  1. This is not the same kind of program. This is not something sprint is advertising, a customer either has to know about it or have a pretty aware sales rep. Who goes over it with them. Next, jump and edge are new pricing schemes that involve "financing" (edge and next aren't really financing) the phone and sprint doesn't offer this. Argue about the merits of these programs all you want they are popular and people are doing it. Sprint will need to catch up and for a company looking to grow playing catch up is not where you want to be.

Argue, no. You said they don't have similar programs. I said they do, which is a fact. Advertising wasn't mentioned, but the existence of the programs has nothing to do with advertising practices.

  2. Unless you went with an iPhone in which case add 300 for the phones. Also the no money down is for a limited time. And the jump plan is 10 a month per line so I don't get your math on the second set. But yes sprint's new plans aren't as competitive as I thought they where going to be after the SoftBank's purchase nor have they responded to next, edge or jump all of which have been surprisingly popular. So I hear you on that point.

This may come as a shock..but I think this is discussed here:

I knew about this stuff before it was even advertised...because I called, talked with someone, and paid $50 back in July of 2012 to buy the Galaxy S3...since $50 was how much I needed to pay to buy out my remaining contract period. Then, paid for the Gs3. I turned around and paid $100 for my wife's line the  following September and got her a GS3 as well.

Sprint wasn't heavily advertising the Upgrade Now program, and as the program stands, it still is a better deal and they don't need to do anything to "catch-up" with the others. If anything, the others have played "catch-up" to Sprint by implementing their new device options.

  3. Ok...I can say with pride that Sylacauga has LTE on one of the towers and thanks to Sensorly, I've laid down some purple track on the way home from some visiting we did over the weekend to Troy, Alabama. I'm headed back to town in a few to check which site it is, but I got a good idea already and will take photos to post for the supporters...but it's been on since Friday when I suddenly felt that 3-vibrate notification that Sigcheck does when LTE is found. I was in town on Thursday and there wasn't any LTE in the same spot..so I know they had just got it on Friday morning and were still working on it when we hit hwy 21 headed towards Montgomery.

I Sensorly'd some in Montgomery but there was already someone doing it in that area...I'm happy to say I'm the only sensorly user in the Sylacauga area - besides my wife, I made her download it yesterday when we came back to Sylacauga because it shouldn't be long before she starts seeing some around Wilsonville/Columbiana, where the power plant is...

If you look at the Sensorly map, when I get home later the word "Sylacauga" should have some dark purple on it...if I'm right about the tower that's been flipped on. I'm going right there where you can see the hwy 34 just under the word Sylacauga, and around in the entire area surrounding that street.(though that's not where the antenna is, I'm going to do some extra driving to put down some purple).

  4. I've had Sprint since the days of being laid off and getting unemployment. I remember the government deadlock about extending, we had no income from May 31 until August 10 or so...and I called Sprint -had only one line back then - and explained, and they were very polite. I told them that I wanted to see if I could put my line on hold for the time without money, they told me hang on...came back to the line and said since I had been a faithful account holder in good standing for so long, they would extend my due date 3 months. I didn't have a bill to pay for 3.5 months. To me, that sticks out and says they appreciate me personally. And I kept my word when unemployment came through and

paid nearly $600 for the time period I was due.

  5. An update on the Madison(Zierdt Rd) site, itappears it is a at&t site, just went by and there were several of their trucks there. I had been trying to take some pictures, and I think I might have had a few good ones, but I had to use my phone, so they didn't end up looking that good at all

If you could see the Sponsor maps, you'd find a tower that's close to that location I'm sure. I don't wanna repeat my above post and sound like a television commercial for S4GRU, but you'd find what you're looking for in the maps area of this site.

  6. There's no way to know which direction they are going....no one knows that except for the contractors who are performing the work, and the party responsible for putting in the backhaul to supply LTE.  Robert finds out when the site becomes accepted..but, your best bet to find out as much information as possible is to become a donating member of the site. This way, you can see actual maps of the towers nearby, and where you travel regularly, and get an idea of what the future will hold once Network Vision is complete in your area. This is by far the only place you'll find this information, as no other site is going to offer such detailed information on the deployment...and with the community of helpful members like digi, wiwave...etc, you can't go wrong.  People from all aspects of understanding mobile carriers and phones are right here in one spot.

(I have nothing to gain by telling you to donate and become a supporter, other than the gratitude that I know Robert has for people...keep in mind, this site doesn't pay anyone for their work...this is all done voluntarily and takes a huge amount of work from all fronts to keep this going).

  7. Another purple dot on the map near Montgomery..looks like the capital is going to get a good bit of LTE love, and hopefully moving north (as Bham is much easier to get to than Montgomery for me)....

I'd much rather hit the 4-lane 280 to Bham, than to travel the 2-lane US-21....up and down hills through "Coosa county -- where you go to hide the bodies"....

But srsly...Coosa county is barren..there's not hardly anything in the entire county (and I mean stores, aside from gas stations. It's just...empty. And people from Coosa county are a special breed of Alabamian...unaccustomed to daylight, modern power, telephones and cars....I think they still use horsepower ..literally.

Poor Sprint has about 3 towers to tackle in this area too...all on/near US21.

  8. This reminds me of that Allstate commercial..."they can't put anything on the internet that isn't true"....

Anyone could come say they have 4G-LTE just like Digi said...but Sensorly is a failsafe ...you're burden of proof is no longer just your word with that...it's there, in purple, to show that you're not asking someone who doesn't know you from Adam's housecat to believe you...

It's not really a matter of believing anyone, anyway...it's a way to help others see what service is avail in their area -- for instance, someone looking to switch providers or travel to a certain area.

  9. I would imagine this is building some angst among Sprint board members. Anyone wanna guess which way they'll vote? I'm going to put money on Softbank going through, since Sprint can see what they are in for if dish gets its grubby claws on them...I seriously have my doubts anyone would be in favour of dish+ Sprint after seeing this Clearwire debacle. (It spectacle, whatever term best fits)

  10. So Clearwire has been NOT taking financing from Sprint for 3 out the last 4 months and therefore is trying to cap how much equity Sprint can acquire.

But according to that document, In its February 12, 2013 earnings press release, Clearwire

announced that its total fourth quarter revenue dropped 14% and its fourth quarter cash
    plummeted by $315.1 million.

Shows that they are a sinking ship, which backs exactly what Sprint is saying -- they are sinking fast and Dish only wants to swoop in and grab spectrum, leaving the company to flounder.
