  1. Did you have the "Report to Server" "Only Over WiFi" box checked?
  2. Your tone is offensive, and your understanding of my post is inaccurate. As drock2750 correctly points out, after a flurry of mid-fall upgrades, installation of LTE in much of Chicagoland has slowed appreciably. The current RATE of upgrades has little to do with the prior PERCENTAGE of completions, and is a source of frustration. Nothing in my post was a complaint about Sprint's strategy, only a lamentation (shared by the approximately 88% of Sprint customers who are still looking forward to LTE). I have been a loyal Sprint customer for over 14 years, have suffered through the bad years, and have enjoyed the remarkable improvement in service and customer care under Dan Hesse's guidance, and certainly don't need a lecture about my attitude.
  3. If it's any consolation, LTE deployment in the far 'Burbs has recently been even slower than it has been Downtown. There has been little improvement in coverage in the far northwest in weeks, based both on Robert's maps and on Sensorly. I'm sure there is some valid reason for this, but being too impoverished to pay up to the Premier Sponsor level, I am rather puzzled. It is especially frustrating because LTE is SO CLOSE. (I can sometimes get coverage by holding my GS3 at just the right angle in my south-facing, 2nd floor guest bedroom, but it doesn't stay connected very long. Or, I can drive to a park 2 miles south of my house and get blazing speeds. I guess I should just live in my car.) I'm fairly sure that ISN'T any consolation, but it feels so good to get it off my chest!!!!
  4. Based on line colors, these maps probably show the effects of Sprint users' "Sensorly Addiction". Note that the map of The Dark Side shows coverage almost exclusively along expressways and tollways, where the Sprint map shows much neighborhood coverage, This suggests that Sprint Sensorly-addicited nutcakes (like me) spend w-a-a-y too much time using our smart phones as signal monitors and mappers, where Dark Side users spend their time performing more practical activities (like driving). (You can see my contributions to the insanity on the Sensorly mapping of the far Northwest Suburbs.)
  5. There is an update available this morning that fixes the problem.
  6. I too have an S3. I live in the far Northwest Suburbs, and have traveled to the City, through O'Hare, around Woodfield, and into the Wheaton area, and have gotten LTE coverage that has ranged from mediocre to "Wow, this is so fast you've got to be kidding!" Echoing gof, you need to be sure your phone is set up right. If it is, and you're still not getting 4G, you should contact Sprint customer care, as something is likely wrong with the phone. (Sadly, where I live is on the "sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't" fringe of 4G coverage, at least for now.)
  7. You will be very unhappy when you incur the overage charges on the "$260" and "$270" plans from Verizon and AT&T. Sounds like T-Mobile is the place you want to go, and you will likely be happy there if they manage to stay in business. Sprint is just starting to deploy LTE in New York & New Jersey, and while they are certain to make progress, it sounds like you are itching to leave. Wherever you end up, S4GRU folks will wish you the best of luck.
  8. I thought it might be interesting to compare the Sensorly 4G LTE maps of Sprint, The Dark Side (AT&T), and Verizon. Clearly, Sprint is behind The Dark Side, but only very slightly behind. Even Verizon, while it has very broad coverage, is rather spotty and incomplete. (Maps were collected at about 7:00 PM EST, Tuesday, November 20.) (Also, we should probably note that Sprint LTE mappers are obsessed, and many are likely to be deranged :jester: and may drive many, many miles trying to find that elusive LTE, while Dark Side and Verizon mappers may be slightly more normal.) (Thanks to Dkoellerwx for helping me show the full US map. Click on each image to see it in a larger size.)
  9. Nooooooooooooooooooooo! Robert, how can you do this to us? Aren't the 7,001 of us your family? We look up to you like a father!!! A week without Robert is like a week without ... without ... without LTE!!! What could possibly be more important than your 7,001 Network Vision Children???!!! We are devastated!!! We have nothing, nothing to be thankful for!!! This is obviously a Japanese plot to destroy the very fabric of our addiction!!! Woe, Woe, Woe! are we!! (Oh, and have a wonderful week, and thank you for everything you do for us, the addicted!)
  10. Best Buy Rewards says they went live with the $48 price at 11:00 am EST today (Monday) for "Silver Rewards" members. On-line only. Later (Also noted by chanceit): The web site is not showing the correct pricing, but there is a toll-free number listed. I haven't called it yet, as I am waiting to hear from the family member whose phone I am thinking about replacing.
  11. Now if someone would just Black Friday a juice pack so I'd have enough battery to run Sensorly and GPS and CDMA Field Test and Netmonitor and Speed Test and all the other stuff I need to run on my GS3 to be a true S4GRU-connected LTE addict. Le Sigh . . .
  12. I will try to get my daughter (a professional singer) to do it. The graphics could be very stimulating. "Walk of Wimax" is easier to rhyme, but somehow just doesn't sound right.
  13. I Want My LTE (Sung to “Money for Nothin’”, with abject apologies to Dire Straits) Look at them yo-yo's, that's the way you do it You get your signal on the LTE That ain't workin', that's the way you do it Get your 4-G for nothin' and your texts for free. No, that ain't workin', that's the way you do it: Lemme tell ya, Hesse-san ain't dumb Maybe get a blister on his check-signing finger, Maybe get a blister on his texting thumb He’s gotta install microwave dishes Custom panel deliveries He’s gotta move those RRU boxes He’s gotta upgrade to Sprint N-Vee! Up on the tower with the hard hat and the take-up Yeah buddy he’s in the air! The tower monkey got his own jet man-lift! The tower monkey he's a millionaire! He’s gotta install microwave dishes Custom panel deliveries He’s gotta move those RRU boxes He’s gotta upgrade to Sprint N-Vee I shoulda' learned to run a man-lift, I should be climbin’ to level three! Look at that monkey, got antennas on his flat-bed Man he’s up there, high and free! He's up there, makin’ H-Band noises, Bangin' on the cross-struts like a chimpanzee! That ain't workin', that's the way you do it Get your 4-G for nothin', get your texts for free We gotta install microwave dishes Custom panel deliveries We gotta move those RRU boxes We gotta upgrade to Sprint N-Vee-ee! No, that ain't workin', that's the way you do it You get your signal on the LTE That ain't workin', that's the way you do it Get your 4-G for nothin', get your texts for free, Get your 4-G for nothin', get your texts for free! (Obviously I am deranged and have w-a-a-a-y too much time on my hands.)
  14. As an example, O'Hare has had excellent Wimax for years, at least in the domestic terminals. After NV is complete, you would expect the deployment to be at least as dense, and the signal strength to be as good or (probably) better. Last weekend, LTE was available in Terminal 1, but not fast. I will try to check again today. The Sensorly map corroborates that O'Hare has good but not great coverage in the terminals.
  15. Thanks for your reply. Nope, it stopped working before the update, so I am fairly sure that the 'force stop' (or something related to it) was at least part of my loss of carrier data. Anyone have any thoughts?
  16. After I got the OTA but didn't start it right away, I used this method to load Jelly Bean and it ultimately worked. However, the first couple of times that I tried it, I missed the "force stop" step, and from that point forward (even after the successful J B update) my S3 isn't able to find the CDMA BID, NID, BSID, nor any of the other CDMA identifying characteristics. This is the case in Netmonitor and CDMA Field Test, and Sensorly fails to detect 2G/3G data (though it does find LTE). Everything else including calling, text, and data seem to work perfectly (and also seem to be somewhat snappier with J B ). What have I done??? And how do I fix it???
  17. At some point, Mount Kellett will want to sell their 7.3% stock holding and get out of Clearwire. Obviously, Mount Kellett is trying to blackmail Sprint (=Softbank) into paying an early premium for Mount Kellett's stock by threatening expensive (but most likely unsuccessful) legal action, in order to remove Mount Kellett as an objector (and potential litigant). I suspect Hesse (=Son) willl eventually tell them to pound sand.
  18. Where/when/how did you get 2.1.10B2? This version doesn't show upon their web site, nor does my GS3 show an available update.
  19. Driving this morning on I-90 from Albert Lea west to South Dakota, virtually the entire route had a strong case of eHerpes. Once I crossed into S. Dakota, service fell back to EVDO-a. It looks like Sprint NV is making substantial progress in southern Minnesota.
  20. Much confusion. Can someone please post a link to some sort of description of Sprint's current and future spectrum usage, and which phones use what is operating now. I'm sure it's out there somewhere, so no need to clutter up this thread with repetitive redundancy. Thanks in advance.
  21. LTE at home, south end of Crystal Lake, this morning. Slow and unpredictable (1.0-1.7 Mbps down, 0.3-2.2 Mbps up), but actually here for the first time that I have seen. The connection stayed up for about half an hour, then reverted to eHRPD, then went back to LTE. I seem to be in a fringe area at the moment. Trying to map on Sensorly. Later: Yaay! Sensorly mapped it, along with an area I just drove through on Miller and Swanson Roads. Signal strength is indicated as fairly weak, which seems right. This LTE seems to be coming from a tower about 5 miles away (I won't say exactly where, because I can't remember if this is a Sponsor forum: It is the closest "4G" tower on last week's map, and tracks nicely with Sensorly's signal strength colors). When Sprint lights up my nearest tower (about 1.5 miles), I would hope the signal would be huge! [Echoing someone's earlier post: I can't believe how obsessed I'm getting with this LTE thing !]
  22. Are other people having problems with Sensorly? I am unable to connect to their web site on multiple computers using multiple browsers, nor on my GS3 using Dolphin. When I run the mapping app on my phone, it counts points (Yay! I'm getting tiny amounts of LTE on the south side of Crystal Lake, IL!), but never updates points on the map, nor does it appear to transmit results. Anyone have any insight???????
  23. Was driving in McHenry County this afternoon and saw a crew working on the NV level of Xxxxxxxxx at IL-120 and Thompson Rd., just south of Wonder Lake. Two guys at the top of the tower and about three on the ground. Whoever pointed out that the NV panels are as big as a person was right. It will be interesting to see how soon the LTE lights up on that tower. I was on the way back from picking up my shiny new $99 S3 from Best Buy, and saw only a tiny flash of LTE anywhere on my route from McHenry to Woodstock to LITH to Crystal Lake (I took the long way home), that being just north of the LITH airport and for only a few yards. Tried to map on Sensorly, but had just loaded it on the new phone, and don't think it worked, although the little purple patch on Rakow Rd looked slightly bigger when I checked tonight (at least in my imagination). Strangely, earlier I gave Wimax one last speed test before they shut down my old Evo, and got over 10 mbits down at Rt 14 and IL 176 in C L, faster Wimax than I had ever before seen in C L in 1 1/2 years. Later: Both Sensorly and Speed Test say that I am getting ehrpd at home in Crystal Lake, but the data rates are only about half what I was getting on evdo-a on my old phone. I will compare side by side with my daughter's old evo tomorrow.
  24. Interestingly, I just received a $34.95/month offer for unlimited 4G home internet service (Wimax) in the mail yesterday from Clear. I live in far NW suburban Chicago, and (although this is not relevant to Wimax) according to Sensorly, LTE has crept to within about 1 1/2 miles of my house from 2 directions. Clearly, Clear is still marketing (sorry, couldn't resist), and not just to underserved and rural areas, as my neighborhood has both Comcast and Uverse as well as strong coverage from AT&T Wireless, Verizon, T-Mo, and US Cellular. (Unfortunately, my house has aluminum siding, so I have to stand by an open, west-facing window to get Wimax on my aging EVO. If I got a Clear antenna and used their Internet package, I would actually get equal or better speeds than my current fiber-optic DSL, as I have proven by standing outside and running speed tests on my phone. My neighbors know that I'm crazy.)
