  1. Actually I had remembered I was still on the .15 radio. And flashing to .16 solved the issues of idling on unusable PCS 90%. LTE signal strength may be a little less, but my phone likes 1x800 and B26 a lot more. The only downside is that It will latch on a B41 signal until the bitter signal level of -135 dBm so I ended up disabling it. I don't see myself turning B41 back on now until 8t8r is widely deployed in my market.
  2. I was really looking forward to this phone and still am very impressed, but I'm disappointed they still kept the base storage at 16gb. I was hoping they would bump it to 32gb :/
  3. No issues, and I was in the hard hit area near Palatine. Plus I think most cell sites have back up generators now a days too.
  4. So my Nexus 5 loves to park itself on a useless 1x1900 connection in my basement office when I know there is a so much better 1x800 signal out there. Can't send texts and calls will break up unless I get kicked to 1x800 (and it doesn't happen easily). Is there a way around this problem without flashing a custom PRL? (Can't figure out how to do it on this device, tried like 7 times with no luck)
  5. There is a China, IL. But its a TV show on Adult Swim!
  6. Service is great at North Coast. On both B25 carriers and some B41. No B26 yet
  7. Definitely had no data for an hour or so earlier. Must have been an issue at the core
  8. Long post, since I haven't been very active on the site lately. Work's been a bitch. I would say perception around me in the Chicago suburbs is about average. I hear more people groan about AT&T to be honest. There are a lot more Sprint stores around here and I would say about half of them used to be Nextel storefronts back in the day. From what I have heard Nextel was the best provider in the NW suburbs back in the mid 2000's. Everyone had Nextel and PTT was everywhere. Some still have a similar perception of Nextel before Sprint, like my parents. They're average customers who stuck with it through the merger and are still happy with the service they receive and pay for. But on average, Nextel had a more positive perception in its heyday than Sprint does currently. Aside from the issues this market experienced during the peak of NV deployment, perception is improving but not at levels we would want to see. Now when I was in Orlando, Florida- it was a totally different story. Everyone who had Sprint complained about it. I did too at times. Service was better in Chicago, always was, period. (Ericsson, cough) However I've heard it's gotten a lot better in that market so I'm looking forward to my trip back down for work next month. It will be interesting to see if I can notice anyone's perceptions changing as they are in Chicago. Now what I currently see as unacceptable, even from an average customer perspective, would be coming across places (like downtown Crystal Lake, IL) were I once had great service with Nextel and/or Clearwire WiMax and am now finding terrible signal present day on LTE and even Sprint 3G/1x voice. If Sprint is providing customers who live and work in these areas with new technology (Network Vision) the experience should be no less than what they were receiving from Sprint before. They have the tools and resources to get coverage ubiquitous with that of the decommissioned Nextel and aging Clearwire footprint. In my opinion they are not currently taking advantage of that existing infrastructure from these technologies as much as they could be to convert to NV standards and fill the gaps. I do know there are a hundred or so iDen to NV conversions, and maybe a few dozen WiMax to NV converts. Clear B41 is nice, but it is not everywhere WiMax is. I just think more could be done in many of these areas to provide the same level of service that customers experienced on previous technology. I'm not having this problem currently where I live and work, as 95 percent of the time my service works great. However that 5 percent were service wasn't so great I can often times recall having good WiMax or iDen service at one point in time. I think that's one of the worst killers of a good perception of Sprint in the eyes of average customers.
  9. They're doing something funky around here in the North/Northwest burbs. I finally get the second carrier at home, and the original carrier has been giving me 300 ms pings and sub 1mbps speeds. Second carrier and B26 are performing like usual. Fingers crossed for some optimization!
  10. I honestly think it may have been too much, to fast for the new CEO. But as critical as we can be here on S4GRU, if the general public and industry analysts see it in a positive light, it may turn out to be a decent move. Also- this is only the first move Sprint has made in its new chapter with Claure. I'm sure there is a lot more to come looking ahead, especially if this stokes a reaction from big red and the death star.
  11. If there's a clearwire site on that tower downtown it would solve so many problems there if its converted to NV. I did notice a blip of B26 at Dukes but it cut out real fast. Mostly 1x800 at like -102 dBm, I didn't even bother having my mobile data turned on. Also another interesting observation: My Nexus 5 likes to connect (but obviously not register) to other carrier's LTE connections at times with bad signal. I noticed on my engineering screen I sat on Band 4 at like -87 dBm for a minute or so. Is that ATT? I can't remember.
  12. Service in Downtown Crystal Lake is abysmal. No service in Dukes and roaming on VZW in Finn's. Is one of the towers out here? Or has it always been like that? Here's hoping for B26 optimizations..
  13. Anyone know if they will be dropping the Sprint brand for SoftBank USA? I thought I heard rumblings about that last month. I think it would be a smart move since a not so good reputation is hard to shake.
  14. When I'm in the elevator in my office building I tend to drop B25 right at the ground floor and then I switch to B26 at around -90 dBm. Outside the elevator I'll bounce back to B25 at around -75 dBm. For some reason signal is really good in my building on the main floor but once I go outside and am up in my office on the 5th floor it drops off a bit. Makes me wonder if we have a DAS somewhere. In our Orlando office it was completely opposite as my signal strength would improve outside and going higher in the building it would also improve.
  15. I did see some COWs but couldn't really tell what carriers they were for. Didn't really look at them too much either because honestly my mind was elsewhere... Lol
  16. Agreed. I was able to text, send picture messages, and make calls about 80 percent of the time. I only found myself on B41 once and the second carrier a handful of times. No B26 there, which could have been helpful. My sister on her iPhone 4 had a less than stellar experience as she couldn't send any texts via SMS, but her iMessages were working just fine on 3G. My friend with Verizon was stuck on 1x most of the time, so that make me a little warm and fuzzy on the inside. Next year I'm expecting an even better experience. Later this month I'm going to North Coast, so it will be interesting to see how the network performs there too. Edit: I also did not lose LTE once. That right there is a win as well!
  17. Impressive speeds today on the second carrier at the Lincolnshire Corporate Center as everyone is leaving work. The network performs superb in this area!
  18. I'm going on Saturday. I'll be looking forward to seeing how the network performs as well on my Nexus 5. It has to be better than the shitshow of a network I experienced at Bonnaroo this year. Anyone know how service is at Grant Park on a normal day? I haven't been since last summer and don't remember how it was back then either
  19. Welcome to the UCF Alumni Association, S4GRU Chapter. Don't forget to throw your old freshman year Sprint handset on top of the equipment shelter at the cell tower yard behind the Arena
  20. From my experience this weekend it seems that Kansas City and vicinity is just about fully optimized. I found myself on B26 80% of the time. My home market, Chicago, still has ways to go. I can't wait for the entire network to perform this well!
  21. After losing my 2nd place title and reading this all I want is a Culver's sundae now.. Gee thanks..
  22. I've been on 1x1900 and walked down to the basement and had my call dropped. But when I called the person back I was shunted to 1x800. So for that situation, if I was on 1x800 the whole time my call wouldn't have been dropped. But I guess my question out of this would be, can calls be handed off from 1x1900 to 1x800 ? Seems like that didn't happen for me and I somewhat expected that it would.
  23. Nope, Nextel direct connect was pretty hip back then. We did throw the phone long distances across the football field just for the hell of it. The thing was so durable.
