  1. One of the guys over there seems convinced that he knows an inside source that had Samsung reps told his source that the Note 3 will be triband LTE and even convinced himself that the FCC docs filed under SM-N900P are what is known as an ES (engineering sample).  He believes that the final FCC docs for the Sprint variant have not been filed yet because the FCC ID does not start with a "SPH" like what Samsung phones have traditionally started with and that those final FCC docs for the Sprint variant will contain triband LTE support under some SPH number.  I see what he is trying to say since the Sprint Galaxy Note 2 model number was SPH-L900.

I don't really believe what he is saying but does that make any sense though?  Do OEMs like Samsung ever file FCC documents for an engineering sample?   It sounds too fishy to me especially if no other carriers are doing the same thing.

It also seems way too late to mess with engineering samples at this point. The only thing that gives me hope is Sprint hasn't opened a preorder or talked about a release date yet. Maybe we will get a late release so they can finish throwing together a triband version.

  2. I'm still considering the Note 3. It has everything I want in a device (besides triband) and more. The size of the device is perfect, and I love the S Pen and SD card slot. Unless the Nexus 5/Android 4.4 has something amazing, I think I can last another year on just 1900mhz LTE and then just buy the Note 4 when it comes out.

Hopefully all the heavy data users around me upgrade to triband devices.  :P

  3. My guess is that note3 has been in development for longer period time than other upcoming phones and even though it is getting released around the same time as other first gen tri-band devices, the earlier development start time precluded note 3 tri-band support.

This is the only logical explanation I can think of.

  4. All of this is surprising to me! If the Note 3 does end up being just single band, I guess we can throw out the chances of a triband GS4 as well. It wouldn't make sense to have a triband s4, but not a triband note 3. Heck, it doesn't even make sense to have a triband GS4 mini and a single band Note 3. But Sprint said we would get a triband device from Samsung before years end.

...I don't know what I think at this point lol :frantic:

  5. While the technology exists to do what you say ("take a Sprint SIM, toss it in, and be up and running"), I find it unlikely that Sprint will all of a sudden start to use it.

Why not? Every Verizon LTE phone does.

Over time it would cut down on customer service costs. I am sure a significant number of people are having to call in to switch phones, either because they don't want to deal with the imei switcher online, or it simply isn't working.

  6. The FCC authorization docs show tests run for CDMA2000 band class 10 and LTE band class 41.  Those are practically unique to Sprint, especially in combination.

Additionally, LTE bands 4, 5, and 17 are included, covering AT&T and T-Mobile.  The outlier in the tests is LTE band class 13.  It is currently unique to VZW and was not included.

So, if this a new Nexus 5, maybe Google is getting back at VZW for screwing over previous Nexus handsets.

It is kind of strange they didn't just bump it up to hexaband for a nationwide nexus model. Unless there was simply no room? Or maybe Sprint agreed to terms that Verizon wouldn't agree to?  Like perhaps being sold only through the play store?

  7. So do we expect to see a Nexus 5 available on all carriers this time around?  It was kinda sad to see the Nexus 4 only available to Tmobile last year.

I'm expecting it based on what I see in this thread. Its down between the Nexus 5 and Note 3 for me now!

Edit: I do hope if they bring a nexus back to CDMA carriers, that they work out some kind of deal to get the devices fully supported in AOSP, and updates pushed by Google would be nice...

  8. We've concluded that the Note III's FCC docs aren't out yet, right?  Why is everyone so solid that there's no SVDO/SVLTE?  Is it because the G2, which is using the same CPU doesn't have it?

From what I understand, before the G2 FCC docs came out, there were already rumors of triband devices not including SVLTE due to cost concerns. Now that the G2 and this GS4 Mini do not include it, the prediction is the rest will not include it either.

  9. It's not that I tether frequently (which I do tether my s3 in emergency situations.). It's while sitting on a phone call, that something as small in data as an email has been crucial. To me Svxx is just as important as call waiting to others. It's like sprint refuses to give me what I need. Finally I can get an flagship smartphone from sprint that is international ready, but I lose simultaneous voice and data. It's like I can't win and by winning I mean paying my hard earned money for.

You should try grooveip. Its an app in the playstore that does voice over IP with your google voice number. It works solid for me on LTE, even while driving! Maybe 2% of calls drop, but it also comes with an improvement in voice quality (from what I've observed.)  :tu:

With Sprint you have the option to integrate your number with google voice, so this set up is quite nice.
