  1. Sorry digi..the trip was keeping me so preoccupied that I only occasionally checked my phone, and did most of my posting from my phone while sitting at a stop light...I really wasn't much good at all for nothing except the mapping I did with sensorly which has shown up (because I can clearly see where I was in my dad's yard and sensorly shows the signal accordingly)...

Then my younger brother tried to cause trouble ...etc etc. You know how it goes, family drama. Overall, had a good trip and I was happy to see LTE period since I've never got to play with it..only had it briefly on my phone when I went to the GA line once.

When it comes to mapping around here, I know I'll be the only person in this area grabbing it and I'll do what needs doing..it's just different when your so far from home and don't know your way around well enough ...cops see a blacked out (with tint) vehicle with outta-state tags sitting at a vacant lot or parked beside a cell phone site...they start thinking weird things....and I've seen those Slidell cops on "Cops" ....wouldn't want to displease them.. Kinda like where you are, I'm sure you know a side-road or somewhere you can go and no one would think twice...but there might be places that you know druggies hang out and are not cool to go cruising for LTE stuff...that's what I didn't know about Slidell and why I only did some hit and miss with posting anything at all.

I guess Slidell was my learning curve...and now I know what I should do, and how to do it once Sylacauga/Childersburg/Harpersville/Rockford/etc gets some LTE lit up. Sorry I wasted anyone's time but I'm home now and got plenty of time to read-up on the stuff...I thought I only needed to know about getting the Eng screen and sensorly. I also didn't plan on going so much by myself and having drive with GPS ..

  2. I did do a bit of mapping..a few pages back someone posted a sensorly of this area right around Nelson road /Nelson landing. Can probably see lots more purple now because I ran a good bit of mapping. Back in Bama now, so I'm no good for that area no more.

I did spot a 98 serving cell right at empire truck sales but it wasn't great when I checked eng screen

  3. 131 is a site we don't have, but this screen shot is useless for a site confirmation. You were pretty close to it. Tell the wife you are going for a ride for an hour to unwind. Where's the dedication to your hobby? ;)

Yeah, I was just posting this to make sure I was doing it right, but since the youngest son started doing dinner reversals ...

I wanted to really help out but it only takes a couple times of seeing my kid throw-up before my stomach gets weak and I want to join in with the "upheavals" -- if you get my drift. I'm not sick but I was forced to watch him do it, then had to clean up...so I feel my dinner sitting right up there on the edge.

I'm going in the morning before anyone wakes up...not likely to get actual camera photos of the site, but I'll do my best to find it via LTE ENG screen ...then go back when sun rises to just snap a pic or two of the tower+cabinets. I called myself looking and I cant guess at where the tower could be from the map...I'm going to look a bit harder now that I know which way to go to get stronger/better LTE.

  4. Hey no sweat. Completely understand. Having 2 kids of my own I know exactly what you mean. Don't worry about it and try and take care of those kiddos. Hope they feel better soon.

Thanks!! I just hate they are feeling puny, being the first time they've seen their grandfather in 2 years...and my baby has never met her great grandmother...with kids being sick, I doubt we'll make it to the nursing home this trip because i don't want to take a virus in to that place -- IF that is what they have. We've decided that if my son gets any worse, we are going to the Urgent Care down on Gauze because he's to the point of dehydrating ...even the meds we got him for nausea just will NOT stay down. Poor kid feels so bad.

But it also appears that one of the sites I'm hitting, as Digi said, was spotted over a month back...so my travels aren't taking me to new places where 4G hasn't been seen yet...

  5. I may not can be much help for the Slidell area ...we're only here for another day, and I'm not doing the traveling that I originally thought I'd do -- I had two kids suddenly come down with a stomach bug, and one nearly gave us a dinner-reversal in the van while driving before I could get pulled over for him to get outside and do it...

So with sick kids and weather doing what it is here (not sure if you are getting the storms up that way or not)...Slidell is getting DOUSED big-time with rain since we came into town on Thurs night. It's rained so hard on me at times I thought I'd have to pull over.

But when Sylacauga starts lighting up their towers with 4g, which could be (________) <--insert random future date......

I'll be there snapping photos...because I know the tower locations for all 3 in Sylacauga area and can get somewhere nearby each one of them to do the photos and phone stuff. Maybe I should've just known that something would keep us from doing what we planned while we visited Slidell and not said much about helping to LTE map ...

some of you know how it is when it comes to kids being sick while on vacation, or a family trip...it just takes priority over your plans rather quickly and puts a damper on much going....

I can tell you this, on the drive down here, from I-59 back up through Mississippi to where I-20 and I-59 meet and run together into Alabama...and back into my home state....there's NOTHING. I didn't look for ehrpd, but I know there wasn't any 4G, because I checked about every 6-8 minutes while on the interstate by flipping airplane mode...and never picked up anything, not even a little bit. So mississippi is still playing the waiting game on getting theirs I guess...

  6. I did some Sensorly'ing yesterday while I was alone...when I went for lunch. Still needed my GPS tho, plus it was mid-day heavy traffic + rain...but there should be some new purple where I did some points yesterday...

I need someone to take a quick look at this tower (i can see this from Nelson Rd) and see if they can tell anything about it...I'm not holding out hope for this being the tower I posted above, because of the signal being low -- or in the {fair} range. Then again, the downtilt could be set so that this is actually the tower I'm getting LTE on, and I'm just too close to it. If this is indeed the tower, I'll get better pics, and closer to it...but I can't tell. I used my nice Fuji to get these photos, but it's just in a spot where I can't take a good pic from the house.

  7. I figured the signal was a bit too weak to determine much, digi, but I did want to go ahead and post the pertinent info because I'm just not finding the time to do much on the internet /// just driving to help out (I'm having to use my GPS a good bit because things have changed since I was here last and I don't want to get lost down here...)

Last time I took a wrong turn in Slidell, it was an interstate wrong-turn, and I couldn't exit...so what happened?? I wound up having to cross the twin-span and turn around on the other side of Lake Ponchartrain because I was already past the last exit when I realized my mistake....

    So I pay attention now.

I'm going to show my wife what i need from her according to your post in the LTE stuff, and she can use my phone (her GS3 isn't rooted) to get the site info/cell ID/ and GMap location data while I use her phone to do my GPS IF I need it.

I'll get back with you guys here when I get home (err, at dad's) this evening after our travels of the day.

  8. Sorry I haven't been much help, first time seeing family here in two years and we been staying busy. I did do some mapping on 11 with sensorly, and here is my eng screen while at the house. This is the Nelson road area :-/ past the Microtel.

  9. I'm at my dad's where I was questioning having LTE earlier in posts, and I do have LTE. Forgive me, I haven't had a chance to map nothing yet or do the eng screen, we are going to unload the van and get some rest. But tomorrow I'll do what I can in this area (he lives around the Nelson road and motel we discussed)

  10. I just simply asked if this router would work as my main router, forget I mentioned using my internet wherever I please. I just asked if I wasted my money on this router to use it with the repeater I have in my bedroom. at this point I think I'd rather go buy enough cat 5 to run to my bedroom than keep asking if this router is going to work or if I need some antenna with it to make it work.

Actually, I'd prefer to just go scour the internet a few hours instead of asking the same question about it working or not without buying more stuff to make it work. Thanks for the help so far.

  11. So did I waste my money on that one and I need to buy a different kind? I was planning on using this particular router as my main router at home...

I'm more worried about finding out if I wasted my money at this point, but, routers on my property, neighbors use my laptop, on my wireless signal, there is no TOS violated. I can take my laptop to my neighbors, connect to my Wi-Fi if it reaches, and allow them to use my laptop. It's all my stuff and I don't profit or charge for it, which would violate.

  12. You should edit your post. That link opens to a page with both your name and your email address.

Thanks!! Glad we are in the sponsor's forum, I know no one here would mean any harm with that info...but I didn't click the link to check, I thought it was just a generic HTTP for people to share. Replaced with the login screen, which is a little more troublesome...

The proposed "six-strike" agenda can be found in the first link, http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20130111/16325521645/details-various-six-strikes-plans-revealed-may-create-serious-problems-free-wifi.shtml

I hope Sprint opens doors to new players to step-up into the game and evolve to keep things like the monopoly that AT&T and VZW from doing these evil acts..

  13. I received this yesterday from being signed up for DemandProgress.org....

Generally, this isn't the "OMG super dramatic fake political stuff you can check with snopes" emails you see spattered on Facebook or sent by unknowing folks who believe some of the stuff that circulates. Actually I've signed a couple of the petitions that DemandProgress has put in my inbox, like the SOPA petition and other things. This came to me yesterday:

(I removed the link that masked my email address, but left the link for the valid petition if any of you wish to view it)

    Dear J__________,

We have the details on how various Internet Service Providers plan to implement their anti-infringement "six strikes" plans -- and it's not good.

AT&T's plan is to block access to frequently visited sites. Time Warner will constantly redirect you to a landing page. Verizon will plans to reduce connection speeds to the snail pace of 256kbps.

What do all of them have in common? None of them actually let you get up to six strikes -- and all of them have the potential, even as they claim they're not "cutting people off" from the Internet, to make free WiFi almost nonexistent.

Verizon has confirmed that its "six strikes" plan will apply to businesses, not just personal accounts. That means the cafe down the street may end up with essentially unusable WiFi if even one customer abuses the system -- and even terminate their accounts entirely.

We can't let that happen. A free and open Internet is one of the most important tools a democracy can have -- and as long as ISPs like Verizon plan to battle copyright infringement by slowing down or eliminating business's Internet access, that tool will be in jeopardy. Will you join us in urging Verizon not to bow to copyright holders at the expense of their customers?

PETITION TO VERIZON: We call on ISPs like Verizon not to pursue punitive action against businesses that provide free WiFi by slowing down or eliminating their Internet access. Help keep the Internet as free and as open as possible -- revise your "six strikes" plan now!

Click here to sign -- it just takes a second.

  14. But if Google follows it's original plan with the fiber deployment, it wouldn't be focused on large cities...they originally said they wanted to encompass the rural areas that nobody else (or hardly anyone else) had offerings for high speed in...

Which would put Google in the forefront of competition for the small wifi providers that pop-up and re-issue things like Direcway and other internet offerings that leave something to be desired.

There's someone who uses Linksys routers with Direcway satellite internet here..he spends about $150 putting a waterproof box with electric line powering a small Linksys router, plus a 12"x12" antenna that receives the signal from his broadcast station.

Afterwards, he charges about $30/month for redistributed satellite internet ...but back to topic, I'd love to know what they'll do if Clearwire+Sprint goes through...essentially making Google partnering with Sprint.
