  1. Question for those of you on the new radio...  Do you get kicked off of eHRPD, sit on 1x for awhile, and then get shunted over to EVDO afterwords?

It keeps happening to me every time I lose LTE.  The data still works, so no big deal, but I was wondering if it is something local to me or the radio itself doing it.

  2. Awww..  Thanks to whoever the mod was that deleted that "theTRUTH" guy's post, but I would've loved to had been able to post a response!  I had started my reply on my phone and realized how much easier it would be to grab my laptop to put forth a great counter-argument.

Oh well...  His post was certainly filled with misinformation.  I have had literally none of the "issues" he claimed exist.  (with the exception of today from a rare hour long outage.  The first one I have experienced with Sprint since joining)

  3. Really long boot animation when booting up for the first time.

Did you wipe your userdata too?  On XDA it appears that people who just flash boot, system, and the radio are having some pretty nasty bugs.  I'm still waiting it out for the time being.  I also went to test the new radio, but here in WI we are having a pretty major Sprint outage.

  4. I'd be sure do a proper backup before flashing the new image.  Just in case you need to return to 4.4.4 because of bugs.

Yeah, I took care of that yesterday.  Waiting for initial reviews on XDA before going too far.  I'll probably start with the radio and see how that holds up in the meantime.

  5. So once I've reinstalled the 513, if I backup the EFS , then if (and when?) it automatically updates, all I have to do is restore my EFS backup and the PRL will come along for the ride? No ADB on the computer to restore the goodness that is 513?

Yeah, just restore the EFS backup in TWRP or whatever recovery you use.  I've done it numerous times.  Really nice to not have to go through the whole process for the PRLs on the N5.

  6. Forced prl update overnight for me as well.

Same here...  Second time in about a week.  They sure don't want me to keep the custom 513 PRL.

Oh well, I have it backed up in my EFS backup in TWRP.  :D

  7. With Google I/O starting shortly, 11AM CDT, I thought we may want a thread to discuss it.  The rumor is that they will be previewing the next version of Android.  Also, they could possibly be showing the Nexus 8/9?

  8. So I've been running .15 again since about two days after the new radio came out. The past two days or so I hadn't been able to get my n5 to pick up 3g at all, it just flopped back and forth between 1xrtt and 1x800. I flashed the newest radio about a minute ago and instantaneous -88dbm Ehrpd signal upon reboot. Anyone else notice issues like this before with .15? Its going to be a pain reflashing every time I leave and come home lol.

I ended up flashing back to the .15 radio a few days ago for the extra coverage (mainly the 5-8 dBm boost on B26).  I don't have anymore issues connecting to eHRPD on the .15 radio than I do on the newest .16 radio.

  9. I have never received alerts.  It has always been on by default.  I am using Textra SMS, and I am not using Google Voice integration.

They would've been nice to have had the last few days.  Quite a bit of severe weather around the Madison area Monday-Wednesday, with most of it being during the overnight hours.

Oh well.  I have other ways to get alerts.

  10. Could mean nothing, but I kept a B26 signal in areas that on my way home from work with the .13 radio I dropped to 3G.

I will do much more in depth comparisons tomorrow.  A storm rolled in so I cut my drive a little short.

Also --- probably a placebo effect --- but I was noticing much better transitions to B26.  Numerous times lately my phone would go straight from B25 to 3G in areas with B26 active (no eCSFB issues here.  Very mature B25 and B26 area).  Never dropped to 3G on my ride throughout town just now.

  11. Took them many many months for an update and now a second one within a few weeks.  Crazy.  And a new radio, that shocked me.

Limited testing...  B25 is about the same.  I'm going to go for a ride in a bit and see how B26 performs.

  12. Did anybody's PRL change with that update last night? Mine didn't.

My PRL tried to update after the forced profile update...  But it failed.  I manually updated it this morning for the fun of it.  I have the premier PRL saved on a TWRP backup so I can flash it whenever I need some useable roaming data.  :D

  13. When can we expect to use this expanded coverage? I see that Carolina West Wireless is on it and I could REALLY use that in the next couple months!

Not entirely sure...  Do they offer LTE at all yet though?  I was looking through some of the websites of these carriers, and most do not even offer LTE yet.  Probably going to be a while before anything worthwhile comes out of this.

  14. Mike, I noticed something that I think is related to the null values being reported in the database. Every now and then when I hand off to the next site, I will get this:

The GCI and TAC data are missing. It will stay like this for 2-5 seconds before the rest of the data populates. I noticed that when I have null values in the DB the PCI is the only value reported.

Not sure what would be causing the delay but I thought I'd share my observation. Has anybody else with the null values problem noticed this as well?

I get that quite a bit now on my N5.  I would say I am at a point where 90% of my "new" log entries are null values with only the PCI being populated since I have logged pretty much every site and sector that I frequently use.

  15. A new Samsung tablet is coming out (shocker), but this time it sounds like the 10.5" version will be coming with Sprint Spark later this year.  (wish the 8.4" version was coming to Sprint...  already have a full sized tablet)

I have always sort of wanted an Android tablet that I could use LTE on, but I ended up going with an iPad since most of the tablets Sprint tends to get seem to be low end.  Looks pretty nice.  I might be interested in this if there turns out to be a pretty good dev community so I can get rid of Touchwiz.  :D

    What are your thoughts?

  16. But look at the greater picture.  Maybe Sprint cannot compete with VZW LTE deployment.  T-Mobile and AT&T are another story.  Sprint has deployed LTE to ridiculously greater area than T-Mobile has.  Heck, Sprint even has LTE in places where Ma Bell does not and may not for years because of spectrum issues.

^^ This.  Where I live, my only options are Sprint, USCC, and Verizon.  No native service at all from AT&T or T-Mobile.  Coverage wise around here, USCC is probably the best, but they tend to think they are Verizon and charge a ridiculous amount for the size of their native footprint.  I travel quite a bit, which makes them a no-go.  (also their LTE tends to have very high pings around here)

I have just always hated Verizon with their pricing and how they have pretty much taken over the market.  Sprint intrigued me last fall with their unlimited data (although I realistically only need a couple GB a month, but to know that I can use more if needed is nice), and honestly because of this site.  This was the only site that I found about a carrier and the work being done to improve its network.  Here, I feel like I can be in the loop to what is going on around me because of this site.  With Verizon and USCC, you don't tend to get this much dedication and involvement from the community.

Partial rant/preach over --  In my experiences with Sprint's LTE, I average 20-30 in small towns (where I live) on B25 and around 8 now with B26 active where I work in a crowded university setting.  Sprint has more than met my expectations.

  17. I come with more comparisons since I activated my old G2 for a day or two.  This time the Nexus 5 (on the new .13 radio) vs the LG G2 with KitKat update.  Also, just so it is all in one place, I included the prior .15 radio measurements in parenthesis:

    Spot #1

    N5 B25: -111-113  --- (-108-109 on .15 radio)

    N5 B26: -105-107 --- (-101-103 on .15 radio)

    G2 B25: -113-115

    G2 B26: -106-108

    Spot #2

    N5 B25: -112-113 --- (-107-108 on .15 radio)

    N5 B26: -105-106 --- (-100-103 on .15 radio)

    G2 B25: -111-113

    G2 B26: -106-107

    Spot #3

    N5 B25: -110-112 --- (-103-104 on .15 radio)

    N5 B26: -104-105 --- (-99-100 on .15 radio)

    G2 B25: -113-114

    G2 B26: -105-106

It appears that the N5 is still about equal to, or maybe a hair better than the G2.  Although anything could come into play and a couple dBms are certainly within the margin of error on a simple test like this.  Again, tests are done in my office which is facing towards a courtyard in the opposite direction of the site.  Also, I am probably a mile and a half to two miles away in a brick building.  All measurements are from the same site and the same sectors.
