  1. After, playing around with the Moto X 2014 at the AT$T store. I'm definitely sold on the Nexus 6. I love the screen, the design, and the soft touch material on the back. So I know that the Nexus 6 will be a great device. Maybe I can ditch my tablets once I pick up the Nexus 6.

I'm pretty sure I want the 64 GB version.  I'm glad to hear your impressions of the 2014 Moto X were so favorable.  I'm just a little hesitant to order on the 29th as I would like to see how it goes for the early adopters.  :)

Is anyone going to place their order on the 29th?

  2. Well, I got the update today but now Carrier says LG.  Whenever I try to update profile, it says Network Error.  SignalCheck says Mobile Data is unregistered.  I thought the OTA was supposed to make things better, not break them...!

Ascertion, Did you try to reactivate your G2 on Sprint. When my G2 came back from factory service it also showed LG as the carrier. Even the Sprint splash screen was replaced with an LG splash screen. After I forced the G2 to reactivate itself, all the Sprint stuff came back. It took several reboots and updates to get it all back to normal though. The profile did update after forcing the device to reactivate.

  3. I just got the Moto X (2013) nano sim shipped to me (UPC: 760492013512, Description: SIMCARD LTEGSM 4FF USIM REMOV). It should arrive in the next few business days. I hope that gets me all ready to go for the Nexus 6.

Thanks for your post.  I just ordered the nano sim as well.  Want to be all ready for when the Nexus 6 gets here!

  4. I'm looking at maybe getting my Note back from a friend for a backup/android fix when I get bored with my iPhone. My only concern is the ridiculous amount of dropped calls on the note. Was this ever fixed?

My Note 3 is deactivated at the moment, since I went with a Tri Band device, but I did not ever have an issue with dropped calls.  Some people did though...

  5. My Sharp AQUOS Crystal uses a Nano SIM and so does the iPhones. I don't think it will be too bad. And if you buy from Sprint, it will ship with it.

I have a question about purchasing Nexus 6 from Sprint. My memory is pretty foggy on this, but didn't individuals who bought their Nexus 5's from T-Mobile have trouble getting them activated on Sprint? Or, were they unable to activate them on Sprint at all? Some sort of MEID issues?

Since the Nexus 6 works on all 4 cell providers, if we want to sell it after a period of time, would the next owner have an issue if he or she were to try and activate it on a carrier other than Sprint?

I would hate to purchase from Google Play and then go through the hassle of trying to get a SIM card from Sprint. I'd rather just purchase from Sprint where the SIM is already installed.

  6. If you use dark mode or 'black' the text defaults to white so it's legible. If you use the standard color theme the text is black.

Thanks, I hate the stock SMS app on my G3.  It sticks strictly to the 160 character (CDMA) rule, so even if you insert a smiley, it breaks the message apart - can't turn that feature off either.  Used to use Handcent and tried Chomp, but didn't like them very much.

  7. I've experience it HD calls prior to getting the ZVD but haven't seen it since getting the update last week. And I know for sure I've met the criteria seeing as my wife has the S4T and her work tower is NV complete. It shouldn't matter that I'm on 1x800 when calling should it?

I don't think it matters at all.  My phone usually camps out on 1xRTT since I am very close to the NV tower.  My girlfriend's S4T is on 1x800 and we have successfully had HD calls - only once in a blue moon though...

We both meet all the criteria that dleewee described above, but rarely experience HD voice.  I'm not sure why.

I don't know what exactly decides when you get HD.  We both live very close to NV towers, so signal should not be an issue.

  8. Not sure if it's the same as I can hear them almost always very loud and clear and I have full reception bars. There's also a lot of forums reporting similar issues on the Verizon version. This may also be a HD voice issue. Who knows. In any case, hopefully the upcoming update from Sprint which is suppose to improve LTE and HD voice will resolve the issue.

Yeah, I hope that does get resolved with the ZVE update.  When I experience the issue with all my phones, I have a great signal, so for me at least, it must be the network.

  9. Yes, Yes.  I have this situation.  If I happen to drop off LTE and get on 3G in some coverage hole, it does not go back on LTE even when driving by a site with both 1900 and 800 LTE active and strong.  Sometimes it NEVER goes back to LTE even after several hours.  I am not sure if it is a Galaxy S5 problem or a network issue.  An airplane toggle puts me back on LTE and it will work fine until I somehow get back in a nasty coverage situation.

Happens to my girlfriend's S4T as well.  LTE never comes back until an airplane mode toggle.

  10. I've been having issues with my LG G2 where people can't hear me or barely hear me with static interference etc. when I first receive a call after awhile or I make the call despite great reception. I can hear them perfectly loud and clear. If I hang up and call them back immediately, it will always correct the problem and now they can hear me loud and clear. It's almost as if there is delay to activating the microphone properly and therefore subsequent calls work properly after the microphone activation had a chance to actually catch up and then on. This is similar to previous described issues with the G2 microphone but different in that it works properly if I hang up and call back immediately. I don't remember having this specific issues before (Although I had significant triband issues that have improved but not completely). It started maybe a few weeks ago at no specific tower locations. My G2 is stock, with only apps from the playstore. Not sure if it's a Sprint network issue or a phone software or phone hardware issue. Testing on voice recording appears to work properly. Anybody else have this problem? Any fix? I'm about to dump LG and Sprint...

That may be a network issue. I've been having similar issues around the Harrisburg PA area. When I place or receive a call there can be a call connection and no sound or very low volume to the point where I can't hear the other party. Disconnecting and calling back (sometimes multiple times) will fix the problem.

At first I thought it was my phone going bad; I was using a Samsung Galaxy Mega at the time. I swapped out the phone to a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and still had the problem. Not wanting to live life with a single band device, I swapped the Note 3 out for my LG G2 - still have the problem. Currently using an LG G3 and still have the problem. I think it may be a network issue.

I reported the issue and Sprint corrected it (known issue in my area). Unfortunately yesterday it's back.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the situation can be reciprocal for the other party as well. Sometimes the situation occurs simultaneously for both parties.

  11. Major eCSFB issues at my house in Lower Paxton. If I force my phone to CDMA mode calls work fine. When on LTE, it won't fall back to take a call. Just get a busy signal. Both my G2 and my wife's HTC One Max, same thing.

Did you call and report it?

My girlfriend and I have been having quite a few phone calls to each other where it's just dead air - neither one of us has any sound in the call but we stay connected.  We have to keep disconnecting and calling again until we get a call with sound.  Possibly an HD voice issue?

Anyone else experiencing this in the Shentel area?

    LG G3

just some information, i usually dont trade my phones but i was at best buy buying a tablet and i have a s3 laying around, so i asked how much for the s3 because has a creaked bezel has cero value. so i asked for the g3 and the value was 40 dollars .the sprint store is on the first floor went there just to double check sprint offer me 20 for the s3 and 65 for the g3 because they are consider broken phones.

    Wow!

Someone who really knows what they are talking about made a great post in the forums about battery life, and the things to do and not do. It was very well written, with facts that back everything up. I wish I knew where it was. One of the points was to not drain the battery to the point of shutting the device off if you can avoid it, preferably not below 10%.

I'll have to dig around and see if I can find that post, I would enjoy reading it.  I have read so many different schools of thought on this subject.

Being a chemist by profession, I understand the reactions and mechanisms that take place with the different ions, elements and metals that are used to manufacture batteries.  We analyze this stuff every day in the lab where I work.  The only place I can really foresee a problem is when the battery enters into the state of deep discharge for a prolonged period of time.

I have had really great success conditioning new batteries by letting them discharge to the point of device shut-off for the first few cycles. Just yesterday I had  2.5 hours of screen on time and 23 minutes of phone calls on my G3 with total use time on the battery of 43 hours and the device still reported 47% battery left.  That was using the YAAB app for auto brightness - which I keep the minimum brightness level pretty high.

I have used this battery conditioning method on my Note 3, Galaxy Mega and G2 all with similar results.

I certainly would not want anyone to ruin, or potentially ruin their battery, but it sure works for me....

I'll try and find the article that you spoke of as well.

    Enough said!  :)

No! Do not do this! Letting the battery completely discharge actually decreases the capacity. The more times you do this, the greater the effect.

    Sent from my Nexus 5

Sorry, but I disagree with this. You could hurt the battery by letting it completely discharge and staying there in a discharged state,as the anode could fuse to the cathode. By recharging when the phone shuts itself off will avoid this.

The G3 for instance shuts down around 1% The circuits in the phone do not allow for complete discharge.

Chemically, the battery has only so many reactions that can take place in discharge, recharge. Charging a partially discharged battery counts as a cycle in the finite life of the battery.

Here is a nice primer from ZDnet.

thanks! i didn't think the battery discharge thing was still needed so i told him not to worry about doing that  based on your results it definitely sounds like his battery isn't holding up very well. we are still within the 14 days so we might see about getting the battery exchanged.

These new batteries are not supposed to have the memory effect. I do find that by using the procedure I described to you, it helps condition them.

Even my electric razor with a Li ion cell recommends doing that every 6 months.

thanks for the reply! when you say a "full day" what would that mean in hours? 12-14? also whats torch mode?

also i should have added, his screen is set to auto brightness at 70%. in the screenshot i posted he was still over 50% with almost 8 hours off the charger, so that doesn't sound too bad when talking about "a full day" but his screen on time seems really low for that much battery used.

he said his usage so far today was 1 30 second video, couple of calls, texting, some facebook, and some internet browsing. i wouldn't call that heavy usage by any means.

By a full day I meant 18 hours. Still after 18 hours, I usually have 15 to 30 percent battery left.

By torch mode I meant 100% brightness. I use an app called "Yet Another Auto Brightness" YAAB. The app allows you to set minimum levels of brightness and maximum levels of brightness.

It would be a travesty to have such a beautiful screen and then dim it down to save battery.

Tell your brother to let the battery totally discharge until the phone shuts itself off. Repeat this about 5 times in a row. Then start using and charging normally. This helps condition the battery to last longer between charges.

  12. Yes, they mentioned in the past that it was in the budget for 2015.    York & Harrisburg are two places that are likely to get attention for sure as they had WIMAX service via Clearwire.   The demand will be there.  Higher population areas have the need for Band 41.

Harrisburg is definitely getting B41 (I won't mention specific towers in this thread). I was talking to the Shentel tower service guy. Shentel is actually going through the prep stages as we speak.
