  1. serial port (that boat is listing starboard robert lol)
  2. lets be honest dumbing down for the average engadget reader... if they really wanted info real info they would have been here already...
  3. The journalist, writer, guy in his underwear living at his moms who doesnt even pay for his own cell service. that wrote the article is a hater and probably doesnt have anything ever good to say about anything. or if an original thought was ever made by him it would probably die of loneliness
  4. Bricks do... The rear inside the bricks do.. I live in a block townhouse the lower level near impossible to get reception upstairs where it's woods construction. 4 bars...
  5. And it also makes sense going in from Havasu and Kingman you can simultaneously move up into Vegas.. And south to Phoenix. But that shouldn't get in the way of a chance to give our fellow communities a little jealous ribbing lol
  6. Oh don't take that as a complaint... I'm truly happy that az is seeing love and somebody has to be first.. But ya gotta understand lol. Kingman withthe eexception of an old western film star being from there it's biggest claim to fame and recent tourist "attraction" is you can stay in the hotel room that timothy mcveigh planned okc bombing lol
  7. I think it's probably a matter of tower companies own not usually one tower ina community but lots. Sprint can get permits at multiple sites at once. This makes it far easier then having to go to the electric company where you would need special permissions at each site. So American owns let's say 5 towers ina community the permit process would be the same four all 5 towers so one shot. Going to a utility company gets you a site.. Then a school another tower castle 8 towers. The office building in the park. Another towr. Path of least resistance
  8. Let's look at my metro for an example... Whenever phoenix gets lte. It won't just be phx it will be mesa. It will be Tempe.. It will be Apache Junction. Glendale. Chandler Gilbert and Maricopa.. And to a lesser extent casa Grande.. 7 so called smaller cities most ppl never heard of one metropolitan area. If only the city of phoenix received lte before sprint moved on to another market.. Only a small percentage of the phx market would be represented. Sprint is lighting up markets. Which are composed of large cities and the smaller towns around them. Look at the big picture not just the I want lte now I live in a big city and don't care about who else is in my market. Making a network that works efficiently is more than just putting up arrays and hope for the best. I get and understand your frustration I live in the 5th highest populated city while towns back home in Indiana are getting lte(Indianapolis market) Iget the frustration but understanding why one market iinvolves more than just a any one city helps. Someday we all will have lte... Someone has to be first and someone has to be last it will eventually get done.
  9. Folks in dc how soon ya all forget... Network vision was moving along nicely lte as well in dc... Then June 29th freak storm the "dericho" hit uprooted trees devastated power lines and set back sprints efforts by a bunch. Then just as they get close again.. Hurricane sandy hits... Weather has not been kind. But at least your network is in the works.. Come to phoenix... I'll trade my 7k down and 25k up at the airport. For yours any day.
  10. Thanks Robert.. If your wife is like my gf... Me getting online to deal with "work" while on a trip or vacation you did that at risk to your body. And life. But my core question still exists these legacy Nextel towers and i use the word tower very loosely here. I found one that is bolted to the side of this guys house. I couldn't get a good picture the owner was a little weirded. Out by my request to take a picture of it. And wouldn't et me on his property. It explains why I can't find these antennas on net monitor. When I use the very nice database at www.antennasearch.com so when I cross reference that by searching for sprint towers i see the stuff on network.sprint.com but none of the towers i see on net monitor. So it dawned on me one day. Try Nextel. And oh look there they are. So my question goes back to there is a giant hole in phx because of the mass usage of Nextel antennas that cant be upgraded easily and better to decommission is this the reason why phx took longer to build out. And since network vision is designed to do more with less. I know when things are going to happen. I know the cookie cutter answer for the masses of what's happening. That's not enough for me. I want to understand what when where HOW. i want to take it apart and KNOW it. So im pushing for a more inside view. Not so much the and no offense to anyone here that just want to know when lte is coming and could care less about how. I mean how many people out of the thousands that come here takes time at work to see if new antennas are added to a database then goes looking for them. I'd say it's in the 10's. So im trying to understand tempe. East Mesa since I'm looking for a house out there and yes one of my buying points is how far away am I from a tower. It's driving my gf nuts. Change services... She says... She will never understand. So there it is i see sprint towers and antennas i see legacy Nextel crap. Trying to figure it all out... Off to work. Have a good day guys I'm out
  11. LTE may not go online til 2013 that doesnt mean they wont start working on backhaul and engineering now. there are upgrades going on all over town. im not saying anything is anywhere near complete just there are things happening id like to know what... my biggest question isnt about lte or network vision, but what is going to happen with the legacy nextel sites and how do they effect NV, and lte in the long run...
  12. and robert i know you are on a well deserved vaca so if anyone else wants to step up that would be great lol
  13. I know that network vision is moving along in the phx area improvements the last few months and additional the next 6 months they are in full swing. My question pertains to nextel... I noticed while trying to find sprint towers on the website(sprint website) that i know by using netmonitor looking at resources at sprint they supposedly do not exist... until... it dawned on me to use the nextel lookup and oh there they are all those towers i am using in tempe... my questions are as they decommision these old nextel sites and upgrade sprint sites is this why number one im data roaming ALOT in the last few weeks? also when they upgrade the backhaul how long does that take per tower, and find it hard to belive that would effect the signal with the exception id expect the tower to just go off line, or do they put it all in place then "flip the switch" so to speak? also is the large amount of legacy nextel towers in this area the reason why phoenix area was put on the back burner so long and is the hard part in phx to see which nextel sites to keep and which ones to throw away? or is it got nothing to do with it? i live in the heart of tempe and two days ago i lost voice service and data, i couldnt make a phone call though i was showing 5 bars it makes me believe that something is going on hell i left the house and it wasnt just one tower i was having that happen to, but 5. in a cluster between roosevelt hardy and university areas, all the way west to the airport, where as soon as i hit that tower on the airport property i got 8 text messages at once and was able to call out again. hopefully this is a sign of things getting better here in the valley of the sun.
  14. Samsung has ported a fix... go settings/system update/update Samsung software. Let it install/restart will say update complete. Go to Google wallet... all good
  15. Though prior sprint phones have had roaming on international(my old touch pro2 being one.. several.black berrys as well) the s3 does not though with wifi skype works everywhere
  16. forgot about this little tidbit on why the 105 is probably sprints S3 http://phandroid.com/2012/05/08/sprints-galaxy-s3-pops-up-in-user-agent-profile-packs-dual-core-processor-and-16gb-of-storage/ sure these things can be faked, but they also can be verified, and phandroid is very good... so add this to the rest of the rumor mill. id say best guess August 19th or August 26th for a release date... just in time for labor day...
  17. This "phone" is getting around...i really think its photo shopped it showed up several days ago claiming to be the sprint galaxy s3 on a different website... http://www.christianpost.com/news/sprints-version-of-the-samsung-galaxy-s3-surfaces-photo-74741/ i would have to say that the NDA-105 is probalby the S3 i know that phone obviously is NOT. but that doesnt mean its an unknown samsung phone either... The timing for the S3 is right peer review can happen with just specs.. the entry into the lab is 4 days after it was announced, in london. granted we all know that its going to be a snapdragon core, since the exynos doesnt do LTE. Summer 2012 for the USA release, the S1 took a while to get through the labs. so did the S2 why would we expect the S3 to be sprint box readythe day the rest of the world gets it...
  18. Robert question for you... knowing when things are completed are great.. but is there a way to show us sites actively in the process of being upgraded. Yes I want my cake too lol
  19. is there a possibility to write an app to connect to a cell thats in test mode or is that a function controlled by the cell site that wont allow a phone to connect to it while its in testing mode?
  20. I dont remember what i was using i want to say it was one of nudedudes tweaks but i was getting some decent improvements with the extended battery
  21. well the phone is 6 months old... should be on amazon $1 deals soon... im all for buying the newest and the greatest phones, but since LTE is in its infancy why buy a phone thats already half way to its EOL, when better phones are right on hte horizon?
  22. ya know i thought the same thing when i first bought extra batteries for my epic... i bout a couple extra batteries but the battery life on FROYO and Gingerbread was so awful i finally bit the bullet and bought that monster, extended batteries have been a way of life i remember my old 6700 a brick of phone in and of itself but you added that extended battery and it became a monster titan and touch pro same thing... hopefully with the dual core and the battery saving aspects of Ice Cream Sandwich and later on Jelly bean, i can actually have a big phone without the big battery... will wait and see.
  23. oh no now the rumors really start...whats it gonna have will continue what will be the actual release date, who will get it first will it be an iphone killer, (which is a phrase i absolutly hate.) then we see it and if the iphone is shown later the rumors will go about how much better the iphone will be.. hell the damn thing will cure cancer and bring steve jobs back... and then it will release, and the rumors for what the SG IV will be like starts then a year nd a half cycle begins anew
