Other than Nextel conversions, I haven't seen much new lately. No permits on file with Fairfax County for Sprint, for example.

I haven't seen anything in Frederick or Montgomery County either.
Deep sigh lol

Any update on NGN deployment for the DC metro area?
-
The way I see it Sprint has 5 options.
1. Find a way to do band 25 uplink CA
2. 4x4 MIMO
3. NGN is done so well that the problem never gets out of control.
4. Sprint configures the network to sense a overloaded uplink and switches you to a band with the best uplink.
5. Sprint fails and upload speeds becomes unusable on band 41
Either way there is no easy way out of this but option 4 to me seems to be the best course for the immediate future.
Aren't they going to do option 1? Didn't Marcelo say that band 41 will be used for uplink and band 25 for uplink

Big news:
Sprint Demonstrates Speeds of More Than 300 Mbps on Samsung Galaxy S7
Sprint prepares for three-channel carrier aggregation in LTE Plus markets across the country
Exciting news indeed! With this public announcement I expect to see 3x CA very soon. Early as next month

If SoftBank does bid, can they use the spectrum for TDD instead? Wasn't that Sprints original plan
-
Isn't this the equipment financing company sprint said it was creating with softbank? Similar to the handset leasing company?
I think you are right. I forgot about that!

As Sprint nears an eighth straight year in the red, the mobile operator is carrying $34 billion in debt—more than twice its market value. Chairman Masayoshi Son, whose uber-carrier SoftBank took control of Sprint in 2013, has a plan to start paying off those debts. It’s a little like borrowing against the tires to make car payments.
According to Sprint Chief Financial Officer Tarek Robbiati, the proposal is to create another subsidiary of Son’s Japanese corporation that will lend Sprint money. The new unit plans to accept the carrier’s wireless equipment and some of its rights to slices of the wireless spectrum as collateral. Sprint says that while it won’t give up control of those precious airwaves—worth more than $115 billion, according to Bloomberg Intelligence—it’s aiming for $3 billion to $5 billion this year from these loans.

Does anybody know what this is about:

I know someone in Telecom (runs a competing carrier) who is freaking out as @realDonaldTrump continues to win. What goes around comes around
Is he referring to a potential Republican administration under Donald Trump that will allow Sprint to merge with T-Mobile? Which competing carrier CEO is he referring to?
Maybe but Donald and Legere had a Twitter match last year. IIRC Donald said tmobile's service was horrible... Something like that

Of course Sprint is looking into "5G" behind the scenes but remember John Saw said Sprint is will remain silent because they don't want to give competitors its playbook about their network.

CA+Second carrier are truly all they are cracked up to be! Picked up Second carrier and CA uptown Manhattan and also some in Northern NJ.
Also checked out Dead Pool at AMC on 34th street, Looks like CA is live there as well. Hit almost 90mbs indoors!
I really don't know how any other carrier will compete here in NYC.
When Marcelo replied to your tweet and said "really soon" he was right!! Talk about exceeding expectations.

I think in-market roaming is a bit rediculous. They need to reassess where they truly need it and do away with most in market roaming. The network has matured enough that I have not seen 1x roaming in quite a long time.
It's fair to say that 1x800 has covered that footprint well if not better than Verizon's voice. Data might still be usable in some parts. But honestly don't think it's worth the insane cost.
I agree. I remember being on extended 1x a lot...especially during NV days but since that I can't think of the last time I was roaming on VZW....

Yes the Super Bowl is good platform for advertising however you're not guarantee positive results from it.
For example Missy Elliot collaborated with Amazon to preview her new song for Amazon's SB commercial however the song is no where on the sales charts (iTunes or google play)
Not the best example but I'm glad sprint is investing their $3 million dollars into small cells and network maintenance.

The short answer to that is no. It is an oversimplification that has gotten traction through repetition.
Somebody or something screwed up -- either in the PCMag testing or in the PCMag testing citation. The iPhone 5S is dual band, not tri band. It cannot hit peak speeds of 42 Mbps on 5 MHz FDD in band 25/26.
Regardless, most people will not notice the difference in peak or average speeds between single carrier and 2x CA on band 41. The difference between 121 Mbps and 78 Mbps makes no difference to their usage. In both cases, Sprint "just works."
The point is to get tri band handsets into the hands of Sprint users. Any 2x CA is icing on the cake. And that is my point.

The 5s could of possibly be connect to 10x10 fdd?

Im excited my self... i think it's save to say we will see 3×CA this year .... i think we will see volte first in the chicago market (soft launch)... im just wondering how widespread small cells will be this year.. and will they use small cells everywhere.

Couldn't tell you buddy. Best thing we can do is to check our local permits in our area to see how many and widespread they will be. Sprint is "Talking less and doing more"'now so who knows what's going on behind the scenes. As far as VoLTE, I expect Chicago, Kansas City, and Austin Tx for their soft launch

So, what will we see from sprint in Q1 of 2016.... i know we will see more lte plus more subscribers, but will we see a big ramp up of small cells will we see any indication of volte...will we see 3× carrier aggregation this year.... any care to comment.....

We will see 3x CA probably sometime this summer. Once WiMAX is completely turned off (scheduled for February 4) then Sprint can deploy another Band 41 carrier. Of course field testing would need to be done first but I expect to see it late spring/early summer.
I really hope we get VoLTE this year but I'm personally not pressed for it anymore. Sprint needs to densify their LTE network first before they deploy it. I expect them to do a soft launch in a few markets this year
-
WiMAX was in one question but I don't believe it was addressed. I recommend looking at the transcript once released.
It's my plan look it over. Whether it's not addressed we all know 3x Band 41 is coming soon. I just hope it comes before I upgrade to the iPhone 7 plus lol
-
I couldn't listen to the whole call but did they mention anything about the WiMAX shutdown and possibly 3x Band 41 CA shortly after the shutdown?
-
All I want from this quarterly call is (I might be asking for a lot but here it goes):
-NGN update - exactly how many sites they plan to deploy by EOY, where are they now as far as employment, and which markets can expect to see it first
-WiMAX Shutdown / 3x Band 41 CA - this falls under NGN but details on when the roll out of Band 41 3x CA will start
-How many POPs are they covering with LTE (both LTE and Spark (LTE Plus) now with LTE roaming and roaming +
Bonus : A Dish Partnership lol
Honestly I just want Marcelo to be very open and honest. I think the problem with Sprint now is they are to quiet with their goals and it's making people worried. I understand Marcelo doesn't want to announce all of his goals because if he's not able to achieve one, he will be ridicule just like Hesse but he needs to start being more transparent with their goals.
Also I would like for them to end all promotional plans and just keep the new Family Share.
- SN I just finished my homework assignments and my brain is fried, so please don't come for my grammatical errors lol.

When does Dish have to use its spectrum holdings by? Is there a use/lose date?
Not sure. I think for its spectrum prior to AWS 3 and PCS H it was 2017/18 but I can be wrong
-
What Sprint needs is someone like Dish attempting to buy them out, then failing due to FCC disapproval, then Dish dispersing $3B cash infusion into Sprint and Sprint inheriting their AWS spectrum. Then they can have a good chance at coming back like T-Mobile did.
Lol that would be awesome. I really want them to at least form a Partnership. All of that spectrum and the possibilities and innovation the two companies can make.
Has Dish even started their wireless deployment yet?
-
Not sure if it's been listed but I picked up 40024 on Band 41 yesterday in Bethesda MD.
-
Not likely. pCell is a TDD only solution and most of the world runs FDD networks.
Can't they use pCell for band 41 considering its TDD. Im pretty sure TDD (band 41) will play a huge a roll in Sprints "5G network"
-
There was an injunction granted to MB/MC that stopped Sprint from decommissioning WiMax until the end of Q1 2016. Because WiMax usage was so high here, Sprint can't repurpose excess B41 spectrum just yet for a second carrier.
Our second B25 carrier should be coming soon since LTE usage is growing and 3G usage is decreasing.

That makes sense. I keep forgetting about how high the usage of WiMAX was in NYC. So once WiMAX is completely shut down can we expect a rapid 8t8r deployment? And possibly 3x20 CA in NYC this year
-
I apologize if this question has been answered many times but what is the hold up with the second B25 and B41 carrier for NYC?

LTE in Frederick is good in some locations (Downtown, Westview Shopping center, FSK mall) but the area still needs work. Not sure how many more cell sites needs upgrades or if they need more macro sites.
