  1. The iPhone 6's RF performance is regarded as being as good as the LG G3 and the newest Nexus 5 radios. My iPhone 6+, however, will hold unto an ALMOST unusable B41 signal and won't let go until north of -122dBm. The B41 cutoff should be more close to -118dBm, if it were my decision. At -118 dBm, B41 will still smoke a good B25/26 signal in pure performance, but not at -120+dBm.

I generally agree with you.  Once the network is ready that will definitely be the way to go.  However, here where there aren't many B41 sites, B25 and B26 are extremely overloaded.  I am talking 500 kbps downloads if I am lucky during office hours.  The -122 dBm B41 connection still blows away anything I receive otherwise.

We will get new modem firmware soon (probably with 8.1?).  I am sure they will iron out all of the kinks as we go along.

Edit: Granted, the one B41 site in my area is 8T8R...  so that may be helping the edge of cell performance for me.

  2. I'd think if a b41 site is performing like a b25 that maybe it's still on old wiring or microwave versus the new fiber which allows the spectrum of b41 to utilize it

We were talking about signal strength / cell range not speed performance.  In our congested downtown area, even a -115 dBm B41 signal smokes a -80 dBm B25 signal in terms of speed throughput. (approx. 20 mbps vs 1 mbps respectively)

  3. A question for those of you with B41 around...  How does your B41 signal strength compare to B25 when the signals are coming from the same site?

We found one live site this week in my area, but the B41 signal is at least -25 dBm worse than B25 on the same site.  Granted this is in an area with some taller buildings and stuff to block the line of sight...  They could very well just have the power turned down for testing purposes since no other sites with B41 equipment installed are live in the area, but I wanted to get some feedback from other iPhone 6 users.

  4. Apple really let me down with how buggy their public release of iOS 8 has been. Lots of app crashes, and the developers for some reason are taking forever to update their apps. All of the zoomed in apps look like crap and don't utilize the whole screen. Tapatalk, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat...all of the ones you would think would have updated them already!

^ This.  My biggest issue is whenever I use an app that hasn't been updated for the newer screen size and I have to use the keyboard...  Right when I get used to the standard size on the messaging app so I can type without looking, I open up an app not scaled correctly, and if I don't double check what I typed I look like an idiot.

  5. I wouldn't be surprised if they just gave you a new phone for the complications they put you through. Apple has been known to do that. I once waited a while at the Apples store and they replaced my brothers phone and gave him a brand new screen protector "because he had one on before right?"   :)

I guess I'll find out soon enough.  I had my wife check her email and the email she received yesterday says that we will receive a new phone (it goes through the new serial number, etc), and then at the bottom it says "Your card has been charged", but it doesn't state an amount and nothing has shown up on my bank account yet.

I'm sure I'll wake up tomorrow and see the $322 charge show it's ugly head again.

  6. So...  Apple has my wife's shattered iPhone 6.  And they are now telling me that I initially selected to have to replaced instead of repaired (not true).  So they are going to end up charging me for the full replacement price (I think $299) instead of the $109 for just the screen.

This is the first time I have had to deal with Apple service, and I am not impressed.  Very frustrating.  When I initially went to start the repair service, I didn't see an option for just repair, so I even went into Apple Chat and made sure that they would repair it if it ends up being repairable.  The rep assured me that everyone gets charged the $299 first (without Applecare+) and then after diagnostics if they discover it is repairable then they go that route.  Instead, they didn't even test my wife's device.  They just automatically set it up for a replacement!      Can't help but laugh...  but very disappointed.  I hope they can work this out with me.....

Just for an update to my issues before:

So I was told that they would charge my account for the repair/replacement whenever they ship the device.  Well...  they shipped it yesterday and it has already arrived at my house according to a neighbor - but I haven't been charged yet.

For anyone that has gone through Apple repairs before - how long does it typically take?  I would like to know whether or not I am being charged for only the screen repair ($109) or full repair ($299).  Interestingly, based on their repair status site, it looks like they indeed shipped a replacement, but I was told via Chat that if only the screen was damaged they may or may not have the parts and could instead ship a new device but still only charge for the screen.

Maybe they found something wrong with the device to no fault of my wife that caused a replacement for free via factory warranty?  A guy can dream right.

  8.

    Well you're wrong

Uecker, I have my dBm showing permanent by doing the home button trick..

It doesn't stick though.  The next time you go into Field Test Mode and then leave it defaults back to the dots.  I guess I can just try to remember to hold the power button then hold the home button each time...  Just a pain...  Oh well.

  9. Hey guys... a question for all of you that have been using iOS for awhile.  Is there a way to keep the dBm number instead of the signal strength dots?

I have tried the go to field test mode and then hold the power button and home button until it resets.  It will stay then, but the next time I go into field test mode and then leave it reverts to the dots.  Do we have a way to permanently, unless I manually change it, stay on the numbers?

With B41 starting to pop up, I find myself going into field test mode a lot more, and then I lose the numeric representation.

  10. could it be that there will be 2 nexus devices, the 5.9" that everyone has basically seen now. and one based directly on the Moto X using the XT 1092 model number.

That's what I'm holding out hope for.

I think it is looking rather grim...  USCC has the Moto X up for sale online, and I am pretty sure they are using the XT 1092 model since no others include B12.

  11. There might be some markets where there is more bandwidth on the non B41's .. I really dont know but recall talk of going from 5Mhz to 10Mhz.. Does this ring a bell to anyone?

Aj made this chart a while back... I do not have a link to it

Well some markets have 2 5x5 B25 LTE carriers in areas (Chicago for one), but there aren't any 10x10 carriers on B25 or B26 and probably never will be.

  12. About 10 AM my Nexus 5 down to 17% battery. Mostly streaming audio (KTRS). My buddy Don charges his 6+ every other day. It gets tempting to bite the Apple bullet.

Wow...  it shouldn't be that bad.

If you are into rooting and stuff, try using Franco's kernel.  I was able to get over a days worth off each charge with approximately 4-5 hours of on screen time with my N5.  (But the iPhone 6 does give me better battery life)

  13. Howdy.

If someone can confirm my math, that would be great.

I have 2 phones on Easy Pay and one Tab 3 tablet. Also a corporate discount.

If I get the 8GB data allowance that would be:

    $70 - corp discount + $25 each phone + Easy Pay charges + $10 for the tablet + fees = monthly payments.

All 3 devices would share the 8GB per billing cycle.

    Do I have this right?

    Thanks.

    Mav.   :ninja:

That seems about right...  Or for $10 more per month you up it to 20GB since it knocks off $10 for each phone line access fee.

  14. The capped plans have the same network prioritization language in the terms and conditions the last time I looked at them, just like Framily does. Not that I have ever noticed being throttled, I'm starting to wonder if they put it in there for possible future use. The doubled data is kind of tempting though, I was pricing it out against Framily myself. I still come out way ahead in price because of access fee's, but I would have a lot more data available to my hotspot and tablet as well as legal tethering.

Yeah...  The I have been having the same thoughts.  I have a max discount Framily, but my wife is currently only on the 1GB and she occasionally goes over.  Also my iPad only has 1 GB, and it would be nice to be able to use it as much as I'd like while out and about.

I know that the data fee ($100+ depending on the package) would all be discounted based on my 22% employer discount, so that makes it a little bit more tempting, but I would still end up paying quite a bit more per month.  Not to mention, I would kind of feel bad for all of those that joined my Framily if I up and leave it.

  15. Having a decent signal helps too.... If you have a bad data signal, this data hungry monster is going to drain the battery quick.

My screenshot above is with me at work today where I don't get that good of a signal (Barely hangs on to LTE. Sometimes knocks down to 3G depending on the room). I am lucky though in that at my house I have a fantastic signal.

  16. was she trying to bend her phone? Lol. Had to. But really. How did she manage that?

I guess she thought she had it in a zipped up area in her purse, but of course it wasn't so it fell out.  I was kind of annoyed so I didn't really hear the details, but I assume it fell on its face.  She already had a few scratches on the frame from dropping it on day 2.

Oh well..  Guess we will get the screen repaired and then instantly put that thing in the thickest case possible.  I hope I find one completely made of rubber that makes it look like a mini VCR tape because it is so thick.  :D
