  1. I regularly get well over 1MB upload on speed tests on my iPhone 6, so thankfully not all Sprint users are affected.  Maybe it's a Band 25 bug?  I seem to mostly be on Band 41 nowadays.

I'm on B25 more often than not, and I average around 6-8 mbps for upload so it doesn't affect everyone with iPhone 6s.  Interesting that Sprint said it is a known bug...  Hmmm.

  2. If you updated to iOS 8.0.1 and are experiencing the "No Service" and no Touch ID problem, download iOS 8.0 onto your PC, back up your device, and do Shift+Update and select the 8.0 IPSW and let it go back down to 8.0. Apple took down the 8.0.1 update from OTA and is working on a fix for it now. So far, this is the only remedy I have seen for the problem. Luckily I haven't updated to 8.0.1 yet ;)

Very true, but like jamisonshaw said, a lot of people don't know how to do stuff like this on iOS.  Now what I am about to say is extremely stereotypical, but I don't care...  A lot of apple users go to iOS because it is supposed to work as is.  Most in this ecosystem like it because they don't have to tinker with things to get them to work better or to customize it to their needs.

Android tends to get a lot more of the technical customers that know how, or at least figure out how to deal with restores, flashing of firmware, ROMs, etc.

I like both worlds, but unfortunately a lot of people are going to have a very hard time letting this mistake go.  I won't...  I read the forums and waited to update, but I hope there is a quick fix in store for those non-technical users that can't use their phones for phone calls anymore.

  3. Apple is doomed. We should all throw our iPhones away. They're useless anyways. Because they might bend if I try with force to bend it. And ios 8.0.1 temporarily crashed some devices ( how unfortunate nobody can do a restore....oh wait they can) lol

    Apple is doomed.

  4. Shit....I just started the update. Does turning the phone off cancel it? lol

I was just about to start it but thankfully I read this forum right beforehand.  I was literally on the screen where all I had to do is tap Download and Install.

Sorry to those of you that installed it, but THANKS for the heads up! :tu:

  5. B26 is more important for me, B41 has been perfectly fine. 2dB is hardly anything to write home about, at that point the signal is likely going to be unusable anyway.

    Sent from my Nexus 5

I am one of those people with an iPhone 6 coming from a Nexus 5. The devices seem pretty similar in RF performance, but the iPhone blows it away when it comes to LTE scan time.

Very rare to go more than 20-30 seconds without LTE while entering a known LTE area. The device shunts me back to LTE most days before I even get to the ground floor while going up my buildings elevator from the parking lot in the basement.

Both are great devices. I am keeping my N5 for whenever I get that Android itch!

  6. How does that reception compare to the N5?  I know it comes back to LTE faster as you said.

I wonder if any Android phones allow the LTE rescan to be modified.  You'd think if any the N5 would be one.  I know some can even change the initial LTE band priority.

B25 is on par with or maybe even better than the N5 on the newer radios.

B26 is about the same...  maybe a little worse.  (if it is worse - it is like 1 or 2 dBm...  falls into the margin of error or natural variations that's for sure)

No live B41 around here (as you know), so I can't compare B41 yet but the word is that it appears that the iPhone may be the best B41 performer at this time.  Seems to be much stronger than the N5.

While B26 might be a hair weaker on this device than the N5, I am on LTE probably twice as much due to the quicker transition back to LTE.

  7. Well today is my first day at work since having the iPhone 6, so my usage has stabilized into my normal pattern.

This device (iPhone 6, not the +) is giving me fantastic battery life!  I woke up at roughly 6:30 CST and have put in roughly 2 hours of actual usage time (screen on time since I haven't listened to music or had any background tasks running), and I still have 87%!  It seems like each charge gets a little bit better (probably just in my head, but it really does seem like it).  I would say over an hour of the usage was outdoors in direct sunlight so the auto brightness had it pretty much maxed out too.  Also, I only have a very weak LTE signal at my office at about -110 dBm on B26.

If I was on my N5, I would usually be at 50-55% at this point in the day, and my old G2 would probably be sitting around 75%.  Oh... and to get that type of battery life on the N5 and G2, I had to have brightness turned down to 20% and 40% respectively - using the phone outdoors was a real pain...

This phone keeps impressing me.  It will be odd to not have the freedom of Android to mod and customize my phone as much, but this device just works.  No tweaking needed.  The LTE scan time continues to amaze...  With my older devices, I always had to cycle airplane mode to get LTE after getting off the elevator, but now yet again...  It just works - before I get to my desk I have LTE.

  8. Yeh I know. I was going to wait a while and see if the next update fixes the issue. I feel that it will. If it doesn't then it's not a huge deal. They will just give me a new phone or screen and I'll be on my way.

I haven't experienced the bug at all (my wife hasn't too).  I guess it technically could be a software issue, but it should then present itself on pretty much everyone's iPhone since we are all running the same OS.

The only real bug I have noticed 100% is an iOS bug.  Every now and then when I go into Settings and click on General, the phone will hang.  I usually just hit the home button and go back in and it is fine.  I am pretty sure I remember reading an article about it though, and I am sure it will get fixed in 8.0.1.

  9. How is your battery life compared to your N5?

I am also coming from a N5, and while I haven't had the device long enough to give a definitive answer, it seems better. I charged it fully last night and so far I am at 2:30 of on screen time and 7:00 of standby and I still have 68% left.

I always use a new phone at lot more than usual the first couple days, so I definitely think I will easily get over a days use during normal usage.

  10. Has anyone looked at the PRL yet to see if 1x800 is still a lower priority?

I am not sure how to check...  But in my drive today, where I go between two small towns and the 2 towers are 18 miles apart, I never roamed on the iPhone 6 where I typically do on my N5 or G2.  I don't know if it is because of a better 1x 1900 radio, or if it is actually switching to 1x 800 properly.

  11. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1411226192.270790.jpg

It isn't B41... But I love my local, unloaded, tower. In a town of 12,000 with pretty much all Verizon and USCC subscribers, this is typical at all times of the day.

Edit:  But then again, with Sprint's new plan with B41 of prioritizing B41 to loaded towers or major cities, my local site probably won't get B41 for at least a year.  Oh well, it isn't too big of a deal since I can do EVERYTHING I want with 32/9.  Hopefully they get it fired up where I work on campus in Madison though.  Now that classes are back in session, 1/5 are typical speeds during office hours.

  12. So I had to go run some errands today, and I turned screen lock to never so I could follow the connection and make note of the RF performance.

Here is a little bit more info based on what I am seeing.  Definitely on par with or maybe even a little better on B25 than the N5 and G2.  However, B26 is probably just marginally worse.  Nothing too extreme, but it doesn't quite hold on to it in a few areas my N5 would (probably the same as the G2).  On the bright side, this device finds LTE much, much faster overall.  I find myself on LTE a lot more overall than the N5 or G2 because of their long scan times so overall I prefer this device's connectivity since the 3G performance is great even on a weak signal.  (still can't wait for some B41 sites to go live around here since it appears that is where this device really excels!)

I always had to use SCP's Reset Connection function to quickly do an airplane mode reset to reacquire LTE in areas that I knew had a -90 or better LTE signal on both the N5 and G2.  With the iPhone, I don't need to worry about that nonsense since it almost immediately brings back LTE even with a -110 signal or worse.  :tu:

  13. I lie and tell myself I am going to use a case. 2 weeks later I take it off and have intervals of case on case off for the remainder of the ownership of the phone lol

Haha yeah.  I did that with my G2 initially.  I will definitely get a case for my wife.  Her G2 is beat up and she had a Otterbox Defender case installed on it from day one.

Any suggestions for a stylish case that can withstand some abuse?

  14. My preorder slip says "128GB Silver Kit" - I hope that doesn't mean I have to buy a case. I just got my Spigen from Amazon. :)

Im waiting for my button stabilizers to come in. I can't use the case until they do because the volume and lock button hardly work lol

I'm going naked with it.  I haven't dropped a phone in years, knock on wood.  Both my G2 and N5 are in flawless condition which will hopefully help the resell value when I put one of them on Swappa (I can't sell both...  I may need an Android fix from time to time)

  15. First impressions of the phone (from an ex android guy):

    - The display is great!  I have the regular iPhone 6 and the colors are fantastic, and the blacks are incredible.  With the Space Gray model, I literally can't tell where the display ends when the background is black.  I wasn't sure if it would feel like a downgrade from the N5 or G2 since they both have 1080p displays, but the colors are much better and overall I think this display is much better.

    - The RF performance seems pretty much the same as the N5 on the newer radios.  I drop LTE at the same areas (while in my building's elevator while in the basement where the parking garage is), but the 3G performance seems great!  I was pulling down 2.30 mbps with a -105 dBm signal on 3G!  The device seems to pick up LTE much, much faster than either the N5 or G2.  While coming up the elevator, it picked LTE up again before I got into my apartment (30 seconds).  I can't evaluate the device on B41 though since there aren't any live sites around here.

    - Everything is fast and fluid while navigating around the phone.  This is my first time with TouchID and I must admit that I will probably use it.  I initially thought it was just a gimmick, and I wouldn't use it but it saves a lot of time in the App Store.

    - The phone itself is really great looking.  I have the Space Gray model, and I have no complaints in the style of the device...  well maybe the huge top and bottom bezels, but with them it seems similar in size to my N5 which I enjoy.  The Silver model, that my wife has, is also very attractive.

I can't wait till some of the sites with B41 antennas installed start going live around here...  From what I have heard, it seems to perform almost the same as B25 on this device.

If anyone has any suggestions for someone new to the iPhone as a whole, please share.  I had a iPhone 4S for a couple months at my old job about a year ago, but I never really got into it.  It was 3G only of course, and on Verizon which has the WORST 3G network around here.  I don't think I ever had a speedtest over 250 kbps with it.

  16. I'm not looking forward to the TEP discussion when I go to get my phone. I like AppleCare+, and I'm going to stick with it.

They asked me, but only once and wasn't pushy at all.  I think they kind of assumed I was just trying to get out of there as quick as possible after dealing with their system being down for almost an hour.

  17. lol. I know the guy who signed for it. They may be busy but when I worked there not so much. Good store though.

Edit. How were you able to check your preorder if you did it at the store? I never received anything and I would like to be able to track mine.

The paper receipt had a order number on it.  I typed it into the sprint.com/myorder page and it never updated until literally 15 minutes ago...  when it was already at the store.

Edit:  It has the machine id, served by, customer info, and then there is FAST order id: or-xxxx-000000000

  18. lol. I know the guy who signed for it. They may be busy but when I worked there not so much. Good store though.

Nice.  Honestly, I wasn't very impressed when I went in there Wednesday.  I used to go to the corporate store in Middleton at Greenway station, but it closed.

Hopefully they impress me today when I go in to pick it up, so they turn into my "go to" store.  I loved the staff at the Middleton one.  We had the same rep every time and he was quick, friendly, and knew us by name after only a couple visits.

  19. My order number from Sprint now shows (for my preorder from a Sprint store):

Delivered On: Friday,  09/19/2014 at 11:20 A.M. Left At: Front Desk Signed By: BORITZKE

YES!!!  It is at the Sprint store!  I haven't received a call yet, but I'm sure they have TONS of people to call.

    Going there after work!

Edit:  They shipped it Next Day Air!  It wasn't at the UPS facility in Louisville, KY until 12:08 AM today!  Delivered to the Sprint store in Madison, WI at 11:20 AM.  Very quick.  Very happy.

  20. I regret going to a Sprint store yesterday during my lunch and preordering.

Now I have to wait for my specific ordered phone to get shipped there, and it looks like it would've been pretty easy to just go in at 6AM and pickup a regular iPhone 6.

Oh well..  live and learn.  Maybe I'll tell my wife her's got delayed and activate her phone on my line tomorrow.  :D

Edit:  ....or I did just get paid today.  I could go in tomorrow at 6AM and buy one at full price and then just return the unopened one I preordered whenever it comes in.  Hmmm.  The closer it gets, the less I want to wait.

  21. I called the store and they do not know if it will be in the shipment that they are scheduled to receive later today around 3PM.  if it is in the shipment, they will call and let me know.

I would be fine if my phone makes it in tomorrow afternoon's shipment instead of today's.  Would work out perfectly for my commute home from work, and I wouldn't have the distraction of a new phone while at the office.

Edit:  Because lets face it.  If I can pick it up tomorrow morning before work, I am going to.  And I won't get nearly enough stuff done that I need to.  :D
