  1. There are review videos where people have put the S5 through a clothes washer and it was perfectly fine. So, yes, I trust it.

I actually just saw that one. Pretty awesome. I hope water proofing becomes a norm.

  2. So how confident are you guys in the GS5's water resistance? I went to Aquatica in Orlando last weekend and was pretty surprised on how many people were taking selfies as they went down the larger water rides.  I took the water resistance as peace of mind if it rains, but I don't know if I could ever submerge a ~$700 phone.

  3. That's why I had it in quotes. You can also manually change APN settings and make it work, I just tested it between my nexus and g2. For whatever reason it needs to be off WiFi though.

Well that's promising at least. I assumed the APN settings within Hangouts and not the engineering screen? Or did you have to do both?

  4. "MMS" will work if you use hangouts messaging rather than SMS. I think I figured out what was causing all the wake locks. I flashed Android L and was still having the problem. I disabled Google now and it went away.

That's not MMS. Sending pictures over a Hangouts message wouldn't be an issue if everyone used it.

  5. Does Verizon launch xlte all at once or kind of like sprint and just leave the tower on before the city launches?

I've been observing their XLTE rollout while I develop in Orlando and let me tell you... if you were a techie Verizon customer you would be extremely disappointed.  They are pretty much doing island coverage, even in their launched cities like Orlando.  You can find it in some highly populated and trafficked areas, but that's it.  Unless you are in a popular shopping center or a theme park you would be hard-pressed to find it around here.

They are really making the Sprint rollout look golden all around.

Edit: I know that really didn't answer your question, but it kind of rules out the all at once option.

  6. I said share the network. I did not say merge. What do you have against that? I don't want a race to the bottom. Where the heck is Sprint going to find the money to pay back the loans they took against NV? Not by offering $100/month family plans. BTW, T-Mobile did not make money last quarter. Not only did they drew down on the cash abut the only way they made money is by counting the $731M from Verizon.

They will be in a great place to generate revenue from international roaming within the Sprint network once VoLTE is up and running.

  7. Sprint definitely needs a new CEO to kickstart this Network Vision plan.  Dan Hesse was ok in coming up with the idea of Network Vision but the execution has been frankly poor the last 1.5 years.  Honestly they need a CEO like Legere who is not afraid to go toe to toe with the big 2 and now with Tmobile.

The execution seems pretty well off from where I'm sitting.  It was never going to be an instant fix. They have done a lot in a pretty short amount of time.

  8. I use eBay a lot.  The only thing I'd really recommend if you go the eBay route is to be sure you are very strict to doing everything over eBay.  Some scammers are very crafty... they will ask you over the official eBay channels to email them more photos of the device--- they do this just to get your email address.  Once they have that they'll will place the winning bid or buy it now price for your item and you will get an email from eBay@info.com (or something similar) telling you that the buyer has paid for the item and you should now ship it.

This happened to me once and I gave them hell.  When all was said and done I told the user I was reporting them to eBay (not that they did anything... they actually wanted me to leave them good feedback) and got a beautifully worded email back from the fake eBay domain about how the buyer's cash was being held by eBay while they were waiting on me to ship the item and that if I did not comply I would be subjected to a stiff monetary penalty.  It was kind of laughable when I experienced it, but I know they were creative enough that they probably probably get a lot of people who aren't careful caught up in that scam.

Stick to doing everything through eBay's communications and always wait for the PayPal to confirm payment and you should almost always be good.

    LG G3

I was having issues with Bluetooth connectivity between my G3 and my 2014 Lexus IS350 F-Sport.

Basically, whenever the two connected, the stock LG Music app would run (which has no music loaded on the phone locally). This meant that I had to go into my phone and shut down the app and load Google Play Music to get music to play. So I tried disabling the LG Music app....... Big mistake. The car and phone would disconnect and reconnect in a closed loop, indefinitely. I re-enabled LG Music and everything worked perfectly again (well, almost perfectly).

All I really want the phone to do is resume playing music in the Google Play Music app and not automatically restart the LG Music app each time I get in the car. Any idea if this is possible? I looked through the LG Music app settings and there is nothing to prevent this from happening. I wish there was a way to make the Google Play Music app my default music player so it is always used in default.

EDIT: I did a little research and it looks like the only way to decide which music player plays by default when connected to Bluetooth device is an app called Bluetooth Connect and Play from the Google Play Store. I'll let everyone know if it works or not tomorrow.

  9. It just occurred to me that I rolled out a feature specifically designed to help GS5 users and I don't know if I told anyone that uses a GS5!  Since the GS5 appears to have an issue reporting the PLMN ID via the traditional API's I created a new custom band feature in LTE Discovery that would allow users to create a rule that would allow the app to identify B41 sites by using the first three digits of the GCI and TAC.

There's more info on this post if you're interested.

  10. Must have just been a coincidence.. it only worked for a brief time, then went back to misbehaving. Is it possible to flash an alternative dialer? Having a phone that won't answer calls isn't very useful..

    -Mike

    Maybe clear the dialer cache?

  11. So I read in the New York City forum that the LTE Discovery with the Galaxy S5 has problems reporting B41. Over there someone said the quick and dirty way to figure out the band is if the CGI starts with 02 it's B41. Anyone know what it is for our area?

Haven't been in Tampa for awhile so I can't help you with what the first three digits of the GCI are for B41, but if you can can get those three digits and the TAC you can create a custom band rule in the menu of LTE Discovery's signal tab so it will always recognize that as B41.

  12. What I meant is that the Nexus 5 is the only phone that Sprint carries that is unlocked and can access LTE Bands 1,2,4,5,17,19,25,26,41 making it usable on T-Mobile and AT&T LTE networks by switching Sim cards.

    It's a versatile beast.

  13. Has anyone experienced the bug where they cannot answer/decline incoming calls on their N5, and the phone just continues ringing forever, even after the caller is kicked to voicemail? Started about 3 days ago for me, and it is driving me nuts. The only way to get off the incoming call screen is to reboot. It has been happening with increasing frequency to the point where it now happens on every incoming call.

I've read elsewhere about others having similar problems, but haven't seen any clear resolutions. I've had my N5 since shortly after launch and never had this problem. Wiped cache/dalvik and it didn't help. Going to factory reset tonight unless someone has any other suggestions.

    Thanks,

    -Mike

Are you using a custom kernel by any chance? If so, I'd revert to stock and see if that helps.  I've seen some very weird issues caused by kernel bugs.

  14. Why is it that people can't wait to buy a new device to pick up the new band on T-Mobile and than they bitch about how you have to buy a new device to take advantage of sprints bands

People are just going to hate one way or the other for no good reason. I wouldn't give it much thought.

  15. I'm here at the St Vincent's family practice center on the Riverside. This place used to be a Sprint dead zone roaming every time I came here. Now I get signal thanks to 1x 800 and band 41.

Clear's B41 is awesome since a lot of their panels aren't housed on towers with Sprint panels. Really helps fill in the hard to reach spots between Sprint towers.

  16. New version of LTE Discovery rolling out (v3.7.10)

The prime feature is the ability to create Custom Bands.  For all of you GS4 or GS5 users whose devices seem to unreliably report the PLMN ID used to identify B41, you can program the app to detect those sites as B41 using the area code and TAC instead.  If you guys have already gathered data which is bad because of these device errors, the app will go back and recalculate the band for any logs that fit the conditions.

I highly recommend being as specific as possible when programming a new band.  Try to use at least two fields (highly recommend one being the area code or TAC/or both) and be absolutely sure any field you do not want considered is left blank.  Any bands that are computed from user defined values will be marked by an asterisk in the logs.

Also, I am going to be setting up a remote database fed by a community spreadsheet so we can get a list of band rules available to any S4GRU sponsor who may need them.  Hopefully this will help considerably with identification of Sprint B41 8t8r sites.  If we could also get enough users who are present in Clear B41 markets to volunteer the area code and TAC info then we can alleviate B41 identification issue for all GS4/GS5 users.  I am going to be creating an easy way for devices to pull and import these rules of trusted members from the spread/database.  I don't know if the community would get behind this, but I'm hopeful users would like and enjoy it.

If anyone would like to help manage the spreadsheet and submissions from users I would greatly appreciate it.  I will not be able to do it myself in addition to the upkeeping of the app at the moment, so it would be great to have a few volunteers to help moderate the process.  This way we can ensure the gathered data is accurately handled and has a degree of verification.  Otherwise, I am likely just going to have an open spreadsheet that anyone could add to.

  17. Don't sleep on Motorola.....the Moto X is pretty spectacular, and the Moto 360 looks awesome!

5.9 inch screen is a bit much tho..

Just haven't been too impressed with Motorola recently. I'm open to changing my mind of course but I'd rather see an HTC Nexus 6.
