  1. Back in 1991 I ordered a brand new Oldsmobile Trofeo.  It had a Sony Trinitron CRT touchscreen in the dash.  Back then, when you hit the navigation button, a compus came up on the screen.

This system had a factory built in Motorola wired cell phone with an antenna installed on the back window glass.  The system could be used either with the on-screen controls or by picking up the handset which folded out of the center console storage compartment.

When the phone rang, the volume on the stereo would lower, so you could take the "hands free" call.

The transceiver for the phone was mounted under the rear parcel shelf in the trunk of the Trofeo.

To answer your question about reception:  YES, The reception was much better than today's handheld cell phones.  The output power was 3 watts as compared to today's 0.6 watts on the handheld units.

The Oldsmobile Trofeo was light years ahead of its time.  Using the CRT, you could arm the theft-deterrent system.  When the car was started, the CRT would ask for a security code.  If the code was not entered, the Motorola phone would dial a preselected number and report a theft in progress.

    Man, I miss that car!

  2. It's not just a Samsung issue.

My wife has a Galaxy S5.  I have a LG G3, we are both having the clock issue.

I've been in the Hershey/Harrisburg/Mechanicsburg/York area the past few days and have experienced it in all regions.  I was late to work on Thursday last week because of it.  But noticed it first on September 10th.  Thought it was just a glitch, restarted my phone and went about my day.

    Currently showing 10:30 when it's 11:32.

Alright then...  This is most definitely a Shentel issue.  I called and reported it to Sprint Friday evening.  Sprint may not have passed it along to the appropriate field engineer.  Or else, it's just low priority.  My girlfriend was late this morning because of it as well!

More people should start calling to report the issue.  Maybe then it will get bumped up a few notches!

  3. My girlfriend has been having this issue with her S4 mini for a few days. We even went in to the Sprint store to have them look at it. We were told it is a "Samsung issue". Which boggles my mind that it could be the hardware manufacturer causing the issue. However, I use a Nexus 5, and my time is correct. So, it could be how the manufacturer implements their time/date functions. I would hope that the manufacturer wouldn't tinker with such a core piece of functionality within the Android source code, but at this point it wouldn't surprise me.

Furthermore, I used to have a Samsung S3 before I upgraded last year, and I do recall a few times having an issue similar to this with my phone.

We are in Mechanicsburg, which is very close to Harrisburg/Hershey area where the others have reported this. My gut feeling is that this has to be a tower/network issue. However, seeing that all of the people reporting the issue thus far are using Samsung phones, perhaps it is a manufacturer issue.

Yeah, that's a good point.  So far only Samsung users have reported issues.  The phone is correct until it falls back to 3G to receive or place a call.

This only started towards the later part of last week.  Hopefully Samsung didn't screw something up with an update that started all this nonsense.

All the time stamps are incorrect on my incoming and outgoing email as well.

I wish I knew  why, when and how the phones are supposed to sync time over LTE.

  4. I tried six times while I was in Hershey and the time stayed correct. Each call lasted about 45 seconds and all where on B26 to start.

I'm in Harrisburg right now.  My phone system time is still 1 hour behind.  The weather widget is displaying the correct time though.  My girlfriend's phone (S4T) in Hummelstown has the same issues as mine.  System time behind by one hour and weather widget correct.

The phone system time will eventually correct itself, but falls back one hour when a call is placed or received.

I'm not sure how the whole time sync thing works on LTE.  Don't know how often it syncs, why or when.

  5. I also noticed this problem since yesterday. I'm also in Shentel-land but much further south. To fix it, I just turned off automatic update of time zone and it's been fine ever since. My phone was showing I was in Central time. Not sure what Shentel did in the last couple days but I hope they get it fixed. It did not effect my work phone which is an old flip phone.

I remember having this same problem when I was in Panama City, FL back in 2003 on Verizon, but that city lies right on the Eastern/Central time border. I'm nowhere near the Central time zone in VA.

My girlfriend's Samsung S4T had the same problem as well  tonight. I called Sprint and reported the issue. Hopefully they will let Shentel know there is a problem so it can be corrected.

  6. My G2 came back...as far as appearances go, they've completely replaced my screen! (The scratches that I received from last repair are totally gone!)  And my GPS works as of now.  Will keep you guys updated.  I'm so happy to get it back!

    Thanks for the update!

  7. I am experiencing a very strange issue on my Samsung Galaxy Mega Tri Band Phone.

I have searched the forums before posting this, and found no similar issues. Please forgive me if this was already posted elsewhere.

Upon a fresh boot, my Samsung Galaxy Mega displays the correct time. When I place a call, the time falls back 1 hour.

I'm not exactly sure how a cell phone grabs the time from the cellular system, but it appears that when my phone falls back to 3G for the call, the time resets to what the Shentel tower is broadcasting on 3G.

Are there separate time coordinations for LTE and 3G?

I can set the time manually to avoid the error, but that defeats the whole purpose of accurate time.

Does anyone else have this issue in the Harrisburg area? Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Maybe when the Mega falls back to take the call it interprets that literally as the end of daylight saving time and it "Falls Back" one hour! ;)

    Thinks

EDIT: This phenomenon happens when receiving a call as well.  As long as the phone falls back to 3G for a call, the time falls back one hour as well.  The only way to correct the time is to manually set it or reboot the phone.

  8. I love my note 2 and still use it on WiFi at home but I have a friend who has a ATT note 3 and he reports a number of issues and its 100% stock. Anyone here have to clear the cache once a week or the dialer takes forever to work? He also says updates on apps fail often and that the gallery app takes over 15 seconds to open with 150 pictures on the phone.

All his complaints have me reconsidering buying a note 4. He is a bit if an Apple fan boy so I would like some feedback from Note 3 users here before I make up my mind on the 4. It has the removable battery and microsd card slot I miss on the Nexus 5 but if the Note 3 was as buggy as Don says it wouldn't be worth risking getting the headaches.

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

My Note 3 has none of those issues.  Very fluent and smooth.  The only complaint I have is that the KK 4.4.2 update degraded GPS performance.  Hopefully that is addressed in 4.4.4.  Your friend should probably perform a factory reset to cure the lag.  Most likely something he installed is causing the issues.  I am however going to wait before I purchase a Note 4 to see what the general consensus is.

Anyone know exactly what is updated with 4.4.4?  Looked on the Sprint update site yesterday and no listing yet.

  9. Isn't it after 3 fixes and still a problem it's considered a lemon?  What's the lemon policy on phones?  Maybe Sprint will let you swap it out for another.

I think lemon laws vary from state to state. Anyway, it's probably up to the manufacturer to replace and not Sprint. I'd have to send it in a few more times with the same results (no GPS after the repair).

Keep us posted on how your G2 turns out, especially a couple of weeks after the repair. Mine worked perfectly right after I received it back from LG (not including the new designer nicks they put in the trim), but then failed a little later.

    Gool luck with yours Ascertion!

  10. I sent mine in for a GPS fix.  Chat is stating they fixed a Touchscreen issue and that my "board" was swapped.  Not sure what that means and I didn't even know there was a Touchscreen issue.  Maybe the board replacement repaired the GPS. I'll know when I get the device back.  (Likely by Thursday.)

That's the exact same fix mine got when I sent it in for the GPS not working.  I use the word 'fix" very loosely.  My GPS failed again after the G2 was returned to me.  Like you, I never had a touchscreen problem.  I don't think I am going to bother sending it back again.  All these shipping costs will add up to the $99 that I paid for that piece of junk.

  11. I see alot of posts throughout forums (besides this one) that state they wish the Note 4 was water resistant as well as for too much plastic. Do people actually take out their phone in the rain or at a pool that much? As for the plastic that Samsung is known for, doesn't a metal phone get dented if dropped (besides the glass breaking) as oppose to a plastic covered device?

Maybe i haven't researched this fully or am missing something so can someone try to convince me why it is so important for a phone to be

    1-water resistance and

    2-have a metal body.

  12. My N3 has started to have some really laggy GPS. When navigation is on, it regularly will lag behind and seemingly lose signal, although it doesn't show that it's dropping GPS. then all of a sudden it will catch up and call out the last 2 turns it missed.

Also, it seems that the latest update to Sprint Connections Optimizer has started using a ton of battery life.

Anyone else see these 2 problems lately?

GPS performance on the Note 3 after the KK update just isn't the same.  The Note 3 used to have an awesome GPS.  They really degraded it with Kit Kat.

  13. When did that take place?  My father's GS3 has been rooted and he activated it just fine.  I know I can activate my G2 when it's been rooted.  Why only the Samsung Epic Touch???!  I'm about to open the G2 box and just deal with the GPS until I upgrade so I wont be stuck with this Optimus S. lmao

Sorry, I was only kidding.  I really don't know why you can't activate.  Did you contact Sprint about the situation?  Possibly one of the CSR's could help you out.  It's worth a try!

  14. So, the Optimus S is too slow for my taste so I borrowed my brother's GS2 (Epic Touch 4G) he wasn't using and now Sprint's not activating it because it's been rooted before...??? I'm stock now but I've never heard Sprint decline to activate a device for me because of root.

    The new "Regime"!!!
