  1. I'm sitting here on the fourth floor of the library next to a window with what my phone is describing as"good" WiMax signal. I am assuming it has to do with having greater building clearance because from what I understand, WiMax is garbage at getting through brick and limestone (what every building in Indiana is made of.) I'm just wondering if there are any more advantages besides clearance. Really, who knew all I had to do is climb two sets of stairs to increase my speed 20x. Sent from my Evo Design 4g on a dying network.
  2. Hi. Midwesterner here. We get plenty of rain. I would always notice signal die during a storm on WiMax but 3G was always unaffected. I know this question has already been answered but I thought I'd throw in my support.
  3. To the first answer I can answer from experience yes. I'd actually disagree with the moving up to 3G though. If they did it would only feel past due and might not even help that much. I recall getting speeds of around 50kbps on ol' 2G data, lived on it for a year in Bloomington IN. I'd say focus all efforts to beefing up the backend so 3G actually outperforms 2G in all areas and pressing on with 4G. As I know it, most people in this country are covered by 3G, however shoddy it may be, I just can't support spending a ton of cash on providing 3G to 4 folks living on a hill somewhere or supplying full tilt EVDO to 3000 cows and one caballaro tending them streaming rocking tunes on Pandora. edit: Alright! member level digital! Sending texts and everything!
  4. I can see this being a good thing. Their LTE plans are surprisingly agressive. At this point, I think Sprint could use a (finally) successful partnership.
  5. That seems decently accurate to me. I'm not all that sure how the whole system works but I'd imagine there is a lot of guess work and maybe some assumptions made based on the towers you can contact. I don't think there is any question that ATT has more towers than Sprint in most areas. May I ask why you don't just use GPS for your location which for me is accurate to something like 6 meters.
  6. It seems like a legitimate post to me. It can be frustrating to have bad signal so I think nova's language got a little more excited, possibly I'm used to dealing with much worse. I think we can break his post down to his expectation to not drop signal when he's paying an additional fee and wondering if it's a technical issue on the device side or the tower side. To which I respond, it sounds like maintenance on the tower. This was happening to me last year and after a couple of days it straightened itself out and speeds were much better. A quick check on Nova's post history shows he is a decent contributor to the forum so I'd cut him some slack.
  7. I have it integrated but I've only done so for about 2 weeks. As far as I can tell, it uses minutes like normally. I know you can make calls over WiFi but I haven't investigated that yet.
  8. This is true. Four phones on our family plan use about 120 min each month out of 1500. It is funny though because two of the phones on our plan use less than 5MB of data, one uses about 1GB, and mine uses 3-4 GB. I think we are a good profit for Sprint, lol. As far as the article goes, I'd very much rather see more expensive phone and more competitive plans. On Sprint, for example, there is no real benefit to buying your phone outright. I think buying it for full price will allow for better competition as well.People often stick with a carrier for the simplicity of it rather than the value of it. Also, this whole iPhone carrier thing that IMO really hurt the networks would not have happened. If I could eliminate my contract and pay for the whole phone, I would have done that. If Sprint continues to provide good service, I should not need a contract to keep me locked in. This whole industry has evolved into such a mess of who can trick who so I end up not trusting anyone.
  9. CSS is great. Totally easy to learn. What is it.. color:black; I guess you'd just need to know the shortcut and you'd be good. CSS makes html look like it was designed by five year olds in that it is so much easier to make stuff look right.
  10. I hear you. Though I prefer to buy branded memory from Corsair or Crucial (RIP OCZ RAM division.)
  11. I have a mid-2009 13" MBP with the 2.53Ghz CPU. I now have 8GB of RAM in it. You can get the RAM for 30-40 dollars and it will extend the life on the computer pretty well. You can see if you need more by checking the swap in the activity monitor.
  12. I don't know either. I'll do some more investigations on it later. Also, we have the same Macbook. I highly recommend getting 8GB of RAM for it. The performance is much improved.
  13. I can't wait. I love the Windows Phone OS and will very likely get one for my next phone. My roommate has the Arrive and it is a great experience. He loves it.
  14. I think it comes down to which one feels best to use. As far as I have experiences, HTC and Samsung both make very high quality devices (we'll ignore the Samsung Moment) and with these phone both being flagship devices, expect top notch design and craftsmanship. I think the shape of the HTC looks better to hold which is way more important to me than some benchmark scores or how many ppi. My phone is single core at 1.2Ghz and runs great.
  15. I'm a redditor. It's a pretty powerful site. If you do try Reddit, avoid the front page and stick to some good subreddits. The front page has become Facebook 2.0 with 100% more atheism memes... Maybe just stay away altogether lol.
  16. PBS, that means that in the morning you are sponsored by Juicy Juice, lol. As far as money goes, I understand. Trying to monetize something like this would just take the fun out. I look forward to this chat with your new improved chat limit.
  17. You're going to be so famous Robert! You're going to make tons of money and spend it all on installing LTE towers in every room of your house.
  18. It has the option to roam in GSM, when I selected it, it magically had signal deep in a brick building. A coincidence? perhaps. But the phone can definitely do it with the stock software.
  19. Here are a couple shots from earlier tonight I posted in WiMax. I'm in Muncie, IN.
  20. Wonderful! I'm in Muncie but travel to Bloomington all the time. This covers my routes perfectly. It may not have a date but being on a list at all is a great relief. We only saw very basic WiMax coverage, which surprises me because Sprint pushed so hard for NASCAR and Football and well... you know, it's Indiana.
  21. Sorry if this isn't the best place for this post. I just got the above mentioned phone. It has the ability to roam on GSM networks. This is the only signal I get in some buildings during school. Does anyone know if there is any extra charge for roaming on GSM? I wouldn't think so but I'm just looking out for the bill. I'm using far more data on this phone than I thought I would.
  22. Thats actually not bad. I haven't heard from Netzero in so long. My dial-up was great though. 28.8kbps on my V92 modem, so I never had them.
  23. That's right! It's Sprints iPhone killer from 2008! With full 3G support, GPS, and a Pandora subscription, this phone has it all! Need pictures? No problem, just hit that dedicated faux chrome camera button and bring that 2MP camera to life! It also features a full HTML web browser and supports some javascript. Buy it now with an Everything Unlimited Plan! I wish my new phone was half the phone of the Instinct, lol. Edit: Success! No longer "smoke signals," now I can sleep.
