near impossible to remove.

  3. I want to try and find a clear protective case. The phone is so awesome looking. It would be a shame to cover it up. I am normally not a person who likes gold. I prefer silver and pewter, but when I saw the white and gold version of the 6+ it was a must have... The gold is not gaudy or obnoxious at all.

I have a matte slim case, and it's only for grip. I bought my phone from a guy on swappa, and he included a clear incipio case with it. It's nice, but it so slippery that I can't use it. I have my days where I want to trade for a 6 just so I can go case-less, and actually be able to use the phone without it slipping to the ground. I really shouldn't care, though, as I purchased square trade insurance (basically, AppleCare+ for used phones).

  4. I have been watching this thread for a while, hopefully those of you that have experience with the sprint unlocking process can shed some light. I currently have an active iphone 6 on contract that I would like to move to a GSM provider. I will do the port to the new provider using a temporary unlocked GSM device. Does anyone know how long after I port I will be able to have my current sprint iphone unlocked? I'm guessing I will have to pay my final bill with ETF, etc. I should be able to unlock soon after I pay my final bill, correct? As a sidenote, I currently have another line in in the same account, under contract, that will remain with sprint, hopefully this does not cause any problems.

After your final bill + ETF are paid, you should become eligible. The other contracted line does not matter.

  5. So what you're saying is even if my 6+ 's installment billing has been paid off and have since closed out that line, that Sprint will not unlock my 6+ because I still have a line on my account that is still currently under contract?

No. If your line was clear of installment before porting out, you're fine. Call Sprint. They'll ask for your number when you were a customer. You may have made a mistake by porting out before being unlocked. I think you'll need to be on the Sprint network for them to send the unlock code? This is just what I've read, even though the unlock gets sent to Apple, and is based on the IMEI number in their database.

  6. I am thinking of purchasing the iPhone 6 Plus 128 GB Gold...

Honestly, it could stand to be a little bit louder. Are there phones that are quieter? Sure. Are there phones that are louder, and possibly more "tinny" sounding? Probably. It's fine. The important part is the audio quality. It's crystal clear. Pair that with Sprint-to-Sprint HD voice, and you're good. The vibrate motor is fine, too. I also work in a loud environment (truck driver), and without the led notification flash turned on, I would probably miss some calls. When I'm out and about, and in a quieter environment, I can usually hear the phone, and feel the phone vibrate with no problem--more so if I'm sitting, and the phone is tight to my leg. You could always try it for the 14 days and return it if it's not satisfactory. You'll get hit with a re-stocking fee, though.

  7. Mines is currently in active but paid off and it was on my main line that is under contract but was told to take it off of there and to call back. I did that and then they said the phone couldn't be unlocked and then I got the request of going to apple but they are rejecting it probably because it's a replacement device and the device needs to be manually unlocked.

Don't waste your time with Apple; they can't unlock your phone. All unlock requests have to be initiated by the carrier. If it's inactive, and you're a Sprint customer, your line can not have any installment billing or contract tied to it at all. Even if you paid full price for the iPhone, it does not matter. Your entire line needs to be clear of contracts and installments before they'll even take your request seriously.

How's this for battery life? Of course, I've been sleeping most of the afternoon since I'm sick.

Meh. On a plus, you should be around 7-8 hours usage at that point. That's where I've been at lately with moderate to heavy usage.

  9. In my experience, if the phone is plugged in for longer than 10-20 minutes but not fully charged, it just shows a "—" for the usage times rather than the "iPhone has been plugged in" message. So his phone probably wasn't plugged in for very long.

If you reset or power off, you lose all stats until you charge to 100% again.

  10. Android has the same thing but you have to make sure you select the option of your gmail and not save to phone. It's not instant like iCloud.

Every single aspect of your phone? Every single photo, setting, folder arrangement, alarms, app data, etc.? Or just the apps that you've downloaded, and the basics like contacts and calandar. And is it every single android on the market? Or just a select few.

  11. For anyone who has stopped getting tapatalk notifications, I have found the fix (I think): every once in awhile, tapatalk was prompting me to "notify me every time a subscription was posted to" (or something along those lines). It's a tapatalk box, and not an iOS message, so I kept hitting "not now." Getting alerts for every single subscribed post is annoying (unless that's what you want). I noticed tapatalk wasn't listed under settings - notifications, and I thought to myself "this app has never asked me to approve notifications like every other app." So, when that box popped back up, I decided to try out the "notify me" button. After clicking that, I got the iOS alert asking me to allow tapatalk notifications. Now, tapatalk is listed in settings - notifications. I don't know how to get that tapatalk box to pop up when you want, because it seemed pretty random. But if it does, hit the blue "notify me" button. Someone, please like this post so I can see if it's fixed. I'll edit back.

  12. 8.3 has my phone all types of laggy. The animations can barely make it through without stuttering. Idky it started doing this all of a sudden. I'm gonna take it off and downgrade to 8.2. I'll probably go back when Beta 3 or 4 of 8.3 comes around but I can't stick it out with my phone acting like this.

Just disable those stock animations. I've had them disabled since iOS 7. Settings - general - accessibility - reduce motion: ON.
